Chapter 29 - 3 vs 3

The days flew by, the students got stronger, and Sebastian made massive progress, mostly with his casting speed and chantless casting, due to new techniques developed and published by the German research department. Many other students progressed too, and some even delved into topics only covered in the next few years, overall, most students flourished.

-Four months later, Friday

Today was a special day. Not only, because it was a Friday, which meant fighting each other, but also because today was the first time, they were going to have group fights.

"Welcome students. As I told you last week, we are going to fight in groups today for the very first time. And I think it would be appropriate to do this by reviving an old enmity. Sebastian and Theo, please come to the front.", the professor started the class. After the first day of combat, Theo used every given chance to confront Sebastian, only to lose even more miserably with each time, until he stopped. Until now, Sebastian had only lost one duel, which was against Nadine, which happened because she put weak anaesthetics in his breakfast, making him sluggish for the rest of the day. The professor said that it still counted, as wars are not only fought on the battlefield.

Sebastian and Theo did as ordered and came to the front, standing stiff in front of the professor.

"Today, we are going to fight three against three and your groups will do a small presentation. For this, you man even chose the map.", the professor said, and Theo looked up, a glint in his eyes.

"I want the barn location.", he said as soon as the professor finished talking. Sebastian nodded, to show his confirmation at Theo's proposal and a bit later, both groups found themselves in front of the barn.

Theo's group consisted of three boys, Theo as the leader and defender, as well as second attacker, a skinny boy that excelled in illusionary warfare and traps, often making other knock themselves out on their own, by mirroring attacks. But his mean of strong single target attacks was very lacking, which Theo compensated for, though he was still better in defence. Then, there was a weird guy, Sebastian somewhat got along with.

He was large and liked bulking, which contrasted with his role. Make no mistake, the guy knew some pretty nasty charms and did not fret from mutilating enemies, as he showed during a field practice against muggles that broke out of a prison for lifelong prisoners. But the guy excelled in strategy, moving his partners with the mobilicorpus charm, and controlling the team. This skill was very refined and during a practice session, he showed real skill in controlling groups up to eight people, as of now. There were even rumours that he got private training to become a field and war commander in the future.

And then, there was Sebastian's own team. He, the attacker, using a mix of power and strategy. He preferred strategy, but in the last few months, it showed that he became stronger the fastest learning and perfecting strong combat charms, especially learning fire and new space charms. Apparation had been perfected long ago.

There was also Nadine. She had started to like wide area defence charms, even more so since the spell sequence she had mistakenly taken had been updated which new spells and knowledge, including decay magic, she could use skilfully. Sebastian even coached her on lightless casting, but until now, she was only able to do it with shields, including her combat zone.

Alexander became more proficient with potions and filled the supporting role perfectly. Not only did he attack with nasty curses when necessary, supporting Sebastians attacks, but also made sure to double check every defence. The thing he had gotten the best at, though, was hormonal and body supporting magic.

Sure, he was able to heal, increase their perseverance, and dulling their senses, but he was able to do the same in reverse with their enemies. He was also able to release hormone stimulators with the use of potions, and could even make an enemies body digest themselves, if given enough time and an advantageous position. Though, it was easy to defend against, which was why he had not really used it until now. It was also not fit to use in a one versus one fight.

"Ready yourselves!", the professor shouted, "You have ten seconds before you may begin, go!"

Both teams listened and ran away from each other, looking for the best spot to attack from and to defend. Sebastian's team was the strongest, fighting in the open, while Theo's team needed something to hide behind to make the most of their supporter's skills and their illusions.

"Fight!", they heard ten seconds later, and the first spell hurled towards Nadine, who just created a repelling shield, firing the spell back.

Sebastian saw something move in a corner of the barn and fired a spell, which went through the object and hit the wall. An illusion!

Three spells flew towards Sebastian, who didn't move. Nadine transfigured a wall, overlaying it with a repellent mirror which can repel weaker spells, and cast Protego Totalum on their location, to defend against any hidden spells.

Over the next few seconds, many small spells flew towards them, but nothing big. Sebastian, tired of their opponents antics, summoned a few fiery arrows and sent them to every corner of the barn. Understanding Sebastian tactic, Alexander used a weak wide area wind spell, supporting the fires Sebastian had started.

The flames flared and crept up the walls, but suddenly, the air became moisty and wet, hindering the flames. Now, the wind even helped fighting the flames.

"Bombarda Supporta Maxima.", Sebastian yelled, and began charging a new variation of the bombardment spell. Alexander help his wand on the tip of Sebastians staff, supporting and strengthening the spell with his own magic.

Seemingly panicked, two shield breakers, a Bombarda and water jet flew towards them.

"Sanctum Armatura", Nadine cast her defensive combat zone, shielding against most spells by changing their trajectory. The spell also prevented mental attacks from outside and hindered wards against apparation and Portkeys to be placed over them. The disadvantage was, that Nadine could not move while casting.

The spells splashed against the barrier or flew around them, preventing the interruption of Sebastians spell.

Sebastian raised it staff and pointed it at the top of the barns other end, firing the spell. Upon impact, a large hole was ripped into the barn, making it shake. Meanwhile, Alexander had sneakily cast a few reductor curses towards the barn's joists, making the barn fall and crash onto the ground.

A few magical fires later, they stood eyes to eyes with Theo's team, unharmed.

"*##*++", Theo cast, swirling hiss wand.

A waterfront appeared, taking the shape of a wave, which began moving towards Sebastian and his team at a high speed.

"Penetrate the middle!", Nadine yelled, signalling Sebastian and Alexander her need for support.

Sebastian immediately began chanting, "Incendium Barricade", and a fiery shield appeared in front of them, rushing towards the wave, while it started turning a shade of blued. The fire vaporized the water, creating a hole in the middle of the wave.

Through this hole, three spells came flying, but Alexander used a few transfigured rocks to block them midair, to prevent any damage to the shield.

While the wave reached them, Sebastian cast 'Fulguris Nexus', sending a lightning chain through the hole and towards their opponents. Theo stopped it through the use of shields while being supported by his teammates. Meanwhile, they tried to move out of the way.

Nadine dropped their defences, firing shield-breakers, stunners, and a few curses towards their enemies, while Alexander used this time to spread his hormone modifiers towards their enemies, to make them impulsive and rash.

Theo's team moved themselves out of the way by floating, but during this time, their supporter had to drop his shield to move the others, and Theo's attacker was deep fried by Sebastians lightning. With a pop, his body disappeared, which meant that he survived.

Theo retaliated by sending seven spells in a row, which they had to dodge, butt this also gave Sebastian enough time to complete casting a new spell.

'Lumina Octavarium'

Lumina Octavarium is a charm, into which a caster can infuse several other spells while casting. Only Sebastian is able to use it so far, though only on a basic level. In the spell, different spell waves interfere, creating a combined spell, which dissolves in preplanned intervals while flying towards a target. This means that while being fifteen meters away, the spell could split of a faster shield breaker, making the spell unpredictable.

To be honest, group fight are diffcult to write, even more so, considering their low power levels.
