Chapter 10 - Towards The Campania

"Teemo's residence won't be anywhere close to the border but we could disguise you and land at the nearest village once your wings hit their limit."

"Why me? How about you?"

"I guess you are quite a shut-in huh? Well, I hate to break it to you but both the rabbits and the cats have broken silence and are in an alliance. We called a truce and peace treaty to get economies growing."

"Unfortunately, they hate Dragoons for seizing all of their riches, leaving them in poverty for the last century," explained Matt as he tried his best to eat a rib.

The rib flew across the table as the rabbit failed to grab it properly. Thankfully, Layla snatched the rib before it smacked her face.

"I guess I'm not too welcomed there then. I'll find my way to stay low," noted Layla as she chopped down on the rib.

There was a lingering hint of sadness in the young maidens' tone mixed with a lace of anger. Matt knew how she felt but there was nothing he could say, it was the truth.

Had it not been for the greed of the Dragoons, the borders would not have been built and the kingdoms around it would have had a flourishing economy.

"Do you have any disguise, other clothes than an apron or your scales?"

"I do but it's only a black short dress that I pair up with black tights and high-heels… I don't have any clothing to hide my face or horns. My tail can disappear at will," explained Layla, finishing up her potion and getting up.

"You can borrow my cloak from last night. Pack up your things, we're moving out in a Chime and a half," noted Matt as he continued to munch on the mashed potatoes.

Layla said nothing as she nodded and made a beeline to her room, but not before Matt stopped her by grabbing her wrist.

"The food was great, it's been some time since I had food as nice as the two meals you've made for me," complimented Matt as he looked at Layla.

"I assume that you are a satisfied customer then," replied the Dragoon before moving away.

When it was time to head off, Layla had donned the earlier outfit she had mentioned and was ready in the living room, trying to put out the flames. When she was done, Matt was waiting for her at the bottom of the stairs.

As Layla tried to climb up, the bunny made one more scan around the room before following her.

"Are you sure that you'd like to leave your parents' wings behind?" questioned the Loplin.

"It won't do me any good hauling them around since I've got a pair of working ones on my back. Besides, with its owners dead, the wings aren't as useful as before."

The wind tonight was strong, much to Layla's liking. The Dragoon made sure that no one was looking as she summoned up her wings and started to move up into the air.

"Is there any other way you could hold me without grabbing me by the waist?" asked Matt, being severely uncomfortable with a girl grabbing his waist in that situation.

"Would you prefer I grab your tail or ears instead?"

"NO!"

"Then shove it up and chummy along! I haven't got all night!" yelled Layla as Matt begrudgingly scooted towards the flying Dragoon.

"Actually, I might as well do this," murmured Layla as she closed her eyes and moved her hands around.

The poor rabbit freaked out but was intrigued as he witnessed water droplets being sucked out from the area around him by Layla. In no time, an ice basket with iced strings plopped in front of Matt.

"Best I can do. Don't worry about it melting. So long there's no sun, it'll be good for a few Chimes. Let's get a move on," instructed Layla.

With Matt praying to whatever god there was, he slowly stepped into the basket and Layla wasted no time to fly off. The weather was cool but the journey was still long, especially since the Loplin weighed more than the Dragoon was used to.

Once they passed the borders and into the Campania Kingdom, Layla flew downwards to the nearest alleyway of a village. Matt jumped out before the ice basket could crumble and held out his arms for the poor Dragoon to prevent her from crashing down.

"I've got ya, you can rest now," whispered Matt as he caught the falling Dragoon.

"Thanks…"

"Before we move off, you need to put on the cloak first. Then leave it to me to find somewhere to rest and recuperate. You look like death," said Matt as he placed Layla to lean on a nearby wall.
