The next day, Stephanie barged into the office of the C.E.O, her urgency palpable as she disregarded his protests.
"Young lady," he screamed. "I've seen you've got no manners for me again". The C.E.O said standing up with his face flushed with anger, his voice rising to match hers.
"I need your help she said, nothing serious just a three day outing" stephanie said unfazed
"What? You must be out of your mind" he said with rage
"I'll pay you" she said, dangling the lure of payment before him, a subtle reminder of the power dynamics at play.
"I don't want your damn money. This company can't run without me." he said trying to explain to her
"What if you die? You really think the company is not going to run without you" she said with her tone indifferent as she pressed on with her request.
"I'm not going and that's final" he said affirmatively
Each word significantly shows a volley in the power struggle between them.
"Get ready to lose your company and that's final". She said with her calm assertion revealing a glimpse of her calculated manipulation. She immediately left the office banging the door loudly.
The C.E.O decided to go out for a quick coffee. In the CEO's moment of solitude, his inner turmoil unfolded like a tempest, his thoughts swirling with the gravity of Stephanie's proposition.
"I can't deny this offer, what kind of girl is this? What can I do?. I think I should quickly reply to her and ask for the date instead of making an unnecessary fuse when what will be will be. A short vacation or losing my company? A compulsory vacation I'm obviously paying for my sins."He grappled with his pride and the specter of his own mortality, a bitter pill to swallow as he contemplated the consequences of his defiance.
He thought while he sipped the coffee slowly. With a resigned sigh, he summoned courage, he surrendered to Stephanie's will, a reluctant admission of defeat in the face of her unwavering determination.
He walked up to Stephanie's at her office,
"What's the date and time ?"
"Really" Stephanie was happier than ever as she didn't think it would be that easy for him to convince him. She hurriedly went to hug her boss after he accepted. "Thank you, and I assure you your company will be fine".
She hurriedly picked up her phone to call Drake to tell his parents about the new update.
She left work to find the same pensioner that acted as her mother as she knew her house because the C.E.O dropped her off at home.
She got there around 5:30pm and pressed the bell. A young girl in her early 20s walked out to see who was knocking.
"Hi, she said," May I know you?"She asked squeezing her eyes like she's trying to remember her
"I'm looking for Mrs davis please" stephanie said
"My mom?" She asked almost in tears. "She passed on three weeks ago. Is there anything you'd like to discuss with her that you can share with me?" she continued.
Stephanioe stood there dumbfounded and speechless not knowing what to do or say.
The revelation of Mrs. Davis's passing pierced through Stephanie's facade, leaving her stranded in a sea of uncertainty.
"Miss?" The young girl said, trying to draw her attention.
"Yes, thank you". In the face of this unexpected obstacle, Stephanie's facade cracked, revealing the vulnerability beneath her calculated exterior. Her confusion and dismay echoed in the hollow silence of her departure, leaving her adrift in a whirlwind of doubt and regret.
"What is all this right now? I cant have two mothers can i? I may have to tell the billionaires she went to Africa for a vacation. Even if I want to get another mother it is going to be hard as I will have to be explaining from the beginning. Why does she even have to die?" She said in disappointment as she journeyed back home.
