Nolan got home around 11:00 pm, he opened the front door and walked directly to the refrigerator to grab some cold water.
He gulped down some and dropped his keys on the table, the blue light from the chandelier was the only light on since every other light had been put off before his parent went to sleep.
He sat down on a chair and put his hands on the table.
"I am leaving now Nolan…"
The way she had tilted her head made her brunette fall beautifully and a pretty smile appeared on her lips while saying her goodbyes to him got stuck in his mind.
This feeling he had carried in his mind since he had laid his eyes on Nancy drives him crazy, he has never felt the way he did, and that scares him.
His hand was on his head while his head was down when Mrs. Cole walked in and saw his son.
"Nolan? Are you okay?", she said.
He looked up and saw his mother approaching him.
"Yes of course Mom… why are you not sleeping? You should be getting your rest", he worriedly said while looking at his mom.
She was in her sleeping robe and her arms wrapped around her.
"How could I sleep when my son is not back yet, I have to make sure you are back", she answered and immediately felt something was wrong with her son, she could always tell.
"What about Tara?", he asked.
"She got home a few minutes ago, super drunk… I bet she is sleeping right now", the woman answered.
Nolan looked away and nodded.
"You should go to bed Mom, you must be so tired, I will go to my room soon", Nolan added, he looked up and saw his mom's worried eyes on him.
"What?", he smiled.
The woman sat down opposite him, "What is wrong Nolan? You have not been talking to me these days... You used to tell me about everything but now things have changed, is something bothering you? I can feel it", she asked.
Nolan knew there was no way around it, his expression had sold him out to his mom.
"I am not a child anymore, you cannot know everything anymore… I will be 18 soon", he said smiling at his mom.
She scoffed and glanced away.
"I am scared this day would come when my sweet boy would say he is all grown and would not tell me things…", she said.
"It is nothing mom… I just…", he paused, feeling reluctant but he knew it was his mom, one of the most important people in his life that would never judge him, and apart from that he needed to let it out.
The woman focused her gaze on her son.
Nolan exhaled deeply.
"There is this girl…", he said and looked up at his mom, "not the ones you know".
He continued.
"This one is different… she is different, I don't know how to explain this but I really don't understand why I kept seeing her when I didn't think she would be there, even in my mind, she kept coming in and would not leave, this had happened for weeks now, ever since I set my eyes on her… it is strange mom, I have never felt this way about anyone… I have never even looked at a girl twice but I find myself wanting to see her, going where I know she might be".
The woman watched and listened to her son carefully, she smiled, and gradually her eyes filled with tears.
She never thought this day would come when Nolan would talk about the girl he likes to her.
The woman chuckled excitedly and wiped the tears that were about to drop, she chuckled again and saw her son's eyes on hers.
"Nolan… this is so beautiful, just the way you spoke about her is so beautiful my dear", she said and reached for his hands.
"I think you like this girl very much Nolan and judging from what you said, it was love at first sight, your first love", she added.
Nolan stared at her mom and quickly took his hand from her.
"Love at first sight", he repeated and remembered when he googled his feelings and how he had gotten the same response from Google.
"It is okay to feel this way Nolan, you not feeling like this with everyone and just this girl shows how real and genuine it is… embrace it, and don't ignore your feelings… it is such a beautiful thing", she advised.
Nolan stared at her mom for a second, he got up and rubbed his hand at the back of his neck.
"Let us go sleep now Mom, it is so late and you are going to work tomorrow… don't want you to get up tired", Nolan said while helping his mother up.
"But I wanna talk more about her, what is her name?", the woman curiously asked as Nolan gently pushed her toward her room while smiling.
"Another day, I need to sleep mon", he said.
"Fine…", she accepted and gave him a kiss on the cheeks before walking in.
Nolan sighed softly, he walked into his room and shut the door behind him.
"Love at first sight…", he whispered and immediately shook his head off the thought.
He lay on his bed and closed his eyes, but the more he tried focusing on sleeping, the more Nancy's smile and how perfect her lips would not stop appearing in his mind, he changed his sleeping position to stop this thought from coming but it would not stop.
"Embrace it and don't ignore your feelings",
His mother's words seeped into his ear again, Nolan grunted and opened his eyes.
He gave up and grabbed his phone.
And almost the instant he scrolled through a few videos on Instagram trying to get his mind off her. He got an unexpected text that popped up on his phone.
"Hey Nolan, You asleep?".
He quickly sat up after getting the text from Nancy, his heart beating fast as he stared down at her first text to him.
"I really can't get her off my mind".
