Unedited Chapter before rewrite
"Now, truthfully, we don't really need to use this for all of you heroes. Some of your affinities are rather obvious, but it is possible for a person to have more than one affinity. Also, those like the strength hero and the trick hero will be able to know what Mana types can help them." The king explained.
He held the orb and the first hero came up. Cecilia, the summoning hero, was one of the heroes whose affinities were not obvious.
After touching the orb, a white-green color appeared.
"Air affinity. Not bad." The king said.
"Yao Lin, the sword hero, metal affinity."
"Mark, the 4 elements hero, water, earth, fire, and air affinities."
"Wei Yin, the transformation hero, Darkness and Metal affinities."
"Yang Ce, Yang hero, Yang affinity."
"Cid, shadow hero, shadow and darkness affinities."
"Daisy, Life hero, life and wood affinities."
"Shu Wen, strength hero, earth affinity."
"Sai Ni, sound hero, sound and air affinities."
"Zeus Reynolds, storm hero, lightning, air, cloud, and water affinities. Cloud is quite the rare one."
"Kui, trick hero, darkness and poison affinities."
"Guang Lu, spiritual hero, buddhist and light affinities. The Buddhist king isn't going to shut up about this."
"Finally, Qing Hu, justice hero, metal and gravity affinity. Gravity is even rarer than cloud." The king said.
"All of you have affinities, as expected. Not all of you will truly go down the path of these affinities, or even Mana in general. Especially those with unique abilities, such as the transformation hero and the summoning hero." The king said.
"Remember, just because you don't have an affinity for something does not mean you cannot practice it. It will simply be a bit harder and the effect will be slightly less." The king explained.
Yang Ce nodded along with the other heroes. Anyone could have an affinity to a Mana type, but not everyone could be the 13 heroes. Simply having an affinity was only slightly important.
"While it is possible to simply use basic mana control to attack someone, it is nowhere close to the most effective way. That is where Mana techniques come into play. From now on, the 13 heroes have access to the 2nd floor of the library. Choose a couple of the basic Mana techniques there and practice them. Don't worry, we have at least one technique for each of your affinities." The king said before dispersing the heroes.
Yang Ce made his way to the library in the palace along with the other 13 heroes. They had all become aware of it at some point since they arrived in this world.
Yang Ce entered the 2nd floor of the library. Although it could be seen from the first floor, it was behind a pane of blurry glass that made seeing anything besides colors impossible.
Upon reaching the 2nd floor, Yang Ce understood the colors. Each one represented an affinity.
The Mana techniques in the section of the 4 basic elements numbered at least a hundred. In comparison, the others had fewer.
Yang Ce understood that this was in part due to higher level techniques being unavailable. As Yang Ce entered the Yang affinity section, he was stunned to see a single book.
The words on it read, "The small sun technique". Although Yang Ce was disappointed by the quantity of techniques, the name of the technique made it seem like the quality would be high.
'I guess this will do.' Yang Ce thought to himself as he picked the book up.
Upon opening the first page, he read an introduction.
"Created by the Yang Duke, 1550."
Yang Ce decided to look for books on the Yang Duke after looking at the technique. He continued reading.
"The small sun technique, while the most basic and beginner of Yang techniques, is without a doubt my greatest masterpiece. This is due to one feature of the technique. It has nearly limitless potential. As long as the user is strong enough and has enough comprehension of the technique and Mana control, the small sun technique will increase in power. I cannot say the upper limit or when it will no longer be useful, but it has never failed me, the Yang Duke."
That was the end of the introduction. The following pages contained the technique itself.
As Yang Ce looked at it, he could not tell if it was simple or complicated. There were a lot of instructions, and he knew that it would take him a while to learn the technique, especially since he had never learned one before.
Luckily, it seemed that the Mana training session in the future would mostly consist of them learning their Mana techniques.
Yang Ce first started by memorizing the words and diagrams of the technique. There was a good amount, and by the time he felt that he had memorized it all, it was midnight. This was under the condition that he was talented at memorizing things and had a lot of practice during highschool.
The other heroes were still in the library when he left. It was unknown whether their techniques were more complicated or their talent at memorization was lacking compared to Yang Ce's.
Yang Ce fell asleep a bit after midnight and woke up at 6 am regardless due to the bell. Luckily, he also had a lot of practice having 6 hours of sleep due to highschool, though that was mostly his fault.
When he saw the other heroes in the common room, he could not help but laugh a little. They were in much worse states than him. A few seemed as if they had not even slept at all.
When they arrived at the training ground, the king of the sword kingdom frowned.
"It seems that the people of your world do not understand the concept of a good night's rest. You all can only be considered as mortal's even now. You can stop sleeping when you reach my level. Don't think I'll go easy on you today." The king said.
That day felt much worse than the rest. Cid, the shadow hero, was one of the few who stayed up all night. He fell asleep mid workout multiple times, only to be awakened by a bucket of water.
Daisy, the hero of life, had also stayed up all night, but had learned a Mana technique that involved Life Mana.
Despite barely being able to use it, it managed to keep her awake during the body training session.
As usual, they all got some sleep during the 2nd part of training.
