Chapter 8 - chapter 8

"How did you get to the warehouse?". James interrupted.

There was a moment of silence In the room as Anne looked away after she heard the question.

"I do not like to repeat myself. I can't tolerate finding a dead person at my house".

"Perhaps if you had agreed to let me go, none of these would have happened". She blurted out.

"I gave you a decent job ma'am! He mocked. Your job begins and ends at Sophia's room, so what link does it have with the warehouse".

"I want to go back to my mother and friend". She said, ignoring the question.

"Okay!". He clapped his hands in agreement while Anne faced him in excitement.

"Perhaps I think you have the 150000 dollars ready, so meet my cashier on the second floor and make the payment". He scoffed as he was about to make his way out.

"No! Please…please…I". She stuttered. I didn't mean it that way sir". She begged and got up to her feets.

"I refuse. You've got no other option for being such an ingrate. I paid your bills and still gave you a job….

"I'm so sorry sir, please forgive me". She begged, falling to her knees.

He darted his eyes towards her and watched her plead to his satisfaction.

"Now tell me, what were you doing at the warehouse?". He asked again.

"Sophia's mother. She asked me to clean it up".

"Did you inform her about ur health?".

"Yes I did. But she was adamant about it and insisted I do exactly what she said".

"Return back to ur duty, once you fit in". He ordered.

"I will".

James stormed out of the room in range. His ex wife was really pissing him off with her attitude. This was one of the reasons they got divorced. She had no respect towards the poor or middle class.

"Amanda!". He yelled, as he got to the sitting room.

"Call me with respect darling. We have workers around, remember?". She chuckled.

"You almost killed a staff member today and you're nonchalant about it huh?".

"Kill someone? She laughed. You mean her? That thing?

A resounding slap landed on Amanda's face as she screamed in pain. James was in shock as he realized what he had just done.

"You hit me? You slapped me?". She screams and holds James by his collar.

"If that will change your ways, then I don't regret it". He pushes her and walks away.

"Jamesss". She cried.

The rest of the day went silently. Some of the staff murmured about the incident while the others minded their business, especially the old staff members, who had witnessed more drama before now.

Anne was still helping Sophia with her puzzle when a staff member walked in.

"Good day".

"Good day". Anne responded.

"Mr James calls for you". The staff said.

"What? Why?''. She asked immediately and wore a frown.

"That should be the first question to ask him, when you get there". She rudely replied and walked away.

"Why does everyone seem to have an attitude in this house". Anne murmured.

"What did you say?". Sophia inquired.

"Nothing! Just face your work". Anne responded. What does he want this time?

She sighed heavily as she got to her feets.

Anne placed a soft knock on his door, while she darted her eyes, surveying the beauty of the environment.

The slides opened while she stood still, astonished.

"Are you coming in or not?". James' voice thundered from inside.

She hurriedly walked in and the door closed by itself. She sees a remote control in his hands and feels relieved.

"You called for me". She said, breaking the silence.

"Get yourself and Sophia ready, we are leaving for a family event tonight".

Oh…okay sir". She stuttered, unsatisfied with the idea that she is going with them, as she turns around to leave.

"You're not going with us as her nanny but as my fiance". He blurted out.

"What?". Sophia exclaimed in shock.

"You heard me. This should fund your dress and so on". He points at a bundle of cash laying on his desk.

"But…sir, you asked me not to do anything apart from being Sophia's Nanny".

"I asked you to only take instructions from me". He corrected her.

"I..I can't

"If it's too much to do. Please do not forget to visit my cashier on your way out". He said and faced the book he was reading.

Anne walks out of his office and stamps her legs on the floor.

"As his fiancee! Oh my goodness, this is not happening". She cried.

She pants around her room as she watches the clock tick. She was still finding it difficult to fit in as Sophia's Nanny and now his fiancee.

"It's just a day right? It's just today and it's over. Eun! Eun! She exhaled as she found her phone.

"Hey girl! Eun calls as she answers the phone".

"Damn girl, my head is spinning".

"Anne, are you okay". Eun asked, noticing her tone.

"Fiancee! He wants me to pose as his fiancee, Eun".

"What? That's unpredictable". Eun exclaimed in disbelief.

"I'm not joking. He gave me some bundles to get a dress and the rest".

"How many?". Eun giggled.

"Four".

"What? That's a whole forty thousand dollars, Anne. Get ready girl, let's go do some spendings".

"Are you even listening to me huh? His ex wife almost killed me twice and now I am disguising myself to be his fiance at his family event when I'm still finding it difficult to tolerate everyone's attitude around here!". She sobbed.

"Come on girl! Who cares if no one likes you. This is a big opportunity to find yourself a future. Do you know how wealthy Hathaway is? Do not be an ignorant girl and for his ex-wife, she's just being jealous and give her no room okay!

"Got it! After this, I'm out of here. Now, how do I get a dress?".

"Oh! That's my girl talking. I'll use my credit card and get you everything you'll need. When I come to dispatch, you'll give me the cash".
