Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Jeon Yeongsu

Yeongsu rummaged through the duffle bag Kitt had brought back. He wanted a weapon, but none of these would do. They were all too simplistic. He got an idea and headed off to the next train car. Messing through the already looted bags. He grabbed every movie disc, music disc, and video game discs, even if the discs were tiny. Then he grabbed at a large suitcase and yanked the handle out of it. He broke it off eventually and broke off the second prong attached to the handle. Somehow he made a weapon from broken discs and a broken suitcase handle. The handle was the single prong still attached to the plastic part. The plastic handle was now covered all around with broken discs. It looked rather dangerous and Yeongsu was proud of that. The green haired man sat in a nearby seat and closed his eyes thinking about how Kitt had snapped at Taehyun. He was surprised that it didn't make Taehyun cry. The artist was strangely sensitive and he assumed it had something to do with Taehyun's past. He didn't know too much about Taehyun's past except that his family died somehow, nor was he going to pry into it.

Flashback: Yeongsu lay on the floor of his bedroom looking up at his empty ceiling.

"Yeongsu!" His mother called from the next room over. He lazily sat himself up and then managed to drag his way out of his room.

"Yeah?" He responded as he rounded the corner at a slow pace.

"You want to go to Busan today?" She asked him when he came around the corner. He simply shook his head in response, Yeongsu didn't like going to other cities. "Sorry, but I am not giving you a choice." She patted the teen on the head as she smiled at him with sad eyes.

"What's wrong?" He questioned worriedly.

"Well.. you know my best friend? Mrs. Lee, the one with the three kids." She let out a shaky breath, "Well... I'm going to be taking care of her son from now on."

"Why?" He asked in a strange tone, not understanding well.

"Can we talk about this on the way? We have to go pick him up from the hospital." She looked at her son gently before grabbing her car keys and heading out of the house, Yeongsu following behind. He got in the car and buckled in, his mom doing the same. As they started to leave, he asked again.

"Why are we going to look after her son?" He questioned, "Only one of the kids?" He knew them, not too well, but he knew their names and faces and which one he liked the most. He personally liked the youngest the most. She was seven and adorable, Sooyeon was her name. He knew her the best because she really liked Yeongsu and always greeted him with a hug. He knew the oldest Taesoo more than Taehyun since Taehyun was pretty quiet most of the time which made it a little harder to get to know him, but he did tend to get a little loud when he got excited. Yeongsu knew the boy liked art a whole lot. He had a boxy smile like his mother and was quite childish for a thirteen year old. It made the boy seem quite innocent. Taesoo on the other hand was pretty talkative no matter who he was talking to. He got along with the oldest son because he was around Yeongsu's age. They talked quite a bit and he got to know the boy more than he really cared to. The older one usually talked to Yeongsu one sidedly because his responses mainly consisted of "Oh yeah?"s, "Mhm"s, and "Cool"s while he looked at his phone.

"Which kid?"

"Taehyun." she responded.

"Why only one, why are we going to take care of him for a while?" He kept asking.

"Yeongsu... Please stop." Tears fell down his mother's cheek visibly now. His mother didn't cry often and it broke his heart to see her with such a pained expression.

Thirty minutes passed of complete silence. "Eomeoni?"

"I can't talk about it anymore." She said ending all Yeongsu's questions.

After an hour and a half they finally reached the hospital. His mother rushed out of the vehicle in a hurry. Yeongsu struggled to keep up with her walking speed as they entered the building. The aseptic smell reached his nostrils as they approached the receptionist desk of the hospital.

"I am here as Lee Taehyun's legal guardian." His mother said to the receptionist. He watched as the receptionist's face changed to pity.

"Of course, I will take you to him." The receptionist stood and began to lead the way down multiple halls. The receptionist turned around to look at his mother as they came to a stop at a door. "You may see some strange behaviors as he gets older. He most likely is going to suffer from survivor's guilt. His memories may even alter, so try to be patient with him." She said before entering the room. As they entered the room, his eyes met with the back of the boy's red hair. The kid had a leg splint on and a rib brace.

"What's survivor's guilt? Did he get kicked out of his house for getting into trouble?" He wondered.

"Taehyun-ah, you have visitors." The receptionist called out to the boy. Taehyun didn't respond, he just turned his head in their direction. "I'll take my leave now." The receptionist bowed to them before leaving.

The boy's face showed no emotion at all as he looked at them. He looked like an empty shell of the former boy Yeongsu had known. He watched as his mother approached the boy cautiously and then hugged him. She whispered something incoherently into Taehyun's ear. The boy suddenly broke out in sobs and so did his mother. She wiped at the boy's tears and rubbed his head as he clung to her desperately.

They took Taehyun home with them, he had been silent for almost the whole trip. Yeongsu had been observing Taehyun the whole ride. He noticed that Taehyun seemed rather nervous during the trip, but remained silent even when the car would hit bumps causing him to flinch.

Weeks passed by as Taehyun was living there. Yeongsu eventually learned that Taehyun had lost everyone in his whole family. Yeongsu only found out when the boy began to have nightmares of their deaths. He had gotten closer to the boy because of the nightmares, often comforting him so that Taehyun could sleep. He also realized that eve though Taehyun suffered from the nightmares, he couldn't remember what had happened that night aside from him arguing with his father and brother. After an argument at a restaurant he has no recollection of what happened. He says that whatever happened was because of him. Somehow his feelings of guilt had caused him to become quite sensitive.

Present: Yeongsu let out a sigh as he decided he had been away from the group long enough. He picked up his newly made weapon and dragged himself back to the occupied train car.

"Woah! Yeongsu-hyung, did you make that while you were gone?" Taehyun ran up to him and gawked at the strange weapon.

"Oh my gosh! Where did this come from?" Yeongsu gasped sarcastically as he pretended to throw it. "Why can't I let go of it!?"

Taehyun began to laugh at Yeongsu's terrible acting skills as he kept pretending to free his hand from the weapon.

"That's awesome, now I know who to bother when I need a new weapon!" The blonde exclaimed from a seat not far from Yeongsu.

"It looks cool." Kittichai stated. The compliments made Yeongsu smile.

Yeongsu decided to sit across from Jiwon and Kittichai. Taehyun taking the seat next to him. Yeongsu had been thinking, his mentality was, "I'm not responsible for everyone on the train, just the people I care about." Taehyun and Kittichai mattered most to him. The two are like little brothers to him and he knew Jiwon was also going to be part of this team since he would come as a package with Kittichai. As he thought, he closed his eyes for a brief moment. His thoughts were quickly interrupted by a voice sounding through the intercom.

"We are now approaching Daegu and will be stopping there." Those words echoed throughout the train, doubt lingering in everyone's mind. After a few moments the train came to a screeching halt at Daegu station.
