Chapter 8 - STUDENT IN BLACK

A group of six students walked elegantly into the Dining Hall, like they owned the place.

Hazel stared at them for a while before noticing that the whole Dining Hall had been thrown into a deafening silence. It was as if they were paying a silent homage to the group that had just walked in. They were all very eye catching and they carried an air of nobility with them as they made their way to the table that had long been vacated by the students, who had earlier occupied it, when they noticed that the group was heading their way.

The Dining Hall was no different from a graveyard, it was as if the students present in the Hall were holding their breath.

Immediately the group had their seats, sighs were released from every table in the Dining Hall.

'What's happening?' She thought as she looked round the Cafeteria. The whole Dining Hall continued to remain dead silent , it looked as if the students were all under a spell. She noticed that most of the students were staring at the group that had just walked in, with both fear and administration.

She was confused, though she was not the only confused one in the Dining Hall has some students that were freshman like herself, were also wondering what had happened.

One minute the Dining Hall was lively and another, it became completely quiet, as if the angel or rather angels of death had walked into the Dining Hall.

'What is it? What's happening?' She couldn't fathom what was going on.

And just then, one of the students stood up with a grin on his face and addressed the students that had suddenly quiet down.

"Ah, seems like we've got a lot of freh bloods this year." He said, while looking round the Cafeteria, with a silly grin on his face, he was about to continue with what he was saying when he was slapped on the arm by one of the girls in the group. "Ouch... What was that for?" She gave him a look as if communicating with her eyes.

"What? It's not like they understand what I'm saying, anyways," he said with a wave of his hand, the silly grin back on his face. "With that been said, you can all go back to your food." He said, then took his seat.

And as if the spell had been broken, the students went back to what they were all doing, but many still casted curious glances at them and Hazel was one of them. She could only see just four of the students from where she sat, the other two had their backs facing her.

'They must be seniors' she thought.

They also seemed to command the respect of the other students. Three of the six students stood up and went to join the queue of students who immediately made way for them. They bought their meal and went back to their table.

"Who are they", Hazel thought aloud, as she continued to sip her tea that had become lukewarm, while staring curiously at the students that were in her line of sight, one of the students was the one that had spoken earlier. They were somewhat different from the other students around, there was just something about them that she could not place her hands on, something odd. Most of the students looked at them with cautious yet, admiring eyes. 'Most' because some still looked at them with animosity in their eyes.

The table they were occupying had ten chairs, yet, the six of them were the only ones seated, no one dare joined their table.

They were all dressed in colourful clothes, save for one who was cladded in black.

As she continued to stare at the students, she noticed that they were all talking in not too loud voices, unlike the other students, not that she could hear what they were saying as the dining hall had once again become very noisy with the sounds of chattering, laughter, giggles and the clatter of spoons and forks on plates, which was coming from every table in the Dining hall.

Hazel glanced at her wrist watch, she still had about thirty minutes before her classes started. She glanced at the students at her table, they hadn't bothered to start a conversation with her, not that it would make a difference as she would not bother talking to them and make a fool of herself.

She glanced back at the group of sx students, sitted some tables away from her's, they all looked eye catching, even from a distant.

They all looked elegant, she noticed the loads of food each of them had on their plates. The group was made up of a total of three males and three females. Two of the boys and two of the girls were in her line of sight and they looked pleasing to the eyes that she could not help but stare at them. And she had no doubts that other two would be just as beautiful.

She finished her food and began to head out of the door, wanting to get to the lecture room twenty minutes before the classes began, so as to secure a front seat.

And just before she went past the huge doors of the cafeteria, Hazel turned back to cast a final glance at the table of the six students, who had caused a bit of drama earlier and caught a glimpse of the student in black.
