Chapter 44 - Old nightmare

"I shouldn't have come here. I'm going to doom you all—like everybody else!"

It was like a dam that broke, seemingly for no reason, because no one had paid attention to the cracks in its foundation. In an instant, Zemin remembered how closed-off Adia felt to him at their reunion those three weeks ago, and wondered how much grief about her dead or crippled comrades in arms she hid.

"Adia, wait!"

Zemin reached out, trying to catch Adia's hand, but she was already out of reach and picking up her robe.

"What are you even talking about? No, it doesn't matter. It can't be anything good, so stop thinking about it, too!" Citri said, sitting up, then added pleadingly. "Please, Adia. Don't chase ugly thoughts."

Adia stopped, but didn't turn towards them. She put on her robe and rubbed her eyes with her forearm.
