He carefully sat back up and took a glass of water from the table and drank it. I sat down opposite him and watched.
"What's the news?" He asked.
Still as cold and distant as ever, " Your Grace, it appears that the Alliance has finally made their way inside. An assassination attempt of the Emperor on the night of the full moon...."
My husband stopped and looked at me all serious. His glare is there again. Does he suspect me?
"And how did you get this information?" He demanded.
"I assure you Your Grace, I heard it from a friend who works in a bar. I trust this information as I trust him..."
"That doesn't mean anything. Duchess I cannot take this up until I hear it from that person directly." He's not asking.
Shoot! I wanted to keep Jared out of this. But it appears i cannot.
"That's not all Your Grace, there's a traitor among the nobles. Assumed to be one of the Viscount..."
He touched his forehead as I dump his information on him. He really has a lot of work to do now.
"Duchess, what you're doing right now is accusing the nobles of this land. Do you realise that?"
"Yes Your Grace. I do"
I never reacted much. I just kept a straight face hiding my fear.
"I cannot take your words Duchess. What you've given me is second hand information. I would like to meet this friend of yours. This is a matter of life and death of our Emperor i suggest you take me to him."
I guess he's really not gonna let me go.
" You Grace, I have conditions. I ask that you do not bare your suspicions on my friend. He is nothing but still a growing young man. I hope you listen to me this one time." I bowed as if begging him to not let anything happen to Jared.
His eyes pierced through my head. I would've died if looks could kill. "Very well bring him here tomorrow" he said. Atleast he doesn't look angry.
The next morning I sent for Jared. He came with nervousness as I waited for him at the gate. "My lady I'm not in trouble am i?" He asked.
"Don't be such a scary cat Jared." This little brother of mine was trembling with fear just a moment ago but he quickly got annoyed when I touched his head. How cute!
I forgot Jared was a commoner. He has never seen such a huge house before so it was a bit calming to see his exciting face as his head turned everywhere to look. He's still a kid I guess.
Finally we stood before my husband's office, we both were getting nervous and sweating with fear. "My Lady why are you sweating with me?"
"Hush Jared let me prepare."
I shouldn't be afraid not when this little brother of mine is here.
Heinz finally opened the door and took us in. What awaits us wasn't just my husband instead the Crown Prince was also by his side.
"My lady you didn't tell me I'll be meeting with His Royal Highness." Jared whispered with a trembling voice as I too answered him back with the same trembling tone, " Neither did I."
"Vivian..." I heard my name from my house husband's mouth. Just a moment ago he seemed calm but now his eyes were cold as ice. What did I do wrong?
The Crown Prince greeted us, " Hello i heard you have some news."
"Glory to the sun of our Empire." Both me and Jared bowed before him. We were feeling nervous and knew this wasn't going to be some small talk.
"Well then shall we discuss what you know Duchess." He said.
My husband and I took a seat beside his highness and Jared sat opposite to us. He was just a kid here. Poor him i thought.
"Can you tell us what you've heard young man?" His highness asked in a calm voice.
Jared looked at me all nervous as I nodded my head and he started his story.
