Chapter 7 - Failed mission

Picking up his phone, the assassin who had been hired dialed Drake's number.

Sadly, he informed Drake of the failed mission before ending their call.

Aimlessly and full of regret, Drake is spotted reclining on his office couch with an air of helplessness. "This should've been simple," he muses to himself before rhetorically pondering the identity of the man in question.

As he pondered, "How can I ask Andy about her move in a graceful manner?" He grabbed his phone and promptly dialed her number. However, after several rings with no response from the other end of the line, he received a message stating: "Why are you trying to call me? Don't you know that I am currently spending time with my boyfriend."

"Ah!" he exclaimed in a loud tone. "He must have been her boyfriend," he pondered.

"We simply need to come up with a new strategy, it shouldn't be difficult. It's not like he can stay with her forever," he vocalized.

Stephanie was in her office, industriously working when Claire stormed in with a look of fury on her face. She plonked herself down and Stephanie regarded her warily before asking, "Is everything okay? I don't recall you dropping by my workspace previously."

He gave Stephanie a dirty look and informed her, "Your husband contacted me."

"Why did you block him after he has been taking care of your child for two years? He even contacted me to express his regret in paying for your education here in Texas. You have completely abandoned him, and this is a brutal move."

Stephanie spoke in fear, "Please lower your voice."

"I conversed with my son yesterday, but his father is constantly bothering me. Despite informing him of my busy schedule, he won't release me from his grip," she declared resolutely as Claire's astonishment was disregarded. "I regret giving him your information the other day; he relentlessly insisted on knowing one of my companions." She spoke without remorse.

Claire was shocked when she said, "Are you even listening to yourself? You're discussing your partner and offspring. They are the only family you have."

"Ma'am, did you come here for this reason? If so, feel free to leave through the door. I cannot entertain someone who lacks any family or guidance and can't offer me anything."

Stephanie responded.

"Your husband will definitely be receiving feedback from me," Claire stated as she left.

Aggressively, Claire slammed the door of the office.

Stephanie said that she almost gave an invitation to her wedding but is relieved that she didn't because the person would have destroyed her marriage.

In the later part of the day.

Drake made plans to rendezvous with the assassin he hired and discuss a new plan of action. At the busy bar, Drake orders two drinks containing alcohol as they wait in anticipation for their companion's arrival. Having shown up promptly, Drake sits on a stool at the bar observing how time passes by while periodically checking their watch and drinking slowly to occupy themselves until then. With every newcomer who walks past them through the entrance door causing excitement in those waiting eagerly, Drake hopes it might be his late partner-in-crime finally arriving.

As the drake loses his patience, every minute seems like an eternity. He toys with his phone to see if there are any messages or notifications and even sends a reminder to the assassin he hired asking about their whereabouts. Anxiety claws at him as he contemplates whether something unforeseen has delayed their friend's arrival.

The assassin for hire arrived after an extended period of time. "Why did it take you so long? We agreed to meet at 5 pm," he inquired.

"Please don't be upset. I became preoccupied with some pressing matters that required immediate attention."

The assassin who was employed stated.

Drake inquired, "What is the strategy?"

"The task won't run smoothly until he arrives, so we must release him and wait," uttered the hired killer.

"I am eagerly waiting! What if he has arrived for a long-term stay?"

Drake proposed that I summon her to meet me at a secluded location where you'll be waiting. Once she's there, incapacitate her and then end her life.

Expressing concern, the hired killer stated that disposing of her body would pose a challenge and draw attention to her absence. The only safe place is among the bushes where cameras can't catch them.

Drake admitted, "That's true. You make a valid point."

Drake proposed, "I'll send her a text and inquire about the departure of her boyfriend."

The individual retrieves their phone, sends Andy a message and inquires about when they can visit her residence while avoiding an encounter with her significant other.

"He'll be gone by next week," he read aloud, receiving a response in just a few minutes.

Drake stated that it was excellent and proposed doing it the following week. He instructed to bring a gift as usual when going over to her place.

Drake's attention was captured by the screen as his phone buzzed and emitted a notification tone, signifying that there was a new message.

After glancing at his phone, he noticed a message from Andy inquiring if he had purchased anything for him.

He swiftly returned it to her with a negative response.

As their departure drew near, Drake and the hired killer shared a heartfelt hug, gripping each other tightly for a brief moment. "Complete this task swiftly," Drake murmured to his assassin ally.
