Chereads / Hunter Quinn: Black Magic System / Chapter 10 - Dungeon Diving II

Chapter 10 - Dungeon Diving II

After safely pruning the Venus Fly Trap using his flame coated dagger, Hunter smirked and looked for his weapon. Surprisingly enough, it was stationed on a nearby tree bark.

'Going down there just to get it puts me at risk. Throwing it was a bad idea afterall...' he said to himself as he rubbed his chin. "Status Screen."

'I'd like to try out [Prey Gaze]. Maybe it'll give me a better view of where the Venus Fly Traps are exactly. Plus, since this thing can read heat signatures, it should be able to show me where the traps are most vulnerable...'

[Activating: Prey Gaze...

- WARNING: The use of this skill for more than 20 minutes will cause bleeding in the eye]

Hunter's eyes began glowing, imbuing a soft and gentle blue light from them. The shape of his irises changed and formed into the shape of a tiger in its hunting mode.

He felt his energy slightly increase and clutched his hands as the sensation traveled throughout his entire body. His strength also increased by 20%, giving him more energy, more mana and increased strength.

"Now let's try out this skill. [Hellhound Chains]" said Hunter.

As he did, a black chain formed on his hand. He didn't know what to do with it and so, he turned to System Rosana for advice. It shook its body and sighed.

[Simply change the chain's property by create an image of what it should look like in your mind's eye]

Hunter took a deep breath and closed his eyes. The Hellhound Chains began glowing and slowly, spikes formed all over them and emanated his energy. Hunter opened his eyes and smiled gently.

"Awesome. Let's test this out."

Hunter stared into the forest and saw multiple heat signatures, all of them belonging to Venus Fly Traps. If he had to count all of them, there'd roughly be about 29 of them.

"It's no wonder I kept getting trapped by these things. They're freaking everywhere..."

[How about we test out that chain of yours?]

Hunter glanced at his chain and spun it above him. Using his [Prey Gaze], he located a nearby trap and threw the chain towards it. The chain pierced the monster, digging deep into its head and killing it without opening its mouth.

Hunter pulled the chain back, the tip drenched in the trap's green gooey blood, and threw it towards another trap. One by one, Hunter pierced the traps with his [Hellhound Chains] and carefully pruned the Venus Fly Traps.

Once they were all gone, Hunter attached the chain to the branch he stood on and used it to carefully land on the ground, pulling it back to him afterwards. He looked around him, green blood oozing practically everywhere.

[Venus Fly Traps carry a fluid that provides instant healing once consumed. The problem behind that once you consume it, you begin to hallucinate because of the toxicities]

"That's good to know. I'll grab some blood and sell it to the Hunter Guild. I'll keep some for myself, even though I'd prefer to not hallucinate once I drink this..."

Hunter grabbed his dagger, reached into his [Infinite Inventory] and carefully lifted one of the trap's mouths. After pulling out a couple of empty bottles, he used his dagger and poked the trap's gums, allowing the blood to flow from the teeth and into the bottles.

[You have recieved 20 Healing Trap Bottles]

{Kill 100 Venus Fly Traps [46/100

Kill 100 Mutant Moths [000/100]

Kill 50 Giant Grasshoppers [0/50]

Kill the dungeon master [0/1]}

"I'd better find another area with these things unless I want my eyes to bleed out..."

Hunter used his [Prey Gaze] and searched for other traps. After quickly locating them, he quickly made his way towards a tree and watched them from above. Just like before, he carefully pruned the fly traps. One by one, they all turned brown and died.

{Kill 100 Venus Fly Traps [100/100]

Kill 100 Mutant Moths [000/100]

Kill 50 Giant Grasshoppers [0/50]

Kill the dungeon master [0/1]}

[Deactivating: Prey Gaze...]

Hunter took a deep breath and sat on the branch as he did. He opened his inventory and looked at the items he had.

"47 healing pots, 13 venus fangs and one vine spell . What the hell am I going to do with that?"

[The other items in your Infinite Inventory are quite valuable and all of them are collectively worth $40,200. I can discard the Vine Spell if you wish]

"What's that gonna do?" asked Hunter.

[It'll give you 3 system points]

"What are those? Can I use them to level up?"

[No, but they will come in handy once you've recieved more Black Magic spells]

"Fine then. Discard the [Vine Spell]"

[Discarding: Vine Spell...]

[Vine Spell discarded! You have received 3 system points!]

"I've only been in the dungeon for about 20 minutes and I'm already exhausted. And I can't just rest either. Eventually, a monster will find me if I'm not too careful."

[Precisely. I'd suggest killing the Giant Grasshoppers next. They usually hunt Venus Fly Traps and since you're already in the area, you might as well clear them out as well]

"Good idea. Exactly how big are those things?" Hunter asked as he stood up from the branch and looked down below.

[Approximately 7'7"]

"That's gonna be a problem. I think direct confrontation is the only way to get rid of them. What do you think?" asked Hunter as he dropped to the ground and landed in his feet, his knees slightly bending as he did.

[Close combat is the only effective and efficient way to kill a herd of Giant Grasshoppers]

"Herd?"

[They travel in groups of 5-15. They are also extremely territorial. Once they sense an outsider has entered their home, they all band together and attack at once. You should be fine though]

"I hope you're right. My agility may have increased, along with my strength, but I can't jump in without being careful first. I had to learn that the hard way..."

[You mean the time you found a horde of goblins and immediately got wasted by them in under a minute?]

"How do you go from formal language to slang like it's no big deal...?!" said Hunter as he pointed at System Rosana.

[Activating: Prey Gaze...]

Hunter felt the surge of energy course throughout his entire body and stared ahead of him. From about 120 metres away from him was a herd of Giant Grasshoppers, approximately 6 of them.

Without wasting any time, Hunter picked up his speed and immediately dashed towards the Giant Grasshoppers.

'I'll use my special skill, [Fast Break], in order to quickly get rid of atleast 3 of them at once. If I do that, I'll atleast be able to narrow them down and confuse them, giving me enough time to get multiple kills at once.'

[Unlike Venus Fly Traps, Giant Grasshoppers hunt as one. If you create a discography amongst them, they'll be in a state of confusion for atleast 10 seconds, allowing you to quickly kill them without hurting yourself]

He was now only 10 metres away from them. Hunter coated his dagger in Black Flames and used [Fast Break] to quickly decapitate the first Giant Grasshopper. In the next second, he quickly sliced the other one.

In the last second, he chopped the last grasshopper and backed away. The monsters bled and fell to the ground. Confused, the remaining Giant Grasshoppers looked at each other and began clicking their tongues, temporarily ignoring Hunter.

'Don't stop moving! Quickly cut their heads off!' Hunter said to himself as he dashed forward, leaving a trail of debris behind his footprint.

Drawing his dagger back, he cut 2 grasshoppers at the same time, leaving only one for him to kill. Once he was close enough, he raised his flaming dagger and tried stabbing the grasshopper, only for it to use its claws and arms to block it.

The Giant Grasshopper screeched, creating an unholy sound, and pushed Hunter back. Then, it charged towards him and tried slicing him with its claws. Luckily, Hunter ducked and sliced its head off from underneath him.

The grasshopper collapsed and bled out while Hunter began taking deep breaths. He wiped the sweat beneath his chin and sighed heavily.

"That was a lot tougher to deal with than the Venus Fly Traps. I think this might be my least favourite monster today..."

{Kill 100 Venus Fly Traps [100/100]

Kill 100 Mutant Moths [000/100]

Kill 50 Giant Grasshoppers [6/50]

Kill the dungeon master [0/1]}

[They are slightly tougher than Mutant Moths. But, once you've taken care of them, the moths should be nothing but a cinch]

"You say that but you're not even the one fighting. Now, let's see what I can get from these grasshoppers..." Hunter said as he crouched and began observing the corpses of the Giant Grasshoppers.
