Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"I still can't believe that Alex got married to a wimp like you. He used to be so obsessed with me, I wonder why he suddenly went so below his level," Mirabel rambled in a posh way to Caily who responded with an exasperated eye-roll.

It was undeniable that Caily was feeling sheer annoyance from Mirabel's never-ending chatter of how much her husband, Alex Thornefield, loved her more.

Caily was at her husband's business dinner party that she didn't want to attend in the first place but had been forced to by her husband, Alex.

"We fell in love, that's why!" Caily tried to defend but Mirabel's boisterous laugh made her feel embarrassed,

"Love my foot." Mirabel snapped in a mocking chuckle, brushing a chunk of her blonde hair behind her ear,

"Alex can never love another woman aside from me. He has loved me for years and he will continue to do so till when I finally decide to give him a chance," she added in a boastful tone,

The twisted frown on Caily's face curled into a bright smile when her eyes rested on her husband heading towards them,

"Hey, honey," She beamed in his direction and waved towards him,

But her heart sank deep into her stomach when Alex bluntly ignored her and instead, went to stand beside Mirabel,

Her face fell into a gloomy expression at once,

Caily felt utterly embarrassed as she knew people were watching like they always did,

She bit her lower lips, fighting back the tears of shame that were threatening to spill,

Even though she had married him without knowing, it was not news that her husband was head over heels for another woman, Mirabel Sinclair, the chatterbox.

"Hi, honey. You are here?" Caily fought back the shame and greeted him first, but he barely even glanced at her before gracing Mirabel's cheek with a peck.

Mirabel's raucous giggle filled the thick air around them, It was a shrill and attention-seeking laugh that always irritated Caily to the core.

But Caily's husband didn't seem irritated by it, he wrapped his arm around Mirabel's waist and drew her so close to him that their faces were just a breath away from touching,

A dismissive gasp escaped from Caily,

'Are they about to kiss right in front of me?' the thoughts pondered in her head

While she was feeling crushed by his public display of affection towards another woman, The guests of the party seemed to all be in support and cheered him on.

"Get it, Alex," A friend of his excitedly yelled from a distance and a roll of claps and laughs followed.

No one respected her or even acknowledged her as Alex's wife. To them, she was just a gold digger who seduced a billionaire and restrained him from chasing his true love.

As the cheers and claps grew louder, Caily bowed her head in shame and briskly walked out of the room. She couldn't bear to stand there and watch her husband kiss another woman.

Once outside, "Oh, here you are," Caily heard Alex say behind her.

She immediately turned to him, did he see that she was hurt and followed her out? She hoped - but that wasn't the case.

"I have to head home now for a meeting with Grandpa, but you can't leave just yet," He nonchalantly decreed to her weary face,

"Why can't I?" Caily questioned softly, she was so exhausted already, all she wanted to do was head home and get her sanity back after the unfair situation she had just experienced with her husband and his true love but here he gallantly stood, telling her that she couldn't leave just yet.

"Because I say so," He charged at her, seeming infuriated by her response,

"Don't create any more dramas tonight, and just do as I say," He ordered with a disgruntled tone,

Caily inhaled sharply as she tried to make sense of his words, but all she could picture in her head was him with Mirabel.

She couldn't help but wonder if they actually ended up kissing.

"Am I not good enough for you? Why do you have to flirt with her in front of me like that, Alex?" She asked, her heart breaking into pieces as she searched his eyes for an answer,

Alex stared hard at her for a few seconds,

"Listen, what I do with Mirabel is none of your fucking concern," He cautioned

"It does. I am your wife!" She fought back,

"Why did you lie to me? Why did you choose to marry me if you were in love with someone else?" Her lips trembled slightly, she had always felt hesitant to question him about it but now she finally was.

Caily had given up her lifelong dream of becoming a medical doctor and became a stay-at-home wife for him, just like he wanted.

She had thought Alex loved her just as much as she did but it was all a lie.

Alex had pretended to be a poor colleague at work because according to him he was looking for a deserving wife to marry but that was just a facade to cover up the truth that he was looking for someone to use and she fell into his trap.

"Zip it already and just do as I said," He thundered, walking past her to his car,

Caily involuntarily jerked away from his path, slightly petrified,

Once in his car, "Remember, stay until the party ends," He screeched at her before driving off.

Caily squeezed her eyes shut,

She was sick of being treated like a nobody and a piece of trash by her own husband,

In the grueling two years of their unfruitful marriage, Caily had tried all that she could to make her husband love her but it all proved abortive.

Just like Mirabel said, he would probably love only her for the rest of his life.

"Hey Caily, care for a drink?" Mirabel's voice echoed from behind her,

Caily inhaled sharply as if sniffing in an invisible tears and abruptly turned to face Mirabel, standing with a bottle of wine.

Yes, she really needed a drink at the moment and it didn't matter who the offerer was, she just wanted to get her mind off the whole damn thing.

She strutted over to Mirabel and jerked the already-opened bottle of wine from Mirabel's grip.

She gulped down a large amount of the wine and it didn't take long before she began to feel sleepy.

Just when she was completely out and was about to fall to the ground, a man's strong arm circled around her waist,

"She is just as gullible as I expected her to be," Mirabel smirked,

"Take her away before someone sees you. And remember to take her clothes off. I will be with you in a few minutes," Mirabel said to the man,

The man nodded and walked away with a passed-out Caily dangling on his shoulder.
