The fight is about to start outside the burning village. There was nothing to worry about now since the survivors must have escaped already while we were killing those demons.
Gesine was sharpening her spear, which was already sharp enough. She also tied her hair in a ponytail, which I'll be honest, looks really good on her.
On the other hand, we have the red demons. The dude was just flexing his muscles everywhere. It seems that he's underestimating Gesine.
But that's good as well since underestimating your opponent means your guard is down, so this might be a win for Gesine.
[But the red demons have stronger physical strength, right?]
Oh god, that sudden screen popping up all of a sudden surprised me. But "who is this?"
[Echidona]
"Oh, I see. Wait, weren't you mad at me?" she went silent after that incident.
[I'm not, for now.]
"What does that even mean, 'what for now'?" Gesine and the red demons looked at me with weird faces. From their perspective, I was talking to the air and all that.
It was embarrassing, but I had to go to a quiet spot so that I could talk to Echidona.
"I'll take a piss over there. I'll be back," this should be a good reason.
[You don't have to.]
Hm, what does she mean I don't have to? I'm doing this so that I can talk to her, so why doesn't she want to?
[The goddess, Echidona would like to share a connection with you. do you agree? Yes/No]
Wait, wait, this is madly suspicious. What kind of connection are we talking about here? This could be a scam contract to make me do her bidding. Oh well, let's do it anyways; it's just Echidona.
So I pressed yes, and the message disappeared and... Nothing happened; the sky was blue, my body wasn't crumbling, everyone was alive.
Then out of nowhere, a bird came to me and handed something that looked like a four-leaf clover. It was a sign for luck, so fortune is about to favor us.
But where is Echidona? The message just disappeared after I pressed yes.
[I'm still here.]
Oh, she disappeared for a while. I thought she was just gonna leave me and live on.
[I won't leave you, Esmond, not even in a decade or a century, even in a millennium.]
Well, that's some deep words. But wait, did she just hear what I was saying?
[Yes, I did]
How did that happen? Is it because of the connection thing we just did? If so, did I just break my own privacy?
[I respect your privacy, Esmond. That's why I can only read your mind when we are talking.]
Thanks, Echidona. Well, anyways, we need to continue the fight. The chapter's name is "Spear Duel," and people need to see this fight happen.
[Fr]
"Alright, folks, we have a battle of spears here, one of the rare weapons for anyone to choose."
Gesine stood up and had a commendable stance. I still remember the day she killed those lizard monsters.
[The chances of Gesine beating this demon are high, but the same goes for the red demon.]
What do you mean by that? I'm sure Gesine is fairly strong compared to other spear users, but then again, she is against a red demon.
Trained to perfection and built to be warriors, you can even call them the otherworldly Spartans. They were formidable foes but not against us heroes.
The demon took his spear from his minions. It was red and black, complete opposite from Gesine's weapon, which was silver and blue.
"You both agree the battle will end only in death, but it's your choice to give mercy to your opponent," I was the referee for this fight. Though I do honor the duel system, if Gesine is about to die, then I'll have to kill these guys and save her.
But wait, shouldn't I just kill them now?
Gesine challenged the dude to a duel. I guess I should just watch and see how it goes.
"You may now begin," I stepped away from the two of them as I began to watch closely.
With the start of the battle, the demon sprung towards Gesine with a full thrust, and as Gesine had her intuition, she backed away and went to the side.
She aimed at the demon and let out a powerful thrust, but it was wasted as the demon had already changed his location; he was adapting quickly.
Both of them had speed, so they didn't even touch each other except with their spears, but a sudden fatal blow came amidst.
Half of the ear of the demon was taken with a single attack. This enraged the demon, of course, but it only made his attacks clumsy.
And with every attack Gesine landed, though they were small cuts, it was still bleeding. But I don't think Gesine is in a good position either.
She was panting and sweating all over.
[This is what I was talking about]
"I see now, no wonder it's a 50/50 fight." Even if the demon is being reckless with his attacks, his physical attributes and strength really protect him.
But I can't say the same for Gesine; her stamina was weaker than the demon. The only thing she's superior in is magic, which I hope she uses the same attack that she did a few days back.
