Although Yang Yi wasn't related to John Jones and had known him for only a short few weeks, John Jones was his guide, his future mentor.
Even setting aside all interests, Yang Yi couldn't possibly remain indifferent to John Jones's death after the days they had spent together.
Yang Yi was just as astonished, just as panicked, but certain traits allowed him to think more clearly in times of increasing danger.
The most reasonable and urgent choice was to immediately call for an ambulance; there might still be hope for John Jones, but Yang Yi didn't want to do that. It wasn't that he was willing to give up that last glimmer of hope, but he felt there was something more important to do right now.
Yang Yi believed John Jones had been killed, and if John Jones had been murdered, then weren't he and Kate also in danger, being in the same house?
The key point was, Yang Yi didn't think there was any hope left for a murdered John Jones to survive.
Kate was panicking because her father was the one who had died, but Yang Yi wasn't panicking, and he couldn't afford to panic.
Seeing Kate standing still in shock, Yang Yi pulled at her again and said in a low voice, "Get out of here, go outside to call the ambulance, quick!"
Kate's trembling voice said, "What are you talking about, what nonsense are you spouting!"
Kate bent down beside John Jones, frantically dialing on her phone while laying John Jones down on the couch, then she screamed, "Call 911, I need to perform CPR on him!"
Yang Yi ignored Kate, his gaze sweeping the living room, he muttered, "No, not like this! Something's not right..."
Kate was furious, and Yang Yi suddenly looked up at her and said urgently, "We didn't encounter an attack when we came in, which means the killer might not be here, but... call your mother! Quick! Your dad is already dead, call your mom now!"
Kate calmed down from her panic and anger—after all, she didn't grow up in an ordinary family, so she quickly realized the importance of what Yang Yi was saying.
Kate immediately hung up the emergency call and dialed Jenny, her mother.
John Jones and Jenny had divorced, yet they maintained a cooperation.
Kate's call connected, then she said with a pale face, "No answer..."
Yang Yi held his forehead with his hand and then said shakily, "Call again, no, no, call Ryan, or Wells, and Daniel—everyone, right now, tell them they're in danger."
Yang Yi didn't have contact information for these people, and he thought Kate might have it, but Kate quickly said, "I don't have their numbers, I have Kadipur's number!"
"Call it! Hurry!"
Kate dialed Kadipur's number, and this time someone answered quickly. Kate said urgently, "Kadipur, I..."
Yang Yi snatched the phone from Kate and said gravely, "This is Ross, where are you?"
"I'm on the street."
"Mr. Jones had an accident, Kate and I are at home, we need someone to come help, can you notify Ryan and Wells to come too?"
"What happened to Mr. Jones? Okay, I'm coming right away! I'll call them, I'll be there soon!"
Kadipur hung up the call, and Kate snatched her phone back. While dialing her mother again, she whimpered, "Why didn't you tell him the truth? Now call the ambulance, don't just stand there like an idiot!"
Yang Yi glanced around once more, then whispered, "We have to get out of here, we must leave immediately, Kate, I'm sorry, but Mr. Jones... he's truly dead. What's important now is our safety, don't you understand? We're in danger!"
Kate put down the phone, whimpering, "My mom isn't answering... what do we do?"
Just then Kate's phone rang, and she grabbed it as if it was her salvation, but after quickly picking up, she realized it was Kadipur calling back, her face immediately reverted to a look of terror and despair.
"Kadipur..."
"I can't get a hold of Ryan and Wells, this isn't right, they wouldn't ignore my call, their mission isn't over yet, they have to stay connected... What's happening?"
Yang Yi took a deep breath and said shakily, "Give me the phone!"
Kate obediently handed the phone to Yang Yi, who took it and said softly, "Kadipur, Mr. Jones is dead and we can't reach anyone else, I think each one of us is in danger now, we need to find a place to meet up."
"What!"
"No time to explain too much now, find a safe place to meet, stay in contact!"
Yang Yi hung up the call and said to Kate in a stern voice, "Are there guns in the house, go get them. Now we go find your mother, quick!"
Kate was still somewhat dazed, but after being shouted at by Yang Yi, she snapped out of it, immediately looking towards John Jones, lying on the couch, and with tears said, "So we just leave my dad here? He needs to go to the hospital, otherwise you stay and look after dad, and I'll go to my mom."
Yang Yi spread his hands, grasping Kate's shoulders firmly, and said sternly, "Calm down, you need to be strong now, Kate, I'm sorry, but Mr. Jones's body is already cold. What's important is finding your mother, she might still be saved!"
Kate immediately said, "There are guns in the house, I know where they're hidden, I'll go get them!"

Yang Yi took another look and whispered, "Let's go together, wait for me."
Yang Yi ran to the kitchen, grabbed two chef's knives, and then handed one to Kate, whispering, "Let's search this place as quickly as possible, take what we need to take, hurry up!"
Kate took a deep breath and then, instead of taking the chef's knife handed to her by Yang Yi, she immediately rushed into John Jones's room.
What Kate did in John Jones's room was open a cabinet and then she pulled out a double-barreled shotgun.
"Here, take this!"
Seeing the shotgun Kate had brought out, Yang Yi was dumbfounded, then he whispered, "How can we carry such a big thing, do you have a handgun?"
After handing the shotgun to Yang Yi, Kate pulled out a small compartment and took out a Webley revolver.
"Here!"
With one hand holding the revolver and the other pulling out a handful of bullets, Kate was about to hand the gun to Yang Yi.
The pistol looked definitely older than John Jones, much older indeed. Yang Yi took the pistol and saw the markings on it, letting him know that it was a Webley Mark III revolver, .38 caliber, and according to the serial number, it had been manufactured in 1936.
This was indeed a pistol, but truly an antique.
Yang Yi couldn't even use a modern gun, let alone such an antique; he merely looked at it and gave up. He shook his head, whispering, "I don't know how to use this... "
"I don't use guns!"
The Webley revolver was a break-action for loading, and Kate broke open the gun, checked the cylinder for bullets, then closed it and shoved it into Yang Yi's hands, urgently saying, "Take the gun, go find my mom!"
Yang Yi put some loose bullets into his pocket and, with his right hand bearing the weighty revolver, felt much more at ease.
"I'll go upstairs to search, you keep calling your mom. We'll go grab the important stuff, money, documents, and so on."
Kate, somewhat angrily, said, "Why do we still have to do these things now, we need to be faster!"
Yang Yi again placed his hand on Kate's shoulder and whispered, "I know you're in a hurry, but trust me, this might be our last chance. If we don't take the most important things now, we may never be able to get them."
Kate looked at Yang Yi and finally nodded her head, whispering, "Okay, let's make it quick!"
Yang Yi hurried upstairs to grab his suitcase, and it took Kate less than a minute to collect her things, mainly cash, documents, and bank cards.
No one answered the phone, and Yang Yi already had a bad feeling.
There was nobody in the entire room, and when the two of them returned to John Jones's body, Kate hesitated and whispered, "Can't we really not call the police or an ambulance?"
"That's not the most urgent thing. Let's get in the car, and go to your mother's place now."
Before leaving the house, Yang Yi cautiously looked outside several times and, upon seeing that no one was around, he urged Kate to get into her car as fast as possible.
Once in the car, Yang Yi pulled out the revolver again. He looked around and whispered, "Drive."
But as the car started moving, Yang Yi was constantly observing the rear to see if anyone was following them.
Kate suddenly burst into tears while driving, then she whispered, "What on earth happened, why do you say my father was murdered, and what's wrong with my mom, why would someone want to kill them?"
Yang Yi whispered, "I hate to say it, but it's likely that someone wants to kill us, all of us."
"Why would that be…"
"I don't know."
"My father seemed very normal, no, I mean he looked like he died of a heart attack or a stroke, why do you insist he was murdered?"
Kate cried more intensely; after all, she was just a girl who had barely turned twenty.
Yang Yi sighed and whispered, "The wineglass in front of your father, the wineglass in front of him was square-rimmed with a round base, not round-rimmed with a square base."
Kate looked at Yang Yi in confusion and said with a trembling voice, "What the hell does that matter?"
Yang Yi was also quite surprised and said, "Don't you know Mr. Jones only used round-rimmed, square-based glasses and would never use square-rimmed, round-based ones? No, it's not about the shape. Your father had serious OCD. He used only his own glasses, never used ones for guests to drink from, and would never let others use his."
Kate paused, then said, "What are you talking about? My father didn't have OCD."
Yang Yi affirmed resolutely, "No, Mr. Jones had OCD, and it was quite severe. He just hid it very well. Don't you know about your father's OCD?"
