Chapter 6 - Lonely Path (2)

"I'm hungry...", it's been a few hours since I started walking. Now it's daytime. I do have a lot of stamina, but my stomach needs food.

The gods still didn't answer any of my calls. Are they seriously angry at me still, or is there a problem going on? But that doesn't matter now; the important thing is food.

This is a disgrace to a hero and a demon king, so I sat under a tree and rested for a few minutes until I heard galloping horses. It seems that they are heading this way.

I stood up and waved towards the incoming carriage. Then it stopped when it arrived to me. The driver was an old man who was transporting some items, and he agreed to let me ride.

I hopped into the back and sat there, but I wasn't alone. Surprisingly, there was a person covered in a brown cloak. I couldn't see his face.

Wait, isn't this the part where there was someone stronger than the protagonist, and they became friends? No, no, this isn't really a novel or a manga, hmm.

I'll start by introducing myself, "Hello, I'm Esm..." Wait, I need a new identity. Let's see here, what's the coolest name I can think of right now?

Ah, I got it, "Nice to meet you, I'm Cassius." Yep, I'm taking the other heroes' names.

"I'm Gesine," his voice, doesn't it sound a bit feminine? "Uhm, Gesine, are you perhaps a girl?"

She immediately covered her face even more. Oh crap, did I learn a hidden secret? I better change the topic.

I looked around the carriage that we were riding and noticed a spear that was wrapped in cloth.

"Are you a spear wielder?" Nice, this should make her feel more comfortable.

"I am." Well, that didn't extend our conversation. Maybe she's the shy type. Now I'm suddenly curious about her identity. Should I strip her here? No, I can't. I'm a hero and a demon king. Either way, I can't hurt an innocent maiden. Maybe, for I am a gentleman.

A few minutes passed, and there was nothing to do but sleep. Then the carriage came to a sudden stop. I bumped my head on some items, then asked the driver what happened.

"Stampede," his voice was shivering.

"Stampede where?" He pointed at the road in front of us, and I saw it: a cloud of dust coming towards us. As I looked closer, I saw a person riding a horse. She was coming towards us.

And the monsters that were following her were giant versions of monitor lizards; they ran so fast.

Oh hell nah, is that person trying to get everyone killed? The girl in the brown cloak stepped outside and went in front of us. She unveiled her weapon, revealing a silver spear and a crest that looked like a tree. It also had a blue gem on it.

With her two hands gripped on the spear, using her momentum, she released three thrusts in the air, yet nothing happened. That was until I looked at the stampeding lizards.

Almost all of them were gone; blood was covering the rest that survived. Did she do this? Well, if that's the case, I should clear out the others.

As a hero, my powers were considered godly, so I had to minimize it so that no one would be suspicious. I aimed my hand towards the monsters and shot a purple flame directly towards them.

No one knows about this magic since I haven't used this in any battle so far, but the way the girl looked at me was kinda suspicious.

Anyways the person that was riding the horse arrived at our location so we decided to check on him.

"Excuse me are you alright?", the old man checked her "gah!", he was surprised and fell.

"What happened? Is he dangerous?" I looked at him and saw a masked person; his entire head was covered, and he was using a dagger. He was unconscious, but he was still defending himself even though he was sleeping.

I cautiously took him away from his horse and brought him inside the carriage. Hm, should I revive him? What did they call it, ah, CPR! So I put my hands on his big soft bouncy chest and started... Wait? Soft? Bouncy?

I took off the person's mask, and it revealed a girl with red curly hair. Another girl? Why am I always surrounded by them?

So I called Gesine to take over, and she started to take care of her while we waited outside.

"Young man, I'd like to thank you and the other one for saving me and the items," the old man bowed slightly.

"Ah, think of it as payment for the ride."

The old man and I had a few chats until Gesine called for us, "She's awake." I went inside the carriage and saw her again; her red hair was shining, and her eyes were green like emeralds. Am I overreacting?

Anyways, I asked her what she was doing with those monsters, but she didn't reply.

"Could you at least tell us your name?"

"Aveleen," she finally spoke! Hmm, Aveleen, that's a familiar name, isn't it? Anyways, we have to interrogate her even further.
