Just because I don't have any friends now doesn't mean I didn't have any back when I was a girl. Felix was my brother's classmate and friend. He often come to our home so naturally I got to know him well. Although my brother hates when I join to play, Felix on the other hand would happily play with me.
He's like the brother i never had. Perhaps he may be the only one who doesn't hate me.
"What's wrong?" He asked as I quickly snapped out of my memory.
I just smiled and told him it's nothing. Looking closely he looks exhausted, why won't he, he's the one leading the commands on the northern border. The Northern border of the Veon Empire is the closest to the Uter Kingdom. The two sides have been on a siezed fire and waiting for the commands to engage in battle. With the Emperor being sick Augustus was managing everything with the help of my husband and day by day the bad news got worse.
Just recently a village outside of the northern border was attacked by the other side and there were refugees seeking help. Felix had to let them in but it meant more people to feed other than his soldiers. Many times he asked for more rations and budget but it kept posponding so I guess he came here directly.
"How've you been?" He asked.
"Good."
"Eat slowly you're gonna choke." There he goes again nagging me. It's not suprising since he was a teacher. That's right i learnt how to wield a sword from him. You could say I did it to impress Ceaser but that's a lie. I wanted to be strong.
So naturally he poured me a glass of water and patted my back when I almost got chocked. He considers me as his little sister and i the same. Our talk was calming i forgot how fun it was to talk with someone. He ruffled my hair to which I naturally got pissed off. My maids styled it why would you mess it up?
Ah here comes the whispers again.
"Look at that she's flirting with another man while her husband is here."
"Shameless!"
"Of course her husband doesn't love her so she whore herself out."
I have ears I can hear you all. Felix got mad but in the end I told him to let it go. I'm atleast thankful that someone is still with me.
A newcomer came and interrupted us when we were chatting. That newcomer was my husband, he looks so handsome. As if I was thin air he completely ignored me and talked to Felix.
"Captain how's the north side?" He asked.
"Not well your grace. More people are coming in and we're almost out of food for the winter. If they attacked then we won't be able to defend ourselves we need more rations and more soldiers to protect that many people."
My husband went deep in thoughts. Indeed it was a serious problem. The defence on the North side has weakened, the walls aren't as strong like before and with that many people, the food for the soldiers had to be shared with them.
"I'll talk to his highness." He finally answered. The Uter Kingdom has been going around attacking villagers around our borders, since they have no place to go naturally they turned to us. Then there's always the risk of letting in a spy. But that also meant that the other side is getting closer and closer. It wouldn't be long until we have an all out war.
