Chapter 51 - Truth About The Death Hounds

"Yes," chimed the two males, slightly angry at the happy-go-lucky reaper.

Teemo sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I don't know if my Familiars have gotten the wrong information or are purely dumb by nature."

"To the best of my knowledge, the Death Hound had been summoned by you and has been going around catching dying people," explained Teemo, as the Loplin handed him some Water Elemental Ores.

"It could've been a wild dog summoned from another group. Death Hounds, like dogs in this realm, come in many forms and run around in abundance in the land of the dead."

"Any dog would've gotten summoned and people would still see it as the Death Hound. It might not even be the one I know," said the Grim Reaper.

"We have a saying amongst the village when it comes to those things... 'When you meet the Death Hound, your fate is sealed.'"

"It runs rampant in the local folklore as a demonic beast that claims the lives of those unfortunate enough to cross it," said the rabbit as he continued finding more Ores.

"That should not be the case as the Death Hounds aren't supposed to take souls from the living, only picking or showing up whenever Death is imminent. They aren't powerful to seal anyone's fate."

"Think of it as the smell of rotting flesh; it's not because of the smell that killed the person but it appears because the individual had died. An Omen, not a cause..."

"Hm... Then why do you think the dog is running around now? The reports have said that it occurs more frequently now compared to before. 10 sightings in a week compared to 1 in a month," questioned Teemo, eyebrows furrowing.

"I have no clue, but you might want to take a different approach. Maybe see what is another cause of death as the Hounds are attracted to those marked to die not to kill others."

"As for me, all I know is that I need to find a way to get rid of this anchor before I go insane and implode," said the Ankou as Layla stirred from her nap.

"Why will you go insane? I thought you were a God?" asked the sleepy Dragoon.

"Because I cannot be confined to a single realm and age. I have to be everywhere and every time to collect lost souls. Think of it as fitting an ocean in a small pouch."

"You could shrink it but you can't do it for long. And I honestly don't wish to hurt you, my little purple Dragoon…" cooed the Grim Reaper as he lightly tickled the girl's abdomen.

"Okay… Let's get this straight: you were forced to be here and when you tried to get out of your binds, you accidentally killed the ones who summoned you."

"And you weren't the one who summoned the Death Hound, which is currently appearing everywhere and is trying to do its job of going to people who were already dying," said the Felidae as he tried to ignore what the Ankou was doing to Layla.

"Pretty much… Any other questions?"

"Yes… How and why did you use the appearance of a Dragfilla to scare us? And who was that individual?"

"He was a real being as I can't shapeshift into something that doesn't exist. Unfortunately, the only reason why I could be…"

"A lost soul, forgotten and a refugee from the purge of Dragfilla…" finished Layla with sad eyes.

"Yes… Well then, I shall not keep you three any longer and will take my leave now," said the Ankou, suddenly as he got ready to stand up.

"Wait, what are you going to do now, since you've no clue on how to unbind yourself from this realm and age?" questioned the Felidae.

"I honestly have no idea but I've got no choice. I should stay as a shut-in for now rather than roaming around the living. People might get scared, you know…"

The little Dragoon looked at Teemo with pleading eyes. The Felidae knew what she was requesting and wanted to protest but then remembered that all three of them were alive because of her.

"I never thought I'd say this but would you like to come over to my place, Grim Reaper? As a thanks for not killing us," suggested the Felidae, with a hint of hesitation.

The best way to describe how Teemo sounded was as if he had been held at gunpoint.

"I do not mind, I do need a place to stay as I'm stuck in a partial physical form rather than my usual spirit form. Will there be cookies?" asked the Ankou, with eyes shining at the last question.

"I should have some stored in the cupboard but I can't guarantee that the cookies would be to your liking."
