Chapter 22 - 'Vulcanus Draconis'

"Wow, there are so many different spells!", Sebastian said in awe.

The 'small' library had several hundred books, and if they interpreted the titles correctly, each book was about one difficult spell, its application, and sub-spells. Now, this would be paradise for every new student, if there hadn't been the small note lying on the table in the middle, saying 'Jokes on you! Everyone may only choose one book per year =)

If you show promise or contribute anything you may exchange that for a few more books. Choose wisely. The book you pick up, will be the book you choose and only be readable by you.

~Your professor'

"What are you going to pick, Sebastian?", Alexander asked, overwhelmed by the possibilities and the restrictions.

"I don't know. I think I will take some notes and decide after picking a preference. What do you say, wanna compare and help each other?", Sebastian asked.

"Sure, what about you, Nadine?", Alexander asked, as he turned to the girl in front of a shelf, standing there like she was frozen.

"No, right? You didn't?", Alexander asked again, realizing her situation.

Because she was all excited, Nadine ran inside and picked up the first book about defence she saw, titled 'Defensive domain - Sanctus Praesidium spell sequence'. All that was left to hope was, that it matched her style.

Spoiler: No.

Sebastian and Alexander spent nearly one hour reading the titles of the books, taking notes and comparing. Alexander was to take the spell sequence 'Scutum Fortitudinis'. Its translation indicated a spell that supported bodily functions during the fight, while protecting the target. Other than that, Alexander wanted to focus on coordinating a fight, changing their formation, and helping the other two. A typical supporter.

Sebatian had a few spell sequences he found interesting, but at the end, he settled on 'Vulcanus Draconis'. Firstly, it just sounded badass, secondly, Sebastian thought that the spell implicated fire, which every wizard was able to summon or conjure, whatever the right term was.

When Sebastian opened the book, he was greeted by a short introduction.

' 'Vulcanus Draconis' is a peak of German development and spell research.

Its maximum power output is estimated to be W.W., making it a very high-quality spell.

Unluckily, the peak of the spell sequence is purely theoretical, and some kind of element is still missing, as no German wizard is able to fully cast it. The current hypothesis is, that this missing element would help a wizard progress to a power level above E.H.W., but all War Wizards stated, that this technique cannot be taught, explained, or transferred, which make it very hard to achieve.

'Vulcanus Draconis' is a new kind of mixed spell, which every nation began developing after the reactivation of ley lines, therefore this field of magic is heavily reliant on charms, as they currently give the most stable base to work on, and this field is very new. Most prior spells focused on either charms or transfiguration, though there were exceptions, like some wards, the water-making spell, which is a mix of charm and conjuration, which belongs to a category of transfiguration, or Anapneo, a mix of charms, healing and vanishing. This increases the difficulty of the spell creation and spellcasting exponentially, but also makes the spell a lot stronger.

[A/N: Tell me what you think about spell sequences and this spell sequence. Please realize that this spell sequence took a considerable amount of time to create, even with the help of AI to translate or optimize my different ideas and to shape them to what it has become.

Tell me if you have any viable ideas and describe them in detail (goals, examples of spells, a few requirements to help shape the idea further, names, …)]

1. Scintilla Ignis:

Type: Charm

Effect: Small, harmless spark of flame

Difficulty: Very simple

2. Fulgor Ignis:

Type: Charm

Effect: Brief but intense burst of flame

Difficulty: Simple

3. Ignis Projectilis:

Type: Transfiguration/Charm

Effect: Fiery projectile, creating a small explosion

Difficulty: Moderate

Requirements: Standard transfiguration skills and spellcasting. Ignis Projectilis involves transfiguring the burst of flame from Fulgor Ignis into a fiery projectile, requiring the caster to shape and direct the magical roughly into the wanted shape. It also demands strong focus to ensure accurate aim and the correct timing, as the spell cannot be controlled afterwards.

4. Infernum Frenzy:

Type: Charm/Conjuration

Effect: Wild, spiraling flames of intense heat and fire around the caster in a small area

Appearance: Small, swirling vortex

Difficulty: Moderate

Requirements: Advanced charm casting and control over chaotic magic. Infernum Frenzy amplifies the flames created by Ignis Projectilis, requiring the caster to maintain control over the spell of fire while directing it. It demands quick thinking and adaptability to use the spells unpredictability.

Note: Can be used as defensive measure

5. Incendium Barricade:

Type: Conjuration/Charm

Effect: A barrier of roaring flames, originating from the ground and extending outward, forming a protective wall with fire swirling around it

Difficulty: Moderate - High

Requirements: Advanced conjuration, precise wand control, knowledge of fire magic and adaptability. Battle mage.

6. Flamma Tempestas:

Type: Conjuration/Transfiguration

Effect: Flamma Tempestas summons a swirling vortex of fire and heat, spiraling outward as a front

[A/N: Basically a flame drill.]

Difficulty: High

Requirements: Very advanced conjuration and transfiguration. The spell needs precise control over its different elements to prevent the flames from spiraling out of control and causing collateral damage. Hit Wizard.

Note: Movable

7. Tempestas Inferno:

Type: Conjuration/Transfiguration

Effect: Summons a raging inferno engulfed in swirling tornado-like winds

[A/N: Basically Dumbledore in HP 6 on the lake with the inferi.]

Difficulty: Very High

Requirements: Very advanced conjuration and transfiguration and a lot of durability. Elite Hit Wizard.

8. Ignis Draconis :

Type: Conjuration/Transfiguration

Effect: Summons the fiery breath of a dragon imbued with destructive properties

Difficulty: Very High

Requirements: Very high understanding of summoning and transfiguration. The spell demands a basic understanding of dragons and their flames. Elite Hit Wizard.

9. Vulcanus Draconis:

Type: Conjuration/Transfiguration/Charm

Description: The ultimate culmination of the series, Vulcanus Draconis conjures forth the spectral form of a fiery dragon head or full dragon, infused with the combined power of all previous spells. The dragon unleashes torrents of searing flames and molten lava upon the caster's enemies, wreaking havoc, and destruction.

Size: ~ Fifteen meters high, can be manipulated through magical output. Width and length respectively to the summoned dragon species and portrayed age

Difficulty: Impossible

Requirements: Mastery of conjuration and transfiguration and a detailed understanding of dragons. Vulcanus Draconis represents a pinnacle of fire-based magic, summoning a majestic dragon of unparalleled power. It requires vast amounts of magical energy and mental capability to maintain precise control over the summoned creature, making it one of the most challenging spells to master in the German repertoire.

Special requirement: Level of W.W., or peak E.H.W.

Note: No person has cast the ninth spell as of yet. The spell is purely theoretical and experimental. May imbue special properties of dragon species, e.g. creating a fire ball, increased temperature, …

'

'Urghm. What the fuck?! It didn't know spells in Harry Potter could look like this? This is amazing. Even if I could only cast this Ignis Draconis, it could be very deadly. And depending on the situation, most of these other spells can be amazing, too. The only downside is, that most of these spells have a large area of effect, meaning that it would be hard to single out a target and that there could be large collateral damage.', Sebastian thought amazed.

'I just hope, that the are not too hard to learn. It would be great to cast most of them as soon as possible. And actually, fire sounds really nice.', Sebastian hoped and smiled like a pervert that saw the perfect victim.

Already imagining himself sitting on a fiery dragon, spewing lava at his enemies, Sebastian began reading more information about the spells and training zealously for the rest of the day.

At the end, he was able to cast decent Ignis Projectilis, though he was barely able to pull of the transformation, by focusing his intent of creating the flames itself in a form resembling an arrow.

Sebastian also learned, that when a transfiguration is imbued into a charm, it can be easier controlled through the charm itself. Even more so, when you had a detailed instruction on how to do it.

Which elemental talent do you want for him to have? I currently want to focus on fire.
