Chapter 23 - Small timeskip

The next day, Saturday, it was finally time to meet with the Professors to explain his 'new' spell. Honestly, he had no idea how his family talent worked, and it was something that came naturally, therefore what he did had to be something new, or at least a better version of his family talent.

At 10 o'clock, Professor Krieg came to pick him up and led him to a part of the school he hadn't been to before. Everything looked more modern, and through a few open doors he saw a few rooms that looked like futuristic laboratories.

The room they went into, looked like a mix of a laboratory, a meeting room, and a classroom and probably it was exactly that. At the table in the middle sat a few men and women, most in either a laboratory kilt or in standard wizarding robes. As they entered, they began to look at Sebastian expectantly.

After a few introductions, it was finally time for Sebastian to explain. For that, he stood up and walked to a blackboard and picked up a piece of chalk.

"Do you know about light?", Sebastian began, to which the men and women looked at him like he was dumb.

Sebastian blushed and asked again, "I mean, do you know the physical explanation of light?"

Now, most of them looked confused, while one just asked, "What do you mean? They are literally rays of light? What is there to know about them?"

"Let me start somewhere different. What is the highest level of physics known to you?", Sebastian asked, a bit disappointed in the magical world.

"That would be Electromagnetism. We try to make muggle technology work. And then, there is a little bit of nuclear physics, after what happened at Chernobyl. But we know a lot more about chemistry. Nearly all newer spells are based on chemistry and some kind of reactions, but higher physics is not really useful in magic. The most we need is to understand normal properties and spells like Lumos are instinctive.", one of the female professors answered.

"Okay, if you think so. Maybe that is why we still lack behind in Germany. Another question, how do you change the light of Lumos?", Sebastian asked, hoping for at least some kind of useful answer.

"The first possibility is to cast a modified spell. You just have to change the intend of the base spell to produce one colour only. The second possibility is using more magic and focusing on what you want.", a man answered.

"So you never wondered, why that is?", Sebastian asked, somewhat angry and disappointed, to which all of them nodded.

"Phew. Let me begin. I know a bit about that kind of physics out of interest. White light consists of every colour. The colours are violet, blue, green, yellow, red. Therefore, you do not change the light, but simply only produce one kind of light. Understood?", Sebastian asked.

The professors nodded, some looked fascinated. Seriously?

"Now to the explanation of light. Muggles have found that light is also a wave and also learned about its speed.", Sebastian continued.

"Wait, light isn't instantaneous?", a professor interrupted.

"No, it is not. Now,", Sebastian began writing down a few formulas, "speed equals frequency times wavelength (c= lambda * f). And, the muggles also found out that light consists of small objects, too. If you want to understand that, you will have to research on your own, it would be too complicated to explain right now.", Sebastian said and imagined the look on their faces if they learned about quantum physics.

"The energy of light is E = h (a constant) * wavelength. And tada, the wavelength decides which colour the light has. Then, there is light which is not visible to us, like infrared- or UV-light. So if I can shorten or lengthen the wavelength, I can make light invisible.", Sebatian continued.

After that he went through an hour of explaining and dumb questions, until every single person present had bought his idea. Hell, even the non-research said they wanted to start on physics now.

"Thank you, Sebastian. We do not know, how to thank you. If it really works, this will lead us to a whole new field of research and spells. We never really thought about creating spells, based on advanced physics, but if it works…", the professor nearly went crazy.

"We also talked about the family talent with Lord Roth. From his experience, hiding the light includes sending magic into the spell. But you family talent works kind of instinctively, therefore he never really thought about it. He also gave me a book for you. He said that there hasn't been a Roth able to fully hide his spells in hundreds of years, so maybe you will be able to unlock it. Also, do not forget about your reward. You will be told if it is not enough to get something, but if your idea works…", the professor began laughing weirdly and ran away.

After lunch, Sebastian walked to the room, whose number he got on the card, Professor Krieg gave him. Supposedly, this was the room, where he would meet his new group leader and his group.

To say he was surprised was an understatement. Inside of the room were Alexander, Nadine, and Professor Krieg.

"Hello Sebastian. I think I forgot to tell you, that another bonus for your new ability is me being your group leader.", Professor Krieg said with a humorous tone.

"Now, let us start. I will help each of you individually."

- Second of February - Half a year later –

Sebastians strength had progressed a lot, but he still couldn't figure out the small booklet give to him by Lord Roth.

Still, if he was able to learn charms really fast before, his combat learning ability exploded after they learned how to go on about learning spells the best, in the Magical theory and research class. If they could grasp the principles first, or knew similar spells, it would be way easier. Therefore, Sebastian's knowledge and newfound dedication to learning about the way magic works istead of just casting, really helped.

Sebastian also learned that the G.W.I. was less of a strength indicator than he had thought.

The problem was, the G.W.I. required one to learn a specific spellset in rank I to V, but most schools focused on different spells, or made students focus on their own spellset from the very beginning. Therefore, the G.W.I. only became correct when you reached the level of Hit Wizard, as they began learning their own combat style and it was more about destructibility, than the spellset. This could also mean, that someone hadn't even reached Battle Mage, but was about as strong as an Elite Hit Wizard, even if that had never really happened. Naturally, you would be very restricted if you did not even have the requirements of a Battle Wizard as a base of your magical abilities.

The definition was: 'The rank of Battle Mage gives a wizard the optimal starting position to become stronger.' That was all.

And by now, Sebastian knew nearly all spells required for level three and even started to learn a few of them chantless.

Safe to say, he could nearly pass the third year in Battle Arts and Fighting as of now. Surprisingly, there were about two students that nearly reached his level in that aspect.

There were even rumours going around, that the teachers thought, that the wave of higher talent had finally reached Germany, and maybe it was true.

In the last few months, he had learned about nearly twenty potions, and was able to raise a wall in front of him with transfiguration chantlessly, though nearly everyone could do that by now.

In War strategy, personal strength, and warding, they had just began learning runes, and Sebastian was fairly talented in understanding them. The ones belonging to combat nearly came to him instinctually.

But his biggest achievement so far, was that he was able to learn about chemistry, more specifically fire, with a professor and he was able to successfully cast 'Infernum Frenzy' and create a small fire vortex around himself. Unfortunately, learning to do this chantless took nearly all of his leftover time, and he still needed to concentrate on casting the spell carefully.

Something that happened in between was, that Harry Potter outed himself as a Battle Mage. Through the use of new kind of transfiguration charm, he was able to kill a seasoned Hit Wizard in a duel.

Dumbledore, who had just become the British minister of magic, announced that it was a new kind of spell, that would revolutionize the magical world. He probably did it to increase Britain's influence and to make themselves look more formidable, but his move of telling the spells' names backfired.

It was a transfiguration spell named: 'Magnefiore Amplificare', and it did what the name promised. Together with the new charm 'Electromagnus Resonantia' and conjured metal spikes, Potter obliterated the body by letting it be pierced by the metal spikes.

The transfiguration was able to amplify the targets magnetic field, which attracted the metal spikes. Meanwhile, the charm increased the speed of the metal spikes, making them unstoppable for the wizard, who had never seen something like this before.

Naturally, some freak in the USA gave an interview a few hours later, explaining the spells in detail.

Two weeks later, someone had published a reverse charm, which defends you from this attack, in an international newspaper. A few hours later, he was dead, but the world went crazy again and many German professors thanked Sebastian as they had started learning more physics way earlier than most others.

The age of advanced physics in spells had started.
