Chapter 5 - Broken hearts

Whatever Ron had done to have my wife for himself, I would expose him. I would be the one having the last laugh.

I was gearing up to tell my parents about how the man had stolen my wife.

When I got home, I parked my car in the garage only to see a familiar car there.

That looked like Ron's car, however, I shook my head and refused to believe that it was his own.

But I got the shock of my life when I entered the house only to see Ron and Diana on the couch, sitting together, hand in hand.

"What?!"

This was not possible. What was going on? No. This was not true. No. No!

What was the meaning of this?

"What are you two doing?" I grimaced, walking to the couch they were sitting on. When I found their hands intertwined I felt disgusted by what I was looking at.

"I guess you got the memo late," said Ron with an eye roll. The urge to smack him was too much I could not hold myself back. I rushed to hit him when Diana came between us, stopping my extended hand midway with her powers before shoving me back roughly.

I flew into the wall, feeling something break within me as I felt blood droop from my nose and lips.

My body had slammed against the wall, the force of her magic leaving me powerless and vulnerable. I had made a grave mistake, one that had ignited the fury within her. Regret flooded my heart as i realized the consequences of my actions.

She stood before me, her eyes ablaze with a mixture of anger and disappointment.

The air crackled with raw energy, a testament to her formidable power. I struggled to my feet, my body aching from the impact, but I was t going down without a fight.

As she raised her hand, I attempted to defend myself but it was futile against her overwhelming abilities.

With a flick of her wrist, she sent me hurtling across the room, crashing into a table that shattered upon impact.

Pain seared through my body, my bones protesting against the force of the blow. Fear and regret coursed through my veins as I decided that fighting with her was a waste of time and decided to plead with her.

"Babe, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to anger you," I gasped, my voice filled with desperation. "Please, I beg you, spare me."

Her lips curled into a cold, disdainful smile. "Sorry? Your apologies mean nothing now," she hissed, her voice laced with an icy venom. "You have crossed a line, and now you will face the consequences."

She raised her hand once more, summoning a torrent of magical energy that coiled around her fingertips like a serpent ready to strike. My heart pounded in my chest, my every instinct screaming at me to run, but I knew there was no escape from her power.

She unleashed her wrath, the magical energy surging forward with unrelenting force. It engulfed me, enveloping me in a maelstrom of pain and suffering.

Bones snapped, organs ruptured, and my body twisted in unnatural ways. Blood spurted from my mouth, my vision fading to black as my consciousness waned.

In my moments of agony, I realized the depth of my regret and wished I had my own powers. Maybe I would not be disrespected like this.

My own wife was treating me the same way she treated those dungeon crawlers.

I felt my heartbeat beat slowly as I closed my eyes and saw a red light before opening it to see that I was still in my parents' living room.

I had underestimated the power she had, the hunter who held dominion over forces beyond my understanding. And now, I paid the ultimate price for my foolishness.

As I drew my final breath, my body broken and lifeless, she stood over me, a cold smirk playing upon her lips. "Regret is a bitter companion, isn't it?" she taunted, her voice dripping with a cruel satisfaction. "Remember this lesson well, for it shall serve as a reminder of the consequences of crossing me. You are nothing but another waste of my time. The minute you try this again would be your last. So watch it."

With those chilling words, she turned away from me, leaving behind a scene of devastation and regret as she went back to sit on the couch with Ron who fixed everything with his hunter ability like nothing had happened.

The battle had been lost, but the cost had been immeasurable.

My ego was broken.

I got to my feet and struggled to stand before them as Ron laughed at me.

"You touch her and you will have me to deal with," he threatened, which even made the entire situation worse.

Ron was one of the most dangerous and violent hunters to deal with. Even as a B ranker, it didn't stop other hunters from looking up to him.

They held hands again which had me sneering. "Will you two split up immediately? What's the meaning of you two holding hands?"

"That's no way to speak to our guests," I heard my mother speak behind me as I turned to see her with a smile on her face while she waved the maids to drop the drinks in their possession in front of the guests.

"Mother, what are you doing?" I asked in shock as she used her powers to push me out of the way, before settling into a seat.

"Here you go, Ron," she said with a smile, pointing to the drinks and food. "You too Diana. Eat up. And Diana, I'm sure Ron must have tried to help you in various ways and I am sorry for what Kane here has done to you. He is but a troubled child but we will have him straightened up right away."

"Thank you very much ma'am," responded my wife. "I know having a child like Kane can be a handful so I don't blame you for anything."
