Chapter 2 - FAMILY?

After finishing a conversation with his wife, Tenchi Shiru takes a bath and then goes directly to Kaden's room. Upon opening the door, he finds Kaden sitting on a chair on one side of the room, reading a book on the table. On the other side, Yoshi is sleeping, covered with a blanket. The window is open, allowing a cool and silent breeze to enter the room. Kaden notices his dad looking at both of them and asks, "Hi Dad, have you had dinner?" Tenchi replies, "I just took a bath and came here to see both of you." Kaden responds, "Oh, it's good..." Suddenly, Tenchi interrupts Kaden and says in a gentle tone, "Today, I met your class teacher, Shota Matsuda. He was complaining about your academics, grades, and the fact that you forgot to do your homework today. Can you tell me how you forgot to do your homework?" Kaden replies in a fearful tone, "I was practicing chess for the school tournament, that's why I forgot." Tenchi asks in a normal tone, "Oh, is that so?" Kaden thinks his father is in a good mood and replies in a slightly scared tone, "Yes, Dad." Just after saying this, Tenchi kicks Kaden in the face, shouting angrily, "You are not even good in studies and you are wasting time in chess! How dare you play a game when your homework was not done?" Kaden tries to stand up, but Tenchi kicks him in the stomach, causing Kaden to fall to the floor and cry out in pain. Hearing the noise, Kaden's mother, Ayumi, rushes to Kaden's room and sees Tenchi holding a belt in his hands, while Yoshi, Kaden's younger brother, is still sleeping. Kaden is grunting in pain and crying on the floor. Ayumi rushes towards Kaden, but Tenchi grabs her hair, throws her away, and shouts, "He is dumb, and still you want me to not do that?" Ayumi cries and apologizes, saying, "Give him one chance." Tenchi replies, "How many chances can I give to this stupid? Look at his younger brother, how intelligent he is. He studies every day, even at night, and now he needs medicine to sleep because of migraines."On the opposite side, there stood his older brother, who was mute and foolish. Tenchi, pointing at Kaden, expressed his concern, "You have no idea how much this affects my reputation among my friends and neighbors. Your punishment for your failure is that you will not sleep tonight. You must make up for what you have lost in your studies because of that foolish game of chess. I will keep an eye on you all night." Tenchi began to leave the room, while Kaden, crying on the floor, remained behind. After Tenchi left, Ayumi approached Kaden and said, "Forget about it, my dear. Start studying and don't let him do this again. It's all in your hands." She gently made Kaden sit up, even though he was still sobbing. She spoke kindly, "I am with you, dear. No one is here. You can relax now. Oh, I forgot to tell you, I made fish curry for you. So stop crying, or I will eat the whole curry myself." Kaden stopped crying, though he still sniffled, and replied to his mother, "Mom, why did you let him treat you so badly? Why didn't you fight back? Why did you hold back? He is a monster who doesn't even respect women. He should be ashamed of himself." She replied kindly, "Don't think like that, dear. He is still my husband, and as a wife, it is my duty to follow his path and obey him. Whatever he says or does to me, I have to accept it, as he was someone who cared for me when no one else was there. So, as a wife, I need to follow his instructions, and as a mother, I want my children to be happy." Ayumi then smiled and asked Kaden, "Promise me you will never give up in life and will protect your brother." Kaden replied, "Sure, Mama, I will." Both of them were smiling, and then the scene ended.
