Chapter 115 - Chapter 115 - Ester

Ester's POV

A week had passed ever since the victory of the Southern Plains Halestone Town. I had been seeing the little changes that come with the trend in the news in the form of newspapers, hearsay, and word of mouth. Russell had become more popular than ever. Many started to call him the Bus Driver Hero, much to my surprise. Now, I am in a tavern in Marewell Town. The time was noon, and I was having my midday meal when I heard some ranting coming from a table across the aisle on my right. The tavern was really noisy at this hour, as well as packed with customers and patrons. I looked at them, only to see that it was Elai party. Their presence made me a bit irritated. "What are these selfish bozos doing here?" my mind.

And then, one of them, Elai, began to rant out her jealousy and envy of Russell and his achievements as a free adventurer, including his contributions to the victory in Halestone Town. "Why it had to be him?" she ranted more in anger while holding her glass of beer. "Why does a stupid Renad like him have to be rewarded so much, even with a free estate? It's not fair! I am the hero of this country. And plus, why do most people call him the Bus Driver Hero? It's like replacing me now!" Elai and her younger brother Belius had managed to leave their home in Wallisville after their suspension period was over.

She then drank to drown out her frustration.

"Yeah, that guy thinks that he knows better than we do," Aeri, who managed to run away from her family home in Fernlay City.

"Also, sis, we didn't get to participate in that battle in Halestone Town, too," Belius added.

"That guy is really annoying!" Hans added as well.

"And plus," Elai said to them back, "that guy had a nice estate of his own as a reward for his noble and heroic deeds. Why it had to be him?"

In reality, however, Elai and Belius had two estates gifted by the Passato family for their past heroic deeds, but it seems that both of them were envious and wanted more.

These humans are really irritating when they ranted about how Russell is taking their place as heroes of this country. In my view, being a hero is not a title, but rather, it is an act of deeds as a hero, or rather, a true hero. Elai is not even a true hero at all!

My annoyance with them was too much, so I ate my meal fast, drank my drink fast, stood up, and paid for my meal, before hurriedly leaving the tavern. As I walked, I planned to talk to Russell after we arrived at his next stop so I would have some alone time with him.

My name is Ester, and I am not a human. I am one of the Elder Guardians who were tasked with keeping everything in this universe in order.
