Chapter 9 - Chrysalis

Kevin's golden eyes shoot around like a frightened animal as he takes in what he's done. Planets around him have crumbled to dust. Entire galaxies dissolved in an instant, entire civilizations wiped out because of him. He listens intently for the voice of one person, the thought of one being but he finds none. His golden eyes look around and see nothing, just emptiness, even space itself shattered. Kevin stands up straight and looks down at Frederick. "You see? You didn't even mean to kill them... yet they died all the same..." The mangled god mutters as he looks up at Kevin. "I- They didn't deserve...." Kevin mutters as his mind races with guilt.

Frederick regenerates and stands up. "It doesn't matter... They don't matter..." He starts and Kevin stares at him with a whirlpool of emotions. "What matters is I've finally found you. I still want us to be family not enemies." Frederick says. "I don't know..." Kevin looks around and his eyes widen further as he notices a gap in the void that is now his beloved universe. The pitch white gap expands like a crack in a bottle and the universe begins to shatter around them. "No No No." Kevin mutters as he looks around at the decaying universe.

Frederick steps forward, "Come on brother. It's one of an infinity others. We can find another but were unique. Please Kevin.. I'm tired of dealing with these insects all by myself." He says as he snaps his fingers and a portal appears behind him glistening with golden energy. "I don't..." Kevin mutters as everything he's experienced flashes through his mind. Observing the universe, his isolation, what he created, what he destroyed...

"Please don't make me brother..." Frederick says at the universe cracks around them and he steps forward on the emptiness beneath them. Kevin's gaze snaps back up to his brother's, "I'm not helping you massacre them... I'm not a murderer.... I won't participate in your slaughter..." Kevin says sternly but hesitation lingers underneath. "Why can't you just!-" Frederick starts then sighs. "Fine. I'll leave then." He says as he turns and steps toward the portal. "Wait... No." Kevin says as the universe finally collapses around them and they stand there in complete darkness. "I'll be back and when I am, you better make up your mind brother." Frederick says as he looks back at Kevin. Kevin stares down at the floor for a moment contemplating everything at once.

"Goodbye brother." Kevin says looking up at Frederick before he disappears into the portal and it closes behind him.

Kevin looks around at what's left of the world he molded. He sits down on the nothingness beneath him and looks down at his hands still painted with golden blood. He swore to help this world, to be the golden light amongst the dark. Now all he sees is the dark. The images of bodies flash around in his vision and a golden casing wraps around him. The words of his brother echo through his mind as he cocoons himself. He falls into a deep slumber. One memory hits his mind before he falls into the sea of his mind.

'Thank you Kevin. You saved us!'
