A Step Eighteen Years Back
"Sir, the babies are here," a young Lady Nort announced, addressing a fidgety Dan.
"Oh, uh… okay, I'm coming," he said, turning and looking around in confusion. He walked into the room and saw Carmel sitting on the bed with an exhausted expression. The babies were brought to Carmel, and she took them, staring down at them with loving eyes.
"Aren't they pretty?" she asked Dan. He just looked at them in awe.
"They are," he replied without approaching.
"Do you want to hold them?" she asked, smiling at him.
"No," he replied quickly.
"Why?"
"Because they… they are girls, they are fragile," he said.
"I'm a girl, well, a lady," she said, staring at him in amusement.
"You are fragile," he argued.
"But you don't mind holding me," she teased, and his face reddened.
"W… Well, they are tiny, I might drop them," he continued arguing.
