***

"What a boring life."

Mark Brynn looked outside the bus window with a sigh. His eyes look empty, as if he has no human emotion. He doesn't feel anything except emptiness.

Fear, excitement, sadness, happiness, and a sense of achievement all became dull.

He starts remembering the start of his boring life.

When he was 10 years old, he suddenly discovered that he had become extremely lucky.

It was an extreme luck that whenever he needed something, it would naturally come to him.

If he needed money, he would find one on the ground, if he was hungry, a pie would fall from the sky, in short, he got all he wanted.

But what is this sense of emptiness? Others may say that his never-ending luck is a blessing, but to him, it's a curse that prevents him from feeling like a normal human.

Any achievement he gets will feel empty, knowing that he didn't achieve it by himself but due to his luck.

The feeling of wanting to achieve something became meaningless as he could achieve it easily due to his luck.

Everything became meaningless in front of his eyes. Life's purpose of survival became a joke to him.

Due to this, he tried harming himself to test the limit of his luck, but it all failed.

Jumping from a building, he landed on a safe cushion that was put there accidentally.

Intentionally drowning, she was rescued by a professional swimmer who was passing by.

Cutting himself, but the knife broke before he even touched it.

Poison doesn't work because he accidentally bought a fake one.

It's funny because the only thing he couldn't achieve was death. In the end, it seems that his luck is not willing to harm him.

Slowly, the desire to die became extreme, but he gave up all suicide attempts. After 1,737 attempts, he stopped. So he just lived his life full of emptiness.

Buying a lottery ticket and winning so he can get rich is one thing. Getting a beautiful girlfriend isn't bad.

His never-ending luck continued, and here he is now, a 20-year-old man with no ambition in life. Everything he dreamed of became meaningless if he could achieve it easily. (Except death, of course.)

"Sigh. I wish for something fun."

Mark sighs under his breath while looking out the window. As he thinks of something, his phone suddenly vibrates. He takes the phone and checks it.

He received an email from an unknown sender, it feels ominous.

A notification in his email says,

...

[Death game invitation! You're invited to the death game; you can accept or decline the offer.

Q: What is the death game?

A: As the name itself suggests, it's a game where you can die if you're not careful!

Q: Does it have a reward?

A: Of course! wealth, strength, and beauty! everything's here!

Want to accept the invitation?

(Yes) (No)]

...

Mark scratched his head. He thought that it's a scam, but then again, he remembered that he never ever received or encountered any scam because of his luck.

The mail might actually be true. He got interested in the death game. He thought,

'Since life's so boring, why not join?'

Mark, with no hesitation, clicked the confirmation button. After that, time suddenly stopped, and a black hole appeared beside Mark.

It swallowed him and disappeared. Time resumes again as if nothing happened.

...

[Wake up, players!]

Mark's consciousness returned, and he began looking around. He instantly recognized the surroundings, it's a classroom, but with a big difference.

'The classroom is stretched up to 50 meters; it's like a hallway.'

Mark estimates.

He also noticed that at the end of the classroom, there was a small female doll. Wearing a school uniform, but it is a little bloody.

Mark also noticed some people lying on the ground, and some were already awake, just staying quiet.

[Wake up, players!]

A loud voice rang out of nowhere, so vague that you couldn't tell if it was male or female. At this point, everyone woke up slowly, holding their heads in pain.

Mark raised his eyebrows, he didn't feel pain when he went here. He just shrugs, as if it's not his problem.

When everyone is awake, the voice rings again.

[Welcome to the tutorial, players!]

Everyone except me looked panicked, some were even shouting and complaining.

"Where am I!?"

"Did you kidnap me!??"

"Who are you?!"

Many complaints rang out, but the voice kept silent until

[Didn't you accept the invitation? And now you're panicking?]

The voice said it with a hint of coldness and mockery. The atmosphere quickly became cold.

People instantly became silent, they did accept the invitation, but they never would've thought that it was real.

They don't dare to complain anymore because the voice sounded so scary that it sent fear to their spines.

The chilling atmosphere continued until someone clapped their hands. The clap rang in the quiet classroom, and everyone looked in the direction of the sound.

They saw a man with black hair, a fine face, and a fit body, but what's outstanding is his overwhelming calm and his black eyes, which looked like an endless abyss that swallowed all light.

"Enough chatter, so what are this game's rules?"

Mark stopped what he was doing and said it with a calm voice.

He knew that this was a game, so there must be rules to play and complete it.

Mark was really impatient ever since he got here, and he wanted to start immediately. The death game really piqued his interest.

Meanwhile, outside the classroom, on the monitor, a woman looked at her screen with a dumbfounded face.

"Ahem."

But she quickly regained her senses and immediately talked, even though she was angry, it didn't break any rules in the game, so she couldn't do anything but answer.

[The rules are simple.]

In the classroom, the voice rang again, and everyone listened carefully.

The voice continued,

[To win this game, you just need to reach the other end of the classroom, toward that doll over there.]

Upon saying that, almost everyone looked at the end of the classroom; there was a doll sitting on a desk.

If you look carefully, you can see that there is a red line on the ground, indicating that it's the finish line.

"Ah! Screw it!"

A man ran immediately toward the doll, however, before he could even react, the doll's eyes glowed with violet light and she shot out a laser that exploded in his head.

Blood splashed, flesh splattered, and the body became headless.

His body went limp and collapsed quickly. Everyone looked at this scene with wide eyes, they froze in fear, and some even vomited because of how gruesome it was.

Only Mark looked at the scene with an excited look.

Don't get me wrong.

He's not a maniac who feels excited about others's deaths, but because he tried countless times to die.

His desire to die is higher than his desire to live. He tried countless ways to die, but they all failed due to his overwhelming luck.

Upon seeing the man's head explode, Mark got excited and wanted to try it by himself.

Mark took a long breath and calmed himself. He's not in a hurry to try, as long as he enjoys the game, he won't do irrational things.

It'd be a pity to die right now if you can't enjoy the game. The only reason he wanted to die was because his life is so boring.

If there was fun, he wouldn't want to die.
