The ride to the University's dormitory for females was filled with an awkward silence between Hazel and her aunt who was driving. As Hazel had expected, her aunt was not comfortable with the whole arrangement, this was evident as she wore a huge frown on her face and was tapping her right leg on the car's floor. She did that whenever she was upset about something.
Hazel decided to soothe her aunt who looked like she was about to detach the steering wheel from the car with how hard she was gripping it.
"Aunty, I'll b-be f-fine, I c-can take care of my-myself, y-you don't h-have to-to be wor-worried about m-me."
Her aunt could only sigh quietly. It was funny how the roles had switched. She had been the one comforting her niece, but now, she was the one been comforted. She said audibly this time, before speaking in a solemn voice.
"I know you can take care of yourself..... it's just-" she couldn't find the right words to express her concern, it was just so absurd, the whole thing.
Hazel wanted to say something, but before she could open her mouth, her aunt spoke.
"We are here," she said bringing the car to a halt. Hazel turned to the window close to her and looked out of the window. The car had stopped in front of another castle-like building. Whatever nervous feeling Hazel had left, literally flew out the window, as she behold the building where she would be spending four years of her life.
She and her aunt alighted from the car and brought out her luggage, though most of it had been delivered to the University three days before.
In front of the building stood a slender looking lady in her fifties, who wore a stern expression on her face, behind her stood a young lady, who looked to be in her thirties. She looked at them and waited for them to approach her before addressing them.
"Good day, you must be Mrs Johnson?" She looked at her aunt with a questioning look and continued after her aunt nodded in affirmation "I have been informed of your arrival before hand. I'm Miss Lilly Baclay, the dorm mistress for the female dorm house and this lady here-" she turned slightly to the lady behind her before continuing the introduction "-Is Miss Elise Goulding, my assistant."
"Please, come with me as I show you to your dorm room while explaining the rules of the dorm house."
'Dorm House?' Hazel thought
'What a weird name for a dormito-'
"Do you understand, Miss snow?" Her thought was interrupted by the voice of the dorm mistress, who had said something.
"H-huh?" She looked at the woman with a questioing gaze has she had not heard what she said.
The woman looked at her with a slightly raised brow, but repeated herself, "I said no one is allowed to go in or out of the dorm house after ten at night. Curfew starts at ten. Also, no boys are allowed into the dorm house at any time of the day," she said, leading them to the hall where many students stood in groups chattering amongst themselves. They all looked at the approaching people curiously for a while, before continuing their conversations. One or two sniffed the air before looking away, some of the girls still gazed at them, at Hazel. She looked back at them before looking straight ahead when they glared at her.
The dorm mistress turned to the right, which brought them to a flight of stairs. Miss Lily ascended the stairs and they all followed suit. They soon walked past another group of students who stood in front of some doors, which were possibly dorm rooms belonging to the students. They all stopped to look at them before minding their businesses.
"Your luggage which has been earlier delivered, has been placed inside your room. I trust that your schedule has been given to you?" She asked to which Hazel and her aunt nodded in the affirmative, "Good." She didn't say anything after that.
Miss Lily soon halted in front of a door then turned to Hazel and handed her a key, probably the key to the door which she had halted in front of.
"This is your dorm room, Miss Hazel. Do take note of the rules, because only then will you experience a smooth, trouble-free stay in this University. Then, I shall take my leave," she turned to her aunt and bowed slightly, before saying, "Do have a safe travel back home, Mrs Johnson." And with that, she turned and walked away from there, with the young lady, who had been quiet time whole time, following closely behind her.
