Chapter 8 - Confidentiality advisor

The wedding plans began early as the venue and other decisions were made. Stephanie came to visit Drake on a weekend, then her mother-in-law brought the wedding planner home to discuss some things. Stephanie comes to visit Drake to spend time with him. Stephanie walks into the living room as it is a passage to Drake's room.

"My daughter, you came at the right time. The wedding planner and I were just talking about the venue. It's the biggest event center in Texas, I'm sure you would have gone there before since your parents are influential". Drake's mom said

"Yes sure, I've been there" she lied

"By the way, I need to see your parents one more time before the wedding". Drake's mom said with a broad smile.

"I've only seen them once, it will be nice to host them again so I'm telling you invite them to a three-day trip I'm going to be organizing" she continued

"They are out of the country for business purposes" she lied again. How could I possibly tell her who my real parents are? She thought

"Tell them I requested to see them. Nothing should be more important to them than you." she said possessively

"I sure will" Stephanie replied

"What have I done? How do I go about this?

"This man is so busy. My real parents are in Africa and are not influential besides they know I'm married they won't accept this second marriage. What should I do?

I need to see an online adviser to share my problems with.

Someone needs to hear this, they are the confidentiality advisors. Yes, I need to talk to them" she thought

**************

Within a short while she got a confidentiality advisor to speak to. Stephanie's fingers trembled as she dialed the unknown number, seeking solace in the anonymity of a confidentiality advisor.

"Hello good day, I'm your confidentiality advisor for now. Could you please say your gender if you're not comfortable sharing your problems with the opposite gender. How can I help you?"the confidentiality advisor said

"I got to the U.S a few months ago and needed to fend for myself and my family in another country without completing the payment of my Masters degree. I met my boss at an event where I went as a server for influential people. I got to know he's rich and has a company. I kept pressuring to help me but he didn't for some months, only for me to get a text message from him on a particular night to drop my cv off at his work. I thought my prayers had been answered only to discover my exploitative boss was cheating me. He paid me below the minimum wage and gave me half of everything I deserved as the role of a finance manager at his company. I spoke to a friend about it and she said I should sue him and his company to get compensation but I wasn't ready to do so. A few months later, I met a billionaire. We met on social media and talked for a long time until we decided to meet." She stopped to catch a breath as the weight of her burden seemed to grow heavier.

"I knew he was the son of a rich man, so I had to disguise myself as I knew it would be a blockbuster to my life of freedom from poverty. During our online conversation, my boyfriend kept emphasizing on the fact that he couldn't marry a poor girl and how much he dislikes paupers. I decided to dress my best for him. Sooner than later, my rich boyfriend fell in love with me". She paused. "Knowing my inner intention, I was happier than ever when my rich boyfriend proposed to me. I decided to keep it secret, away from my closest friend in order not to get into unforeseen trouble. I reduced the way I converse with my friend so as to avoid spilling out unnecessary information. I then decided to neglect my husband and son as they kept calling me to come back home because they didn't buy the lie I sold to them telling them I'm trying to get a U.S citizenship so they can all move into the U.S. I blocked my husband from calling me but still sent them money frequently.

It was time for my rich boyfriend's parents to meet my parents. I'm a black Canadian, I had no family in the U.S, my parents are retired doctors and they are home in Africa.

After a long thought I then decided to speak to the C.E.O of my workplace to threaten him and act like my father.

Weighing the two options between a huge fine for violation of minimum wage requirement and still continuing the underpayment or pretending to be my father once, The C.E.O decided to pretend to be my father as it was cost effective and reporting to authorities will ruin the brand reputation.

I hired a pensioner to be my mother. The meeting between both parents went well as it was planned properly. I fooled the billionaires easily.

My husband who lives in Canada sent me to have my masters degree done in the U.S so I can come back to Canada to earn more money as a masters degree holder.

I've abandoned my family for a while to marry my rich boyfriend because of his money. I plan to elope back to Canada with the majority of my rich boyfriend's family money between three to six months after their marriage to settle down with my family."

The confidentiality advisor listened in stunning silence, barely able to conceal her disbelief "If I heard you clearly you're trying to dupe a rich man?" the confidentiality advisor asked to be sure

"Not really" Stephanie said with a firm voice of disapproval

" I simply advise that no matter how long you may try to hide the truth, it will surely be revealed soon which may result in bigger issues." she said firmly

"I don't need your advice, I just needed someone to hear me out." she said angrily.

"That's fine, due to our regular protocol, calls are not recorded to make our customers feel safe and no money will be charged for this….." the confidentiality advisor said

Stephanie ended the call in anger, cutting the confidentiality advisor short. She hissed severally before laying down on her bed, "I don't even know what to do" she whispered. "I'll have to tell my boss a second time but it will be difficult for him to oblige, he has no choice" she told herself. In the quiet darkness, Stephanie whispered her conflicted thoughts, grappling with the choices laid bare by the conversation. And as sleep finally claimed her, she knew deep down that her facade of deception was unraveling, the truth poised to emerge like a reckoning tide.
