Zemin thought that their armed convoy of about 40 Psionics (about half of them Esquires, and the others full-fledged, veteran Exemplars) on vehicles and mechas would go toward a military camp closer to a border. Instead, he soon realized that their way, shown by Commander Mordechai personally, led directly toward the Glass Plains.
Close to it, they caught up with a company of Soldiers on the march. It was there that Zemin began to grasp the larger picture of the Commander's strategy.
The Exemplar forces rushed on their way to catch up with these forces. They must've been reinforcements sent from deeper into the Holy Dominion. Since Zemin was forced to sit in an armored truck with other Esquires and Exemplars as much as he could and let his wounds heal at least a bit more, he could go to the Soldiers and ask where they were going from and to.
