With the beast king gone I had some questions for my Uncle, as his role on this continent seems to be much more important than he had let on.
I slowly stood up and approached my uncle who was still looking off in the distance at the receding flags of the beast kings convoy. My sister got up to follow me which I welcomed, so I urged her to walk at my side rather than behind me.
As if understanding our purpose for approaching him my uncle started speaking to us when we came to a stop beside him.
"Around four hundred years ago your father and I were tasked with repairing the relationship between the mortal races and dragons. I decided to start with the Beast men and your father went to the humans.
"Upon my arrival here I came across the forest that was then known as the Howling Depths, it is a forest that spans across almost a fourth of the continent. I decided that this was a good place to prepare, so I flew to the center of the forest where the core tree is located. At the time the tree was still rather young so for the next hundred years or so I imbued it with my mana, accelerating its growth.
"As a direct result of this the forest began to expand, of course this did not go unnoticed by this continents inhabitants so expeditions were launched into the forest to find the cause of this rapid growth. By this point I had essentially integrated with the core tree, the one that is now called the Great tree and held some sway over the monsters that inhabit the forest at large.
"Using these monsters I expelled the explorers and used it as an excuse to make my first appearance. I flew to the beast men capitol and landed at the front gate, then used a spell to project my voice across the whole city. I asked to meet with the beast king and ensured that I was here to not cause any harm.
"After waiting for some time the beast king emerged with a small army at his back and we began to negotiate. I expressed my displeasure with there invasion of my domain but ensured that if no further incursions were made then I would not retaliate.
"Over the course of the talk the two of us came to an understanding, I would use my affinity for water and the ocean to cut off the humans invasion routes and expel all non beast men from the continent. In return the king assured that the beast men at large would never bring harm to another dragon again outside of self defense.
"He also pledged to aid us if the world ever came under threat due to the Dagarath again as they had done a millennium ago. With the assurance from me that I would pledge my backing to his lineage. Then we sealed our agreement with a blood pact. Ensuring that all of his royal line would also be bound to our agreement.
"I then created this platform as a meeting point and connected it to a point in there palace that would notify them if I ever needed to meet. And as you can see, I hold much influence in there kingdom. As for the item I requested, if you can absorb the innate power of dragons then what could be better than the materials that were once harvested from our kin for your growth."
That was quite a bit of information, why would my father decide to approach the humans? If it was me I would have approached the elves and beast men first, as compared to the humans those two were much more open to dragons and had stopped actively hunting us a long time ago.
There must have been a significant reason that my father made the choice to go to the humans, which ultimately led to his demise. Just the thought that he had gone to them to make peace only to be stabbed in the back made my blood boil. But for now I was not able to do anything about it so I would just keep it in mind for the future.
"Uncle do you really think that this will work? Would the mana contained within the remains of our kin not have dissipated over time?"
"It is true that some has most likely been used or dissipated, but the lions share of the mana should still be intact as the mortal races tend to hold materials harvested from our kind as divine materials. So they are well preserved in most cases."
I nodded in understanding, then turned to my sister and asked her if she was hungry. I got a shy nod in reply before I turned to my uncle.
"We are both rather famished so I would like your permission to go hunt some monsters."
"I will be joining you then, now that our relative location has been revealed I must stay with you both at all times."
I nodded then began to walk in to the forests depths, not to long after that we had found a pack of wyverns and easily dispatched four of them. As we indulged I noticed that although the mana contained with the wyverns was vastly inferior to our own it still increased my mana capacity ever so slightly. Another thing that I found was that even though all of the wyverns that we had killed used wind mana I did not have anything added to my mark.
Having finished our meal we headed back to the platform and both Corentine and I decided to begin practicing our mana manipulation.
