Chapter 24 - Chatting Over Vegetables

"If coal can burn for a few Chimes, then a single Crystal can burn for two days and nights. They aren't too expensive if you can source the correct ingredients. Besides, it could also double as explosives."

Layla got interested when she heard the word 'explosives', turning around to look at Teemo with a raised eyebrow. The red Crystal did its job as the stove erupted in crimson flames as the cat casually adjusted the flames.

The Felidae then started chopping up some root vegetables after he had prepared a large pot and placed it on the stove's top.

"How do you turn a fuel into an explosive?" quizzed Layla, as she allowed her fake tail to materialize.

"By pouring Elemental Energy into the Crystal. However, it must be an Offense Element. Want mushrooms?" asked Teemo as he turned to look at the Loplin.

"Yes, please. What is an Offense Element?" replied the bunny.

"I'm surprised you are asking me that since you've used Magecraft more often than most bunnies."

"And how many bunnies you've met that you've allowed to walk away without mauling them with your blade?" spat the Loplin without looking at the Felidae.

"Touché. But I've met a few for trade so they went home with all their parts attached. As for war bunnies like you… I can't remember…"

"See?!"

"Anyways, for the sake of the lil Dragoon over there, I will still explain it. Elements are divided into three categories. Recovery, Offense, and Defense. We are governed and divided by the 6 Elements, right?"

"The Dark and Fire Elements are Offense Elements, which have a natural Skillset with more attack-heavy skills."

"So that's why my brother kept saying he can't do attacks very well… So as a Water Element user such as myself, I can never perform as well as a Fire Element user in terms of attack?" questioned Layla with a hint of sadness as she pouted.

Matt extended an arm and placed a hand on Layla's head to lightly pat her.

"Not the usual way but I didn't say that you can't copy them. Remember, you know your powers better than anyone and manipulate them to your advantage in any situation."

"You play the game, don't let it play you," answered Teemo as he placed the cover over the pot and allowed it to boil.

The Felidae then joined the table, sitting beside the Loplin.

"What do you mean by that? I thought attack will always win over defense?" quizzed Layla.

"Not always. I have seen healers do more damage than attackers. And if the defense is as high or if not higher than the attack's potency, the entire spell will even out. It also applies to physical attacks. So I won't be too depressed about it."

"You will find your own way to perform better in attacks. Like how you did during the battle against me. Just ask Matt, it's not every day that you get to send me flying across a room and slamming into the wall with full armor."

"I've done it once and my soul nearly became homeless. Not a fun day. Or a great way to say hello for the first time. But Teemo is right, with the right tactics, the Water Element can be quite powerful against other Elements."

"I mean, you proved it during the earlier battle too. Your defense, even if for a few Ticks, surpassed the potency of my power. Either that or I'm getting rusty…"

Now it was Layla's turn to pat the little bunny on his head, making his ears bend and shiver in happiness.

"But I was never against you in that battle? Plus I thought you were using your melee shots and no Magecraft?"

"Against Teemo, not using Magecraft would be a death sentence. I would much rather file for divorce with my head than head into battle with him without my Fire Element. The bullets you stepped on, especially the ones you kicked away, are all my Fire Elemental bullets."

"They were not as powerful as my normal Skillset ones but the potency difference is not much."

"The vegetable soup is done. Can I try some? I want to see if they go well with my tails…" asked Layla as she sniffed the air.

"Sure. But adding on to what Matt has mentioned, yes, I've noticed you've got good defense but it wasn't enough against my attacks. And that can be improved with proper use of that massive pool of Elemental Energy you've got."

"Huh?" chimed the two at the table as Teemo poured out the soup, plunging the cozy place in a cloud of vegetable soup aroma.

"Your Elemental Energy is so massive that you are leaking it out to no end. I wouldn't be surprised if one of Tiamat's snakes had already attacked you."
