It all started with a girl crying out, she was crying and yelling out for help, but no one could hear her. It was the middle of the night in the woods and someone was chasing her with a knife.
Her clothes were all ripped up and bloody from the tree branches and the many times she had fallen over tree trunks and roots. It was useless for her to use all of her energy when no one could save her.
It was already too late for her.
And the person with the knife in their hand was a few steps ahead of her. The killer steps up to the perfect trap and finally kills her. They crouched down behind a tree when they heard the girl coming close.
This was way too easy, the killer thought to themselves. A sly smirk played at their lips, they tugged on the wire making the girl trip and fall onto her knees and they sprung out and straddled her, turning her over.
"Why are you doing this?" she said, tears streaming down her face. "I-I thought we were friends?"
The killer shook their head. "No. You fucked me over way too many times, Paige. And it's time for you to pay," he explained.
"I-I didn't mean to." She choked on a sob. "It was all a misunderstanding. I didn't mean to. Please—" She cried out.
"It's too late to apologize now," they said.
And in one swift motion, they plunged the knife into her chest and a piercing scream echoed in the forest. Birds fled from the trees.
The stabs kept going into her body and blood pooled out of her wounds. She tried to fight back but it was no use. In minutes, she was dead. Her eyes were wide with horror. It was all over and the killer panted heavily, getting up and looking down at her.
They loved the chase. It was a thrill for them. And they couldn't get enough of it.
They looked around the forest, grabbed the wire from the tree, and stuffed it in their pocket, walking away from Paige.
A week has passed since Paige Warren's death. Nobody couldn't understand why anyone would murder her like that. It was crazy. Everyone was talking about it in school and they felt for the Warren family.
"I still can't believe that there's been a murder and no one has caught the killer who did this," said Phoebe Jenkins, one of Paige's classmates. "I wonder who could have killed her. I mean, this killer hasn't left a clue or anything behind since the police found her body in the woods."
A soft sigh left Piper Brown's lips. "I know. It's freaking me out that the police don't have any leads on who could have done it. It's freaking everyone out in town."
"Who do you think could have done this to her?" Phoebe asked, her eyes full of concern as she looked at her best friend. "It could be someone close to her. Right?"
"I mean, it could be but we don't know." She shrugged, looking down at the ground. "Everyone is saying that it could be..."
Phoebe raised an eyebrow for her to continue but after a few seconds of not saying anything. "It could be...what? Spill."
Piper looked up and sighed, she was afraid to even say it out loud. "Everyone is saying that it's a serial killer. Or a cult. What if..." she sighed, "what if one of us is next? I don't want this killer to come after me. Or you. Or anyone else for that matter."
Phoebe's face softened a bit, placing a hand on her shoulder, and squeezing her shoulder. "Hey, this killer won't be coming after you or me," she said softly, giving her a soft, sad smile. "But I have to go. My parents are making me have a movie night with them."
She grabbed her things and quickly hugged her best friend before leaving the house.
As soon as Piper was alone, her phone started going off, notifying her that an incoming text was coming. She picked it up and unlocked her phone, reading the text message.
It was from an unsaved number that she didn't recognize.
I know what you did last summer. I promise not to tell your BFF what you did with a CERTAIN someone. If you don't want this information to get to your BFF, I need you to do something for me. I'll leave you instructions as soon as possible. XOXO, The Killer
A soft gasp left Piper's lips, she looked up and immediately got up from her bed, closing the door and locking it.
How the fuck did the killer know about what happened? Was this the same killer that killed Paige? Why her? It was a one-time thing, and no one was supposed to know about this. No one was around when they did that. They were alone.
Were they though?
