Over the course of the next few months occasionally as my sister and I practiced and grew large steel plated carriages would arrive and present the contents to my uncle. It was also at this time that the beast men also noticed Corentine and I's presence though I have no idea how they managed to miss two rather large dragons sitting behind Delmar up until that point.
He was massive but to me our presence just from our unique mana output was enough for recognition. I guess the mortal races did not have the sensitivity for mana as we do.
This made me wonder what else they lacking that I considered a normal aspect of life, what would it be like to not be able to see the mana fluctuations in the air? I always thought that they were quite beautiful so I would most definitely miss the sight of them.
But I digress when new items would be brought to my uncle he made me consume them. Most of the items were things such as shields made from dragon scales or weapons made from claws, but some of them contained portions of different dragons mana core.
There had been three of theses so far an by far they gave me the most power, also out of all the items they were the only ones that had provided me with new elements. The other items gave such meager benefits I eventually stepped forward and told the envoys to only bring me items that contained either the blood or mana essence of dragons.
The envoys paled at my seemingly displeased command, only bowing before leaving.
A common trend I felt within myself was that every time a new item was brought to me, it made me deeply angry. So much so that if not for Delmar's blood oath then I would have most likely went to go burn down their capitol with everyone inside.
After a long day of practicing my control of what I have started to call the voice, I was now sitting next to Delmar at the edge of the platform looking out over the sprawling planes. The night sky shone brightly with its three moons lighting up the grass below.
"You are to quick to anger Valorian, the beast-men have recognized the error in their past actions and are trying to mend our relationship. We cannot punish a race for their ancestors transgressions, though the crimes they have committed are still fresh in our minds they are but tales of ages past to these people."
"Do you think that I do not understand that the individuals are innocent? But as you have say they murdered our kin in cold blood, and our reaction even if it was ages ago is to simply let them go unpunished. A price must be paid. Be that in blood or service something must be given for what they took."
Delmar let out a long sigh before looking to my sister and saying. "What do is your opinion Corentine, surely you must have something to say."
After a few seconds of thought she replied "I stand with my brother."
"It seems that my brother's children are just as stubborn as he was. Right now we have bigger things to worry about, you both need to keep in mind that your sister is still being held by the progenitor's faction. Until we rescue her and take him out of the picture you have no room to think about anything else. "
"Of course, do you really think I would forget my sister so easily?"
"No, but a reminder of our current situation may help with your focus. Channel your anger into a fire to forge yourselves to become stronger."
I simply nodded then laid down my head, I knew that I had much more work ahead of me and needed to grow much stronger.
The next morning a new steel carriage peeked over the horizon, But as it approached I heard distant wing beats. I quickly woke up my uncle and sister before saying "we have been found."
I turned back in the direction of the carriage and leapt into the sky, I flew as fast as my wings would carry me, arriving at the carriage in under a minute.
I could feel that the item they had brought this time was powerful so I landed directly in front of the convoy and said "Clear away now!" once they had moved I smashed apart the carriage and found a fully intact mana core.
Not having time to study it I quickly threw it into my maw and swallowed, the familiar warm feeling permeated my entire body.
Looking to the sky I could now see five adult dragons closing in on us quickly, I looked at the cowering mortals and said "if you want to live I suggest you run."
before leaping into the air once more, I made my way back to my family and met them in the air above Delmar's platform.
"They must have followed the carriage." I said.
"It matters not how they found us, only that they have. Get ready to fight for your lives."
