I asked her a bunch of questions, but she halfheartedly answered, so basically the interrogation was useless. Is she a top-secret agent from a guild? With the mask and clothes, she's obviously from an assassin guild.
Should I keep pestering her? We saved her, so she should have at least an ounce of gratitude.
Things didn't go well; her guard was up every time, even when we took her weapons away from her. If we fought inside the carriage, we might get kicked out.
So, staying silent is the best solution for now. As we passed the grasslands and small forest, we eventually arrived at a small town where there were guards at the entrance.
With credentials, the old man passed through the guards, and we finally entered the town. "Finally, I can eat some decent food," my stomach grumbled.
"Hahaha, after I finish delivering these items, I'll treat the three of you to some food from my favorite place," the old man was showing his gratitude.
"Seriously? Thanks, but can you drop me off here? I want to check this place out for a bit."
"Sure, just meet us later."
I went off the carriage, and when I was just about to go, someone pulled my clothes. I looked back and saw it was Gesine; she was still wearing her brown cloak.
"Take her with you," she pointed at Aveleen, "I'll help the old man, and you guard her."
"Alright then, have a safe trip. We'll meet you later." Aveleen and I went off and started to look at some of the things that people were selling. Some were only found here, so I decided to buy some for souvenirs.
I wonder if the demon region is alright with Valier in charge. Let's not waste my time thinking about them. Anyways, Aveleen, who was starting to open up, had a massive appetite.
I mean, she finished the food before I could even taste mine. Thank God she's not running away.
Speaking of God, why didn't I receive a single message for the entire day? This is getting kind of worrying. I know gods aren't always free since they have to tend to the world.
But even when I'm asleep or taking a bath, they would talk to me.
"Echidona... Leticia... Cassia...", those three were the closest to me since their mouths won't stop talking, but I appreciate them.
"Let's go that way, Aveleen. After this, we'll meet up with Gesine and the old man." She's been awfully quiet and obedient. Did I somehow gain her trust?
"So, what did you want to eat, Aveleen?" I turned around and saw nothing. She's gone. Oh, f-word, did I just get ditched?
I knew this would happen, but for it to happen this early. Where the hell did she go? I asked the locals if they saw a girl with red curly hair, but it was pointless. They were pointing in random directions. Did they even listen?
Time to use my special detecting skills, which I pray still work. I focused my mind and tried so hard, but nothing happened. Most of my skills came from the blessings of the Gods; the detection skill was given to me by the goddess of hunters.
But after being called the demon king, she stopped supporting me, even though she knows the truth.
I'm not angry at her, though hunters pray to her that I don't encounter them in the forest or any hunting grounds.
Anyways, I searched high and low for Aveleen, but she was nowhere to be found. Crap, I lost her. Gesine might be mad at me for this, so I pray to the gods that no harm will be put against me.
Eventually, after running around calling her name, which was embarrassing, I bumped into someone, someone beautiful. In fact, I thought she was Cassia for a moment.
Same white hair, but she has long and pointed ears—an elf! I knew elves were beautiful, but she was like a god. That may be blasphemy, but I'm saying the truth.
Not even the elven princess of the elf forest could compare. Damn it, again I'm overreacting.
"Ah, young lady, put those boxes here," a familiar voice came around.
"Oh, Cassius, where have you been? Are you hungry now?" It was the old man who drove the carriage.
"Old man, where's Gesine?"
"What? She's in front of you, ya know."
I looked at her again in disbelief. I was traveling with a gorgeous, overpowered beauty this entire time!
