In any standard MMORPG game, parties that went to fight against monsters and dungeon diving consisted of three important parts, the tanks, the damage dealers, and the healers.
Tanks were those that would fight head on with monsters. They had high Defense and Endurance, making them last while fighting monsters. They also had to taunt and keep the monster focused on them. In Gamer terms, this was called holding the aggro of the monster.
These were the Shield warriors, Knights, Paladins, you name it. They had dazzling armor and mighty looking swords. They were almost always melee battlers, fighting up close and personal with the monsters.
Then there were damage dealers. They were not known for their defense. However, when it came to battling, their hits did the most terrifying damage to the monster. They were known for their high DPS (Damages Per Second) and APMs (Attacks Per Minute).
Here's where you'd find the swordsmen, the berserkers, the archers and rangers, the elementalists and mages. In gamer terms, they were considered Glass cannons, High attack and fierce offense, but very weak defense.
In a party, their work was to whittle the monster's HP while the tanks held the monster down. They could be ranged or melee battlers, as long as they got the job done.
Then there were the healers and back line support. Their work was to buff the fighters and heal them when their HPs fell too low. Here you had oracles, druids, clerics, priests, the lot.
Their attacks caused very little damage to the monster, so it was better to just concentrate on healing their allies.
All this was well and good in a fight against one monster, but now that they were going against three, the tanks were outnumbered by one, leading to Bor standing up. He was going to hold down one monster Elite captain.
While the group expected Bor to approach with his Bow, he set is aside and pulled out a Spear. Its fine patterns and beautiful ornaments told that it was a fine weapon. Even Lonely Snow was intrigued.
"What a beautiful spear, what level is it?" She asked. Like many RPGs, Morendat ranked it weapons and equipment according to Trash, Common, Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond.
A weapon or equipment increased in efficiency and firepower the higher leveled it was. Some weapons could evolve, but these were extremely rare and hard to obtain.
"Level 100 Gold Spear," Bor smiled and added, "I made it myself."
"Hey big bro, how about making me one, I am only a sliver away from level 100," she cooed, trying to befriend Bor.
"No problem, I have a spare I can give you, if you have the coin." Then the two started haggling, completely forgetting the three monsters.
"Guys," Ayram said, indicating the monsters on the other side of the boulder.
"Oh right, let's talk about that later," she said.
"Alright, let's go. Swordsmith, you ready?" Illegitimate son said.
Bor nodded, and the three rushed out at the monsters.
[-23,000Hp]
With one spear strike, Bor struck down more than 5% of the monster with the spear, despite their higher defense. Bor hadn't even used a skill, just a strike.
Comparatively, pitiful [-11,000Hp] and [-9,500Hp] appeared over the other two dwarves.
Following up, the enraged dwarf swung its massive Broadsword at Bor. However, in a strange twist, Bor jumped through the air, evading the strike completely. He also landed on the dwarf's blind side.
[Thunderstrike]
[-35,000 Hp]
Thunderstrike was one of the skills of the spear. With Bor's attributes and level, his strike elicited high damage to the target, effectively pulling its aggro.
[-12,000 Hp]
[-8,500 Hp]
Both Lonely Snow and Single Shot Dead, the ranger, attacked Bor's monster. This was the plan. To finish off one monster while the tanks held off the other two. Since Bor would get the support of the damage dealers, the tanks would have the healers focusing on them.
Ayram still shot a glance once in a while at Bor, to see if he needed any help. Surprisingly, even after attacking for several seconds, he still hadn't dropped a single point of HP. Comparatively, both tanks had lost about 20% or 30% of their HP.
Seeing this, even the others in the team were shocked. What crazy defense did he have? However, any discerning player watching would notice that this was not defense, but agility. Bor had managed to evade every single one of the dwarf's strikes, and while doing it, he would make the beast pay with a severe counter.
In under ten seconds, his monster had less than 50% of its HP remaining. Even Bor was impressed by how well he was doing.
What his party did not know was that this was Bor's first raid in Morendat since he started training. He didn't think that it was helping much, but even though his character had this much agility, there was still the part of pushing one's abilities to the maximum.
Since he had been training his body and mind, he realized that the monster's attack, which would have been scary, instead looked slow and uncoordinated. As he wanted it attack, he could easily evade it and burst through the holes in its defense.
Boom!
Bor got distracted, and just like that disaster struck. The monster's shield bashed against him, dealing [-32,750] and stunning him for 2 seconds.
Bor tried evading its next strike, but he was in a [Stunned] status, so he couldn't move.
Just as the attack, which looked terrifying, was about to hit, Bor felt his stunned status get lifted, making him evade the attack just in the nick of time.
Ayram had come to the rescue just in time. Clerics could clear debuffs and stunned status using the skill [Holy Blessings].
Bor instantly cartwheeled and struck using [Insta-strike], one of the hunter's strike. It could counter a monster's attack and return 30% of the damage.
[-45,000 Hp]
One strike instantly killed the dwarf. This was only 30%, Bor wondered what kind of damage it would have done had it landed on him.
One down, two more to go. He didn't notice the dumbfounded looks Lonely Snow and the Ranger were giving him.
