Chapter 15 - Chapter 14: Enemies

After a brief but intense argument, John Jones gave in.

"You're harming our daughter, Jenny. Do you realize what you're doing?"

"I'm very clear, but what about you? Have you considered what your daughter wants?"

Unwilling to show weakness, Jenny countered John Jones, and finally, with a helpless tone, he said, "Kate, you can join in, hmm, you can be the leg."

Kate, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, angrily said, "No! I don't want to be the leg; I want to be the hand! You can't brush me off like this. I know everything, I'm not some clueless rookie, so you can't just make me the driver!"

John Jones angrily replied, "I've told you many times, in a team, everyone is equally important!"

Showing no sign of backing down, Kate retorted, "Fine, then you drive and let Kadipur take the role of the brain!"

The Indo-Pakistani Kadipur said with a wry smile, "Sorry, I have no intention of getting involved in your father-daughter sentiment, but could you consider my presence when you are arguing using me as an example?"

Kate glanced at Kadipur and said softly, "Sorry, I didn't mean that."

John Jones waved his hand in annoyance and addressed Kate, "Enough, you'll be in a group with Ross; the two of you together. You need to do his makeup to ensure he won't be recognized by cameras, then you tell him some basic rules. That's it!"

Kate protested anxiously, "Absolutely not, I refuse to be the leg or to work with him!"

"Enough! As long as I'm the head of this team, you'll have to do as I say! Either start a new team with your mother or follow my orders, it's your choice!"

John Jones seemed genuinely angry, and after hesitating, Kate reluctantly glared at Yang Yi and said with a grievance, "Fine, I'll do it. But you have to promise me a more important role next time, Dad..."

Kate acted spoiled, and John Jones said with a look of helpless acceptance, "Alright, alright, that's it for today. Everyone, go about your tasks."

The crowd all stood up and began heading towards the door, when John Jones said to Kate, "I have to step out for a moment, don't forget your responsibilities."

Everyone left, leaving only Yang Yi and Kate.

The atmosphere was somewhat awkward.

Leaving his own daughter alone with a stranger, wasn't John Jones worried? Wasn't he afraid his daughter might kill the stranger?

Yang Yi internally criticized, though he kept a straight face, and at that moment, Kate asked with a look of disdain, "Do you hate me?"

"No."

"Hypocrite, you peeped at me when I was up..."

"Stop! Watch what you say, that was an accident, I apologized, and besides, you hit me. Miss Kate, one should not be unreasonable."

Kate replied with contempt, "Pretending to not hate me when you clearly do, how hypocritical, you're both inept and hypocritical."

Yang Yi was fuming, but he controlled his tone and said, "For someone as physically adept as a violence fanatic, it's normal to be simple-minded, so I forgive your ignorance and rudeness."

Kate, white with anger, hissed, "How dare you say I'm simple-minded? Where do you get the confidence... ugh, waste of space."

Kate turned her head away, no longer looking at Yang Yi, and muttered to herself, "Wasting my time on a useless wretch is just that, a waste of time. But I have to obey my father's orders, so from now on, you just listen to me."

Yang Yi had many ways to provoke Kate without cursing, but in the end, he decided to hold back since he needed this learning opportunity. It was not wise to argue with a woman who could beat him up.

So, Yang Yi chose to keep quiet, as there's no benefit to engaging with a biased, violent woman.

Kate exhaled, looked at Yang Yi with the arrogance of a victor, but still disdainfully said, "If you have anything to ask, go ahead. I still have things to do. This is my first time participating in an actual operation, and I don't want you to ruin my first time."

Yang Yi took a few deep breaths before finally mustering patience and asked, "What are hands and legs, what are the specific tasks of the people today, and what is my specific task?"

"A team is like a body, Ryan and Wells are the hands, they execute the actual theft of information. My mother is the face; she's a makeup artist. Daniel is the eyes and ears; he's a hacker. Kadipur is the leg; he's responsible for transport and sometimes surveillance. Now I've become a leg too, and you're my assistant and subordinate. As for my father, he's naturally the brain, coordinating and commanding all organs."

Yang Yi breathed out and asked, "Then what can you do?"

Kate sneered, "I can do everything, and besides driving, which any random person on the street can do, what else can you do?"

In the previous two encounters, Yang Yi was completely outmatched because he genuinely couldn't answer what he was capable of besides driving.

Like a victorious general, Kate stood up with a face full of pride and said, "To be a foot, you need to do the foot's work well. Now I'm going to check the headquarters address of Egertoni Company, and then we will scout the route on site."

Yang Yi retorted with annoyance, "Why do we need to scout the route? Do we need to flee?"

Although Kate despised and loathed Yang Yi, she still answered his question.

"It's good for evacuation, or for delivering someone. Try not to leave traces that can be easily discovered later, and sometimes when an operation fails, you indeed need to be able to escape quickly. At that time, the value of a foot is evident. Although such a situation has never happened before, the preparations that must be made cannot be slighted. You're really an idiot for not understanding even this."

Endure when it is unbearably offensive, and then endure some more.

Yang Yi took a deep breath and decided to keep enduring. He then said in as calm a tone as possible, "You don't need to look it up online. I know where the Egertoni Company's address is."

"You know? Good, then let's go. But first, we need to buy some stuff to disguise that nauseating face of yours."

Yang Yi really was at the end of his tether and snapped, "Can you speak without making personal attacks?"

Kate said with a giggling smile, "I'd like to see you try and attack me."

Yang Yi gritted his teeth, then suddenly said, "You definitely don't have a boyfriend."

"What's it to you, hmm."

"Because you have a bad figure, short legs, no taste in clothes, and a sharp tongue with a detestable face! That's why you definitely don't have a boyfriend."

Kate was about 165 centimeters tall; this height can't be considered tall but definitely not short, and her figure was proportionate with good leg length, though it wasn't too obvious due to her sportswear— it was just that Yang Yi remembered Xiao Ran's long legs and inadvertently ended up mentioning Kate's features as faults.

For a woman, whether or not there is a flaw in a particular part of her body isn't important; what counts is what others say about it.

Kate's eyes widened as she clenched her fists.

Yang Yi immediately said, "Look at you, getting furious because you are embarrassed, ha."

Kate took a deep breath, slowly unclenched her fists, then smiled at Yang Yi and said, "You girly pretty boy, now I get your taste. You're not only ignorant; you've even got problems with your eyesight. Also, forget about ever being able to touch a beauty of my level. You've got no chance."

Kate walked toward the door with an air of composure and then casually said, "Poor guy, follow me. Just don't interfere with my work, so you'd better do everything as I say."

Yang Yi sighed exasperatedly but still ended up following her.

There was a red mini parked at the door; Kate stood beside it, took out the car keys from her pocket, and shook them in front of Yang Yi's face with a look of disdain, saying, "Go drive now. If you can't even drive well, you'll know what's in store for you."

Not letting emotions affect major issues, Yang Yi adjusted the seat, gripped the steering wheel, took a breath, abandoned the thought of committing traffic violations first, and slowly merged into the traffic.

As they drove past a sportswear specialty store, Kate said suddenly, "Pull over, find a parking spot, then come find me in the store."

Without asking why, Yang Yi took quite some time to find a parking spot and went to the store. There, in the store waiting for him, Kate already had a pile of clothes laid out.

"Go change into the clothes and shoes."

Yang Yi held back from speaking and went to the changing room to put on the clothes.

Baggy sports pants, an oversized hoodie, a dazzling, flamboyant hat, and a pair of red sneakers—dressed in these, he looked like a hip-hop artist.

Emerging from the changing room without saying a word, Kate promptly twisted his hat askew and nodded, "You look decent now. Pay up, and let's go."

After packing up his old clothes and wearing the new outfit, Yang Yi followed Kate out the door. He finally couldn't help but say, "Is it necessary to change clothes just to scout a route?"

Kate said expressionlessly, "Some things might seem meaningless, but that doesn't mean they truly are without purpose. If the operation ends smoothly, then all the preparatory work will seem unnecessary. But if the operation fails and you face the possibility of being captured, you will be grateful that you didn't leave any clues. I don't want to tell you this, but in order not to let you drag down others, you'd better remember and do as I say."

Despite his dissatisfaction with Kate's attitude, Yang Yi understood that knowledge and experience accumulate in these seemingly insignificant details. He let out a sigh and said softly, "I got it, thanks."

Kate glanced at Yang Yi and then whispered, "Now, we're going to Egertoni Company's vicinity to go over all the routes."
