Chapter 5 - Discovery of the Marriage Certificate

Jiang Lingxi heard the sound of the door opening and the commotion from the corridor following closely behind. She was disturbed from her half-asleep state, opening her eyes to see a tall figure swiftly passing by within her line of sight.

Although all she caught was a glimpse of a dark grey suit, she couldn't help but subconsciously murmur, "Shen Qing!"

However, her call was almost a whisper, and the figure didn't pause but quickly disappeared from her view.

Jiang Lingxi couldn't help but smile wryly at herself; she must have been out of her mind!

She should just go back to sleep. Dreams can be so unpredictable.

Outside the hospital room, Tong Yue and Lu Zhenzhen watched respectfully as Mr. Shen, accompanied by his two assistants, left. They kept their eyes fixed on him until he turned a corner in the hallway and vanished from sight, then exchanged glances before entering the hospital room together.

Lu Zhenzhen immediately looked at the bed, surprised to find Jiang Lingxi still asleep. She widened her eyes as if discovering something incredible, whispering in disbelief, "Why is Xiaoxi still sleeping?"

Tong Yue was also somewhat surprised but maintained her composure better than her young assistant.

"Of course, Mr. Shen didn't want to disturb her rest."

"But Mr. Shen spent so much time in the room earlier. Did he just watch Xiaoxi sleep?"

Tong Yue was caught off guard by the question. "It's none of our business what they do as a couple. The IV drip is almost finished; go call the nurse to remove it."

When Lu Zhenzhen returned with the nurse, she leaned over to Tong Yue and whispered, "Tong Jie, should we tell Xiaoxi when she wakes up that Mr. Shen came to see her?"

Tong Yue thought about it seriously and decided to stay out of it. "Their marital matters are none of our concern."

She didn't want to offend Jiang Lingxi unintentionally.

As for offending Mr. Shen... she couldn't even consider it!

"By the way, Mr. Shen and Xiaoxi seem quite compatible. He's striking on his own, but when they're together... wow!"

Tong Yue released Lu Zhenzhen's mouth, her expression unusually serious. "If Xiaoxi doesn't mention her husband, you shouldn't bring it up either!"

She didn't have much information about Mr. Shen, but she was certain that their marriage was fishy!

Curiosity beyond their capacity could lead to disaster!

Lu Zhenzhen, feeling intimidated, shook her head repeatedly and made a zipper motion over her mouth to promise she wouldn't say anything.

When Jiang Lingxi woke up from her deep sleep, she had no idea that anyone had visited her.

After undergoing some unexpected examinations with assistance, she finally received the doctor's approval to be discharged from the hospital.

It was already evening by the time she returned to her residence.

Jiang Lingxi was instructed to sit on a reclining chair by the French windows, watching the sunset from the sixteenth floor. Lu Zhenzhen buzzed around like a busy bee behind her.

Jiang Lingxi didn't insist on doing things herself; lying in bed for two days without eating or drinking, with scratches healing on her arms and legs, would have been more trouble.

The sunset from the sixteenth floor was beautiful, but the apartment was smaller than she had imagined.

She had intended to exercise at home, but she couldn't even run, let alone walk properly.

"Xiaoxi, it's almost six o'clock. What would you like for dinner?"

Jiang Lingxi turned around. "Can you cook?"

Lu Zhenzhen went to the kitchen and opened the fridge, checking the fresh ingredients inside as she replied, "I know some home-cooked dishes. There are plenty of ingredients in the fridge. The doctor advised you to eat nutritious food for wound recovery. How about I make pork rib soup and a few stir-fried dishes, served with rice?"

"Sounds good. Go ahead and prepare."

She had experienced luxury and hardship, even dining on delicacies. She was accustomed to home-cooked meals.

"Then Xiaoxi, you just wait for my culinary skills to shine."

As the last rays of sunset disappeared from view, the lights in the balcony and the living room behind it automatically brightened as the daylight faded. Jiang Lingxi squinted slightly, looking up at the enormous crystal chandelier hanging in the center of the living room.

From waking up in the hospital earlier, to the car ride back home, witnessing the bustling cityscape outside the car window with towering skyscrapers, and finally seeing this massive crystal chandelier...

It felt like she had spent the entire day in silent awe.

A half-hour later, dinner was served.

This time, Jiang Lingxi didn't let Lu Zhenzhen assist her; instead, she walked on her own, stepping on the plush, soft carpet towards the dining table.

The dishes were indeed quite common, still steaming with a strong aroma, and the scent of rice was enticing.

"Not bad."

"Hehe, you flatter me. Actually, my parents run a small restaurant, so I picked up a thing or two from them since I was little." Normally, Lu Zhenzhen wouldn't mention such trivial family matters, knowing the person in front of her wouldn't be interested. But the atmosphere was right, so she couldn't resist saying a bit more.

After speaking, she realized she had rambled a bit too much and cautiously looked up, only to see Jiang Lingxi listening attentively, warming Lu Zhenzhen's heart.

"Xiaoxi, please have a seat and try this corn rib soup. Your pressure cooker works wonders."

"You should sit down too."

As they picked up their chopsticks and began eating, Lu Zhenzhen's pace of picking up food gradually slowed down, her gaze shifting discreetly towards Jiang Lingxi.

Jiang Lingxi's bowl was already half empty, indicating that she was eating more than usual.

But when Lu Zhenzhen compared her eating style to Jiang Lingxi's, even though they were eating the same food...

"Are you full?"

"Not yet, but Xiaoxi, you're eating much more than before. You used to take only a bite or two of the main course, or sometimes you wouldn't even touch it."

Lu Zhenzhen gestured with her fingers to indicate how little Jiang Lingxi used to eat.

Jiang Lingxi fell silent for a moment; eating was such a trivial matter that she hadn't bothered to delve into the original host's memories.

Eating so little, no wonder she was so thin!

Now that it was her, she had a different approach: eating well gave her energy!

After dinner, they placed all the dishes and utensils into the dishwasher.

With Lu Zhenzhen's assistance, Jiang Lingxi managed to wash herself without aggravating her wounds, changed into a robe, and then sat in the living room to watch TV. Hearing Lu Zhenzhen yawning beside her, she suggested returning to her room to rest.

After seeing Lu Zhenzhen enter the guest room, Jiang Lingxi pushed open the door to the master bedroom.

The bedroom was dimmer than the living room, which was perfect for sleeping.

After inspecting the entire room, Jiang Lingxi sat down at the bedside and absentmindedly turned on the bedside lamp.

As she withdrew her hand, she accidentally brushed against something, causing a flash of light from the bedside table, and the drawer beneath it slowly opened.

Jiang Lingxi's gaze followed the movement, and after a moment, she reached into the top compartment and pulled out a bright red booklet.

The gold letters on it were clearly visible under the bedside lamp. She looked at the largest three words on the cover and murmured softly, "Marriage Certificate."

Jiang Lingxi was genuinely stunned.

There was nothing in the memories left by the original host related to marriage. So why was there a booklet representing a married status here?

Now, the answer lay in her hands; all she had to do was open it!
