"Are you sure you won't regret divorcing your wife?" Alex's Grandfather inquired after the drama he had experienced earlier with Caily and her parents.
Alex gave a derisive snort, "What is there to regret about divorcing a cheat?"
"What if all of the allegations against her turn out to be a lie and the framing work of someone else?" Thomas pondered out loud,
Alex released a dismissive laugh, "Grandpa, no one would go to such an extent to frame an insignificant woman like Caily. She did this all on her own,"
"Amelia, you used to be so fond of Caily, what suddenly changed?" Thomas veered his attention to his daughter, Amelia.
"Not until I learned about her real motives for marrying Alex. She is just a wimp who wants to reap from what she did not sow," Amelia spat furiously,
Thomas looked away and rested his eyes on Mirabel, cunningly smiling all to herself,
"Mirabel, are you sure that you love my son? If I remember correctly, you had rejected him two years ago," Thomas questioned,
It was obvious from the way his eyes lingered over her that he did not trust her and her sudden interest in Alex,
"That was a long time, Grandpa. And in the two years, I have lived regretting losing a good man like Alex. And with the recent happenings, I believe fate is really on our side. Alex was meant to be mine." Mirabel replied in an overly excited tone,
"I'm sure you guys will make a really perfect couple," Amelia beamed at her, her smile almost reaching her eyes,
Mirabel giggled loudly as she thanked Amelia with a luscious tone. She leaned closer to Alex and planted a loud kiss on his cheek. Alex blushed and drew her in for a hug.
Thomas stole one last glance at them before he rose to his feet and moved out of the room.

Mirabel felt uneasy with Thomas's attitude toward her. He seemed like the roadblock that would hinder her from getting Alex and everything she wanted from him, like the company.
Everyone saw Caily as the gold digger but Mirabel was the real defined gold digger.
Two years ago, when an unattractive Alex had confessed his feelings for her, she was the elite daughter of one of the most prominent business families in the city.
But now, unknown to the public, her family was going through several series of setbacks and if it went on, they would be dirt poor with lots of debts to pay.
So, here she was, trying to win back his heart and take as much as much as she could from him.
Mirabel was determined to get rid of anything that stood in her way, Thomas had shown to be the first obstacle, and she had to do something.
The sun had set, it was just the perfect time to carry out her deed.
Mirabel secretly made her way to Thomas's room, while on the way, restlessly hoping that his door wouldn't be locked…and it wasn't.
She tiptoed into a deeply asleep Thomas's room. She slowly strode to the prescription pill bottle visible on the bedside table which was his painkillers and swapped them with diclofenac, a medication that Thomas was allergic to.
Once she was done, she tiptoed her way out of the room, but just when she closed the door behind her, a maid appeared from a corner.
"What were you doing in there?" Maid Rose questioned, a solemn look on her face. She was not only a maid, she was also the one assigned to tend to Thomas and his health.
Mirabel's eyes only slightly widened as a result of the maid's unexpected appearance, but she immediately composed herself and released a laugh that wasn't even needed.
"I asked a question," Maid Rose pushed,
"Hey! How dare you address me so disrespectfully? I am the new daughter-in-law of this household, Okay? So address me with respect!"
Maid Rose scoffed, "Not yet,"
"What?" Mirabel gasped, her lashes fluttering just enough to put out a fire,
"You are not an official member of the Thornefield family yet, Miss Sinclair, so I cannot refer to you with the due respect that you desire," Maid Rose released with a stance,
"So, what were you doing in Old Master Thornefield's bedroom?" She resumed to question hoarsely,
"I don't own any explanation to you," Mirabel fired,
Maid Rose sighed fed-uply, "Again, you are not an official member of the fa…"
"What's going on here?" Alex questioned as he strutted towards them,
Mirabel rushly ran to him and wrapped her arm around his,
"Maid Rose, what is all this disturbance for? It's late already and you very well know that Grandpa would be asleep by now,"
"I'm sorry, Mr. Alex," Maid Rose apologized with a slight head bow, she briskly turned and exited the premise.
"Are you okay, honey?" Alex turned to her with concern on his face,
"Yes, baby. You came to save me at the right time, she was being really rude to me," She poured with a feigned sadness.
Alex smiled at her as he held her hand and led her away.

Alex and his mother sat almost frozen on the couch. They could not believe what the doctor was saying about their Grandpa Thomas.
"I'm sorry, Madam…I did the best I could." Doctor Vale Consoled, "We will take him to the hospital for examinations on the cause of death,"

"Now Alex has no father figure in his life," Caily uttered to herself, utterly devastated at hearing the news of Grandpa Thomas's sudden passing.
She never even got the chance to bid him her final farewell. And he was just fine before she left the house.
What suddenly caused him to have a heart attack?
"I suspect some kind of foreplay in his death. He was a healthy old man," Emily voiced as she sashayed out of the room.
Caily couldn't help but agree.
Even though it was beyond her control and not her business, Caily was heartbroken.
She couldn't stop herself from suspecting the Thornefield family members which only consisted of - Amelia, Alex, Scarlett-Alex's distant sister who was away, and the supposed new Mrs. Thornefield, Mirabel.
But this was no time to be occupied with that, she was leaving the country tomorrow to start a better life.
