Chapter 20 - Just in time(2)

Boom!

Just as the Teleport Device was powering up, loud explosions could be heard from the mouth of the cave. Apparently, the traps they had set were going off, showing that the enemy was danger close.

"Swordsmith, Fortress, Ice Fist, come with me," Firelord Izzu's Illegitimate Son shouted as he ran to the cave's mouth. Behind him, the guys he had called were hot on his heels, alongside some NPCs.

Swish!

Even as he was running, Bor was busy shooting off Ice Arrows, freezing anything at the cave's mouth. It didn't do much damage, but it had the Freezing effect that could slow down the assailants.

Around him, an elementalist was also firing off dark spells.

I am Fortress, Firelord Izzu's Illegitimate Son, and two NPC Guardian Knights used Charge, followed by Shield Bash and other offensive attacks to stun and push back the dwarves that had already gotten in.

However, the dwarves that had come in were all dressed in exquisite looking armor and they all held huge shields. This protected them from the players' assault, thus beginning the tough battle.

Currently, due to the small entrance to the cave, the dwarves were forced to attack three or four at a time, making the dwarves unable to take advantage of their large numbers. With this, the players could barely hold on.

However, the pressure of such a huge and well armed army was not so easily dealt with. If they continued like this they would be overrun. Already, more powerful units were making their way to the cave, and their small shabby party could not hold them off.

"Hurry!" I am Fortress was growing anxious. A brilliant green light enveloped him as he received another Heal from Ice Fist, but he was barely hanging on. Looking back, Bor could see that while a large number of the civilians had already been teleported, there were still a quite a number lining up.

The teleport device worked as a portal. It would break space, opening a doorway to somewhere else, the place the Shaman had entered the coordinates to. This was the good news, as if they were being in batches or worse, one by one, they would never be able to rescue anyone.

Watching as the mothers and children ran through the Teleport device, entering one side and then simply disappearing, Bor was truly marveled, almost getting attacked due to being distracted.

While everyone else was attacking, as a backline supporter, he was looking at the trend of battle. Similarly, he was mentally counting off the people remaining in the cave. It was almost an unwritten rule, the NPCs would go through first, after all, the players could revive, the NPCs would be lost forever.

"Everyone, get ready move!" As soon as all the civilian villagers were gone, Ayram shouted as she unfolded an old looking parchment. With a single glance, one could tell that that was not a simple item. Just the spiritual energy gathering around it was enough to make one know that it was higher than a Tier 1 magic scroll.

"Moooove!" She shouted! The next moment, the entire cave mouth was engulfed in a wave of water, slamming many invaders against the cave wall and sending others out of the cave brutally, but this was just the start.

As the wave arched, the water suddenly froze, turning into an Ice block.

"Eat that!" Ayram shouted as she saw the gigantic Ice block that had been formed. While she felt at a loss for loosing a Tier 3 Magic Scroll, she still felt it was justified. This was the only thing she had that could halt the army momentarily.

"Stop being distracted and MOVE!" She shouted again, awakening her comrades from their stupor. A Tier 3 magic scroll! Bor had never seen one being used. He even started re-evaluating Ayram. Just who was she to have come by such a treasure? With her reminder, he jumped and ran, making for the Teleport Device.

However, just as he was about go through, he stopped. Ayram's actions had truly shocked him. He could tell that the Tier 3 scroll was her trump card, so for her to go all out, he had no excuse.

Shocked at his action, Ayram stopped as well, as everyone else was running through the teleport device.

Boom!

From the sound of it, a very powerful being was whacking the Ice barrier that had been formed by the Tier 3 magic scroll. It did not sound as though the barrier would hold for much longer.

Looking at Ayram's querying look, Bor smiled at her and pulled out a Rubik's cube. He then rotated it's sides thrice, and then set it on the ground. Then looking at her, he shouted, "RUN!" as he himself was running to the Teleport Device.

Instantly, Ayram understood, and she couldn't help commend Bor. Since the Teleport Device did not differentiate friend or foe, there was nothing preventing the army from pursuing them across the device. Moreover, they did not have time to dismantle the device, so this could not be helped. The only solution was to destroy it.

Even without being told, she knew that that Rubik's cube was some high grade explosive device, and since it was an item belonging to a master forger, she did not doubt its capability.

What Ayram did not know was that this was one of Bor's trump cards. He had turned it thrice, setting the time to T-minus 3 seconds.

What came next was extremely brilliant, but there was no player to behold. A massive explosion went off, instantly decimating everyone and everything in the cave and its surrounding. Great Tier 5 High ranking NPCs were even killed off, others gravely injured.

As for the cave and everything in it, it was turned to smithereens. Even the cave was no more, leaving no evidence behind.

"Curse you! Immortal adventurers." Lord Argur let out a loud bellow, one enough to awaken the dead.

"Form a camp, lets garrison this area. Send an emissary to the surrounding kingdoms, let them know that I, Dwarf Lord Argur, am here.

Immortal adventurers was the term NPCs used to refer to players. They acknowledged the immortality of players, and this meant that there were some benefits and quests only available for players.

For instance, Ayram's quest could only be given to an Immortal Adventurer. In some cases, some NPCs even looked down on players, viewing them as gross and unnatural occurrences. However, this was just part of the virtual experience available for players.
