Even as Kenji's senses returned to him his body refused to move, the moment Togata had pulled them through the earth Kenji felt a switch flip in his mind. For a brief moment he had been completely untouchable, stuck in an infinite void where up became down and left became right. It was the same sensation that Kenji felt when Zurx had pulled him into the abyss after his first evolution.

But with Togata Kenji had remained in the physical plane, and though the moment had been fleeting Kenji could still recall the otherworldly forces that had enacted upon his body. Focusing on the lingering echoes Kenji cleared his mind as he tried to solidify his understanding, 'The abyss can not be touched.'

Holding out his hand that at some point became covered in his void armor Kenji leaned forward and stuck his arm into the ground. Going up to his elbow Kenji moved his arm around inside the earth, feeling little to no resistance. It was also the strangest thing Kenji had felt, the best way he could explain it was like wrapping a plastic bag around his arm and sticking it into a warm lake. Pulling his hand out after a second Kenji looked to find that the limb was absolutely fine with no sign of injury.

Feeling a shadow fall over him, Kenji looked over his shoulder to see Togata staring down at him with an unreadable expression on his face, "Did you just phase through the pavement."

"Um…I think so?" Kenji replied lamely, wondering if Togata was upset that he had copied his quirk.

"That's….awesome!" Togata exclaimed as he grabbed Kenji by the shoulder and effortlessly pulled him to his feet, "At first I thought you were having a stroke, but then I saw that look in your eyes and I knew you were in the zone! Did you just evolve?!"

Kenji nodded numbly, slightly overwhelmed by Togata's enthusiasm, "That's awesome man, I only managed to evolve after a month at the Academy. It seems like those changes this year are paying off."

"Actually this is Kenji's second evolution, though I'm glad to see this one wasn't as self harming." Aizawa commented as he walked over his signature stoic look even more menacing thanks to the patch covering one of his eyes.

"What?!" Tetsutetsu exclaimed as he overheard Aizawa and his head whipped around to stare at Kenji, "I know I didn't just hear Sensei say you evolved again!"

"Two evolutions back to back, I've never heard of that happening before," Togata mused with a glimmer in his eyes before he glanced at Kenji, "Do you have a special training regimen or something?"

"Hey! Kenji's not the only one that can evolve!" Tetsutetsu shouted as his skin rippled, gaining its metallic sheen and wavy pattern, "Just give me a capsule and I'll catch up with Kenji in no time."

"Do you know how costly those things are? I don't carry them on me." Aizawa muttered to himself, as he started to walk away, "You'll get one tomorrow. I don't get paid for overtime and the school day ended three hours ago."

"Wait, we still have school tomorrow?" Kenji asked in disbelief, "What about the nest full of Dread Beasts and the massive sinkhole?"

"A couple of Pros cleared out the nest and the sinkhole and damage to the school have been repaired," Aizawa responded as he continued to walk away, "Don't expect to get out of training that easily."

"But what about the secret-" Kenji was cut off as Aizawa glanced over his shoulder and silenced him with a glare, "Did you say something Kenji?"

Shaking his head Kenji audibly gulped, "I-It was nothing."

Aizawa grunted but otherwise stayed silent as he turned back around and left, "Man you guys sure are lucky you got Aizawa sensei as your instructor."

Kenji let out a stress filled sigh, "If you say so, but every time he stares at him I feel like I'm about to have a heart attack."

Togata grinned, "Well you don't become the first person to travel solo between two bastions by being laid back!"

Kenji blinked as he glanced from Togata to Aizawa's back, "You're kidding right?"

"Nope," Togata said as he crossed his arms, "I don't know the exact details but apparently at one point we came pretty close to being the Eight Bastions instead of nine. But Aizawa stepped up and took on what many considered a suicide mission."

Falling silent Kenji continued to stare at Aizawa as he walked away on his lonesome, "I knew he was a badass but that seems unbelievable even for him. How come I've never heard of that story before?"

"Because no one likes to talk about how close we came to losing one of the last safe havens left on this planet. While Aizawa might have played today off like it was no big deal, just know that what happened today will send ripples through even an aspect of this Bastion." Togata replied in the most serious tone Kenji had heard from the man.

Before he could leave Kenji was given a mandatory examination by the Academy's paramedic team before he was escorted back to the school with the rest of the rescued students. The drive back was mostly silent and peaceful as people answered calls from relieved parents and friends. Kenji tried to call Toga but the call went straight to voicemail. A bit disappointed Kenji went to put his phone away when he got a call from Uraraka of all people.

"Hello?"

"Kenji you're alive!"

Kenji blinked before smiling as Toga's voice came over the phone, "Toga why do you have Uraraka's phone?"

"Well because I'm at her house and my phone died," Toga answered as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, "Also Urarkaa stop being shy and say hello already."

"I-I wasn't being shy I just didn't want to interrupt," Uraraka said with an audible pout making Kenji laugh.

"Thanks for lending her your phone Uraraka, I hope Toga isn't being too much trouble," Kenji replied only for Toga to huff, "For your information Uraraka insisted that I come over even though I tried to turn her down."

"Well I didn't want you to be all by yourself!" Uraraka shouted, "You seemed really upset when you found out Kenji was missing!"

"Bah, I wasn't worried at all!"
