"You heard me clearly." He sounded like he did not want to repeat himself.
"Umm, ah, I..um.." I stuttered, wondering what was the best excuse that could get me out of this awkward situation.
"What's your name?" His husky voice made me even more nervous than I was, I wish I could just dig my grave now and die because while I thought myself to be Mason's wife to be, he had never introduced me to his father.
"I'm. Umm…I… am… Ava" I replied and tried to use my eyes to see my back without moving an inch.
"What's your last name?" He probably wants to know what family I'm from.
"I don't exactly have, I never knew my parents." I feel stupid telling him that, people tend to pity me when they find out I am an orphan and I hate the pity stares they gave me.
A whole minute passed and he didn't say anything, I wished he didn't show that pitiful expression like other people, but something seemed to be making him delay his next response.
I swallowed hard and tried to move but he wrapped his hands around me and whispered to me not to move, we were completely close to each other, his arm was around my torso, one more inch and he'd be palming my breasts, while my backside was moldier around his own Jean covered thighs.
My mind went haywire and goosebumps rose on my skin, my heart rate tripled. His hands were as strong as I'd imagined, his scent was like lemons crushed the midst of strawberries, and the mixture was addictive.
I got back to my senses when I saw an arrow narrowly cross my eyes, a little bit closer and it would have been my eyes but thanks to Damien he pulled me back.
I choked on my scream as I watched Damien take out the two guys who seemed like they were foreign to this pack.
"Those were weredragons trying to trace the pack location, I bet they want to find a way to attack us on close grounds." He explained.
I was still shocked in my place, so he didn't mean to hold me in a romantic way or come behind me or stay close to me a little longer, that was all in my head!
When he noticed them, he came to the huge tree to hide and then he met me, that's why he was whispering and wanted to know if I was with them or if I was his pack member, he pulled me back with his hands wrapped around my torso because he didn't want us to get busted by the enemies not because he wanted to be close to me, and he stayed quiet for a while without talking because he was planning his attack on them, not because he wanted…Oh gosh, I'm screwed in the head.
"Are you okay?"
He probably thinks I'm a clown now.
"Oh yeah, I was just startled." I cleared my throat and tried to act normal.
"Sorry for that, there was no time to warn you." His face was hard, but his words were soft, I didn't know which to believe, was he concerned or he just said it to make me feel better?
He probably doesn't even remember my name or the replies I gave him, it's kind of good. At least he'll forget about the stupid nervous way I replied, that was embarrassing.
"Ava right?" He raised one brow.
Oh shit. "Yes, alpha." I lowered my head in respect.
"I've heard a lot about you, the warriors say you're a smart and strong girl who should be a warrior, above the ordinary girls. But, seeing you in person makes it hard to believe what they had said." He was blunt, I won't blame him, my reaction was nothing close to how I usually behave, and now he thinks the good things they said about me were jokes.
"You're the alpha, how else do you want me to react in front of you." My sassy self had to step out, I think I'm in trouble.
I caught a glimpse of a smirk on his face before he quickly robbed it off, he was not offended after all. "Leave the woods, it's not safe by this hour for a girl to be here."
I wanted to ask why he said the word girl like I'm some kid who can't handle a fight, but I decided to keep my tongue at bay.
I bowed and left, I'll have to get going to Marina's house first as promised.
It took me like twenty minutes before I got there, I greeted her parents before she dragged me to her room to get the full story of my misery, sometimes I even wonder how she is my friend.
"It's not a long story, I just caught him shoving his tiny dick into Alessia and I walked to the market square, he displayed a rejection ceremony in a few minutes and I took a lot of insults before that. The end." I shrugged.
"How are you not crying right now?" She bounced closer to me on the bed to look into my eyes, like she felt if she looked harder she would see some errant tears.
"You didn't only get cheated on but you got rejected publicly."
"It's no big deal, it's not like I was in love with him." I said, flopping into her bed and occupying space like a whale. She looked into my eyes and said,
"Same thing, even if." She lay down beside me .
"It did hurt, I mean the things he said to me, but I can't be sad forever." I shrugged.
"Are you interested in someone else?" She raised her head and got into a sitting position to ask,
That question took me aback a bit, my mind went back to Alpha Damien and how butterflies filled my stomach when I think of him.
"Oh, someone's face is red." She got up and danced to my side of the bed, "Tell me who it is. Tell me! Tell me!"
"It's nobody." I can't have a crush on my alpha, it's disgusting because of how many years we have as an age gap. It would be like he robbed a cradle and I'd be foolish to harbor such feelings.
"You're keeping things from me?" She pretended like she was hurt.
"It's alpha Damien," I whispered, my heart rate had doubled, leaving me to watch her face as it crumpled.
"That's not new, he's like every girl's crush." She stated the obvious.
"Isn't that weird, he's way older than us by far." I asked her, my heart slowing down to hear her reply.
"Does that even matter?, it's not like we are dreaming of marrying him." She sat down, "although if it's about marriage and mating it's not so bad, after all, we don't age like the ordinary humans. He looks like he is in his late twenties, all fresh, sexy, and muscular."
"Keep your voice down, is it not like a sin to be saying all those things about the alpha?"
"He's not married nor mated, he's just dating Celine and I can bet you that they will soon break up." She chuckled, the sound travelled around the room and made her sound like an evil witch.
"Hm, he's always changing his girlfriends like his war gears." That's the only negative thing we knew about our alpha, in every other way, he's perfect.
"A man needs a new sheet for his bed after the war, girl." She supported that behavior, obviously she was crushing on him too.
"If you were one of those ladies he dated, I'm sure you wouldn't like it." I said, with a shake of my head.
"Do you know what it means to be one of the few that had tasted from the angel's bosom?" She smiled naughtily, "It's a privilege and his exes loved it even if it lasted a few months."
"I can imagine." It probably was like taking your blessing and leaving for the next person to take theirs, it sounded stupid tho but it's kind of true. It'll be the best thing that could ever happen to them, this thought left me wishing for just a night with him "I bet he's way too experienced to like virgins." I didn't know when that came out of my mouth but it did.
"That's your problem, not mine. I'm quite experienced." She bit her lower lips and blushed.
"Don't even tell me the stories." I rolled my eyes and stood up.
"When you're ready, just come to me, baby. I'll give you all the lessons." She followed me to the door.
"I'll pass." I shook my head and opened the door.
We walked downstairs and I waved her parents goodnight, but then they asked me to join them for dinner. I gladly accepted except for the fact that Marina kept teasing me about Alpha Damien. "Don't feel too bad that he's dating Celine, trust me he will soon break up, then I'll take her place and when I'm done I'll hook you two up." She laughed.
"You're insane." I sighed "By the way, haven't you heard the rumors saying that he might get married to her, I'll be happy for her though, she's a nice lady." I said honestly.
"Sadly, it's true. He plans to marry her." We have just been joking around, but the truth was this.
We heard a loud ear bursting-thunder clap and ran to her room window to check what it was.
"What the hell is that?" I asked with my mouth in an o shape from the surprise I was looking it.
"That's the witch hut," Marina replied with the same amusement in her eyes.
It was like a tornado in the sky and a storm running through it. The problem was that it was only at the place where the hut was while the rest of the pack's weather was normal.
"My guess is that our Alpha Damien is consulting the witch about the upcoming war." Marina said, whipping up her tight curls into an updo bun.
But he goes to her normally before he goes to war and none of this had ever happened.
"It's the moon goddess." I didn't know how I knew but I just knew it
