Unedited Chapter before rewrite
The Buddhist king walked forward and looked at the heroes. Suddenly, they all felt an incredible pressure appear, though it seemed to only affect their minds.
Yang Ce felt his vision go dark as he struggled to remain conscious. It was as if the worst headache imaginable had multiplied by ten and directly attacked him.
Before he realized it, a loud noise woke him up. He had fallen unconscious soon after the pressure hit him. He still felt his mind hurt, but it was more like a bad migraine.
"Spiritual force is always terrifying." The king spoke, though his voice only caused Yang Ce's head to throb.
"Meditate and absorb Mana to recover faster." The king reminded.
Yang Ce listened and slowly got into the meditative position. After 30 minutes, his mind felt better.
"Spiritual force is the power of the mind. It is the most common power used in the Buddhist kingdom." The king said.
"Remember when I said to train all aspects of power to a minimum level, spiritual force is one of the main reasons why. Someone a lot weaker than you in every aspect, but far superior in spiritual force will win in a fight. It is that simple." The king warned.
Yang Ce nodded. He could imagine why.
He looked around at the other heroes. Besides the ones that were more stoic and serious, such as the hero of the sword and the hero of the storm, the rest were in obvious pain.
"There are many methods to train the mind, but this is the most effective and natural. Buddhist king." The king of the sword kingdom said.
Yang Ce felt an ominous premonition as the world around him went black once again. He was unwilling to give up so easily this time, especially since he had experienced the attack before.
As he struggled, he failed to notice his heartbeat speeding up. He only noticed as his body began to heat up and his resistance to the power assaulting him began to increase.
The surroundings seemed to slightly brighten, before an even greater pressure attacked him, knocking him out immediately.
When all the heroes were unconscious, the Buddhist King spoke.
"Did you all see that as well?" He asked.
"Indeed. It seems that the hero of Yang does not disappoint." The king of the sword kingdom said.
"That must have been the heart of Yang mentioned in the writings. Interesting." The lightning king commented.
After a few minutes, the heroes were woken up again, and the process repeated. The next time, Yang Ce paid more attention to his heartbeat. Unfortunately, the spiritual force assaulting him had increased, and he could barely sense anything before going unconscious.
This process repeated until the 3 hours set aside for training the mind had passed.
The king of the sword kingdom allowed the heroes to rest and fully recover while meditating before starting the next part of training. Mana training.
"Luckily for you heroes, this section is not nearly as bad as the other two. Today we will simply begin training your control over Mana. You can train control alone, but do not mess around with Mana otherwise. Too many have died from foolish mistakes to reach the understanding we have today. Even the 13 heroes are not immune to sudden death or accidents." The king said solemnly.
"Now, all of you can sense Mana when meditating. While meditating, attempt to control it. As you control it, you should get better and better at it. After a while, you should be able to sense and control your Mana even without meditating. Every few days, I will give you a few tasks. In order to have completed the basic training of Mana control, you should be able to create a sphere of Mana without meditating in less than 2 seconds." The king said.
Mana training was nothing complicated. It was repetitive, and Yang Ce could feel his control clearly increasing. By the end of the training session, he was many times better at controlling Mana than before.
"I've kept you all for 9 hours today. Go out and rest or enjoy yourself, or even train more. It is up to you." The king said as he left the field with the other kings.
The heroes had all been woken up at 6 am, and it was now 3 pm.
'It's not much different from school.' Yang Ce thought to himself.
He considered wandering around the city, but eventually found himself in the library again. He found another useful looking book and read it until 6 pm.
He found reading the books relaxing and even considered it a form of rest. He ate dinner at 7 pm, and trained Mana control in his room until he fell asleep around 10 pm.
For the next 2 days, a similar cycle took place. On the 4th day of basic training, the King changed the training exercise at the Mana training period.
"Although basic Mana control is very useful, it is simply the foundation. Today, we will begin trying out the true use of Mana, the transformation of it into something greater." The king began.
"Mana can take the forms of Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Yin, Yang, Grass, Wood, Sound, Lightning, and countless other forms. Theoretically, there is no form that Mana cannot take. This is what humans have been taught. This is what is considered common knowledge to all races of the world. The most famous saying throughout all of history is simply, "Mana can do anything"." The king explained.
"You can train in multiple Mana types, like the hero of the 4 elements will do, or a single type of Mana, such as sound Mana for the hero of sound. The biggest obstacle that is faced is transforming Mana into a different form. How is this done." The king paused.
"Imagination."
"Although, of course, there are limits to this, the imagination is the most important aspect of transforming Mana. There is also another important factor. Talent, or affinity. And that's where this comes in." The king said as he pulled out a white ball.
"This is an affinity tester. Although unproven, it is said to be able to detect 52 forms of Mana. This is the most advanced one in the world." The king proudly announced.
