Kitt laid on the pull out couch staring blankly at the ceiling. Sitting up he released a sigh, he couldn't sleep in this situation. He started to get up off the couch when Jiwon let out a tired grunt and rolled over to face him. He briefly froze, making sure his friend didn't wake up due to his movement. When he looked at Jiwon he knew he hadn't woken up because his eyes were shut and he was drooling on the couch. He slowly got up off the couch making sure to not wake the sleeping boy. He grabbed his sword and quietly made his way into the hallway. He couldn't get that penthouse out of his mind and made his way up to it.
He wasn't positive, but if they planned on staying here for a bit to figure stuff out, it'd be better if they all stayed in one place. In the penthouse the group could stay together, it has a big balcony with a pool. If the pool has no chemicals in it, it would be a good place for growing crops and the balcony would provide a view for better planning. They could scout out places to loot and find routes that would be quicker or safer than others. He liked to try and consider every aspect, this could be over tomorrow and completely dealt with and everyone will get on with their lives, but there is also the possibility that it won't be dealt with and this will become their normal lives.
Kitt entered the kitchen and cautiously went through each part, including the food pantry and the cabinets. Once he made sure the kitchen was clear he moved on to the living room, and then to the rest of the place. Aside from the two lurkers that had already been killed, there were no further threats in the penthouse. The penthouse had two master bedrooms and two rooms with two twin beds. It would be perfect for the group of ten.
He went to the bodies on the floor and examined them.
"How am I going to deal with these?" He eyed the two bodies. He looked around the building and his eyes landed on the blankets on the bed. "I got it!"
He ran down the stairs and into the kitchen looking for two things, clean garbage bags and cleaning gloves. He found the items he was looking for rather quickly and went back to the bodies as he put the gloves on. He grabbed the blanket first and sprawled it across the floor. He picked up the head of the lurker he had decapitated and threw it in the garbage bag. Then he picked up the legs of the body and slipped its lower half into the garbage bag and slipped another bag over its upper half and tied the two bags together by the handles so that the bags wouldn't slide off. He repeated the process with the second body. When he finished he flopped both bodies onto the blanket and dragged them up to the roof.
He stood on the edge of the roof looking down into the street. He was considering tossing the bodies from the roof, but thought better of it when he recalled how intelligent the lurkers were. He wasn't sure of how intelligent the lurkers were, but he didn't want to risk exposing their location. So after careful consideration, he decided to leave the bodies on the far side of the roof. The group could figure out what to do with the bodies once they woke up.
After disposing of the bodies he needed to clean up the contaminated areas. He went to the balcony doors and opened all of them, then he went to find bleach and a mop. He found both in a closet and began to pour the bleach all over. He began to mop and scrub everywhere, it didn't matter if there was blood there or not. Since the creatures walked around, Kitt considered everything contaminated and ended up mopping and scrubbing the entire penthouse.
A few hours passed by before he knew it. The brunette wiped the beads of sweat littering his forehead and turned to look out the window. The golden hues of the sun were starting to shine through the surrounding buildings of the city. He released a long tired sigh, relieved to have finished cleaning everything just as the sun started to rise. He put everything away and left the penthouse, making his way back to the apartment where everyone was staying.
He tiptoed into the apartment, scanning the area slowly, making sure nobody was awake. He breathed out in relief when nobody seemed to be awake. He closed the door quietly and tiptoed his way over to where he should've been sleeping. Just as he sat down next to Jiwon, Yeongsu came out of the bedroom.
"Where were you all night?" Yeongsu eyed him in what seemed to be a suspicious manner.
Kitt threw his head back in annoyance, "of course it had to be Yeongsu that found out I had been gone." He thought. "I figured that maybe if we all were going to stay here for a little while, we could stay in the penthouse. It's big enough for all of us, rather than two separate apartments and it would work better for planning and such, right?" He examined Yeongsu's expressionless face.
Yeongsu nodded a couple times before speaking, "You should definitely bring that up with Seojun, it's a good idea." Yeongsu suggested before he went into the kitchen.
Kitt went and laid down on the couch, letting out a sigh; he wondered, what was going to happen to all of them?
_______
A few days had passed by rather quickly for the group, they had been looting the building for food and other supplies over the past few days, which made the time go rather quickly. The looting hadn't been very dangerous either, only running into three lurkers in the building aside from the two that were in the penthouse. Though, each threat was carefully disposed of by Kitt.
"Grab that Kittichai." Yeongsu said. Kitt trailed behind the fireman, picking up any cans of food that fell from the box Yeongsu was carrying. The two carried the box back up to the penthouse where the others had been moving the stuff from Hina's apartment. As they walked into the penthouse they heard arguing, which was natural, since they were just now moving into the penthouse.
"I want the master bedroom!" Minseok pouted, "I'm tired of sleeping on the floor!"
"Well-" Hanwoo started.
"There aren't enough bedrooms for everyone to have separate rooms so you'd have to share the bed with someone." Yeongsu interrupted from the kitchen.
"Okay... Who should share rooms?" Minseok asked.
"Well there are two master bedrooms, two smaller bedrooms with two twin beds in both rooms." Kitt spoke from where he stood next to Yeongsu. "There are ten of us, with two people in a room that supports eight of us. I'm fine with sleeping in the living room." He stated.
"Well Hina and KZ should stay together in one of the smaller rooms, since it would be improper for them to stay with anyone else." Yeongsu said factually.
"I-I want to stay with Kittichai." Taehyun muttered softly from where he sat drawing on the coffee table that was once white.
"Why do you want to stay with Kittichai?" Yeongsu questioned the artist.
Kitt watched as Taehyun turned away from Yeongsu, ob loudly ignoring the question.
"Me and Seojun can stay together in the other master bedroom, since we're work partners." Hanwoo said.
"Jiwon can't stay with Yongrae. So he will have to stay with you, Minseok-ah." Kitt declared.
"Why can't Jiwon stay with Yongrae?" The musician asked. Kitt shook his head in response. Minseok nodded and dropped the question, clearly getting the hint that it wasn't Kitt's business to share.
"Then Yongrae and I can stay in the other small bedroom." Yeongsu said putting an end to the discussion.
Finishing what he was doing in the kitchen, Kitt walked over to Taehyun, looking over his shoulder to see what the artist was drawing. It was a black and white drawing of a nine tailed fox with flames surrounding it.
"That's really cool looking Taehyun-ah!" Kitt exclaimed from behind the artist, causing him to jump in place. Taehyun turned to him, Kitt noticed the slight blush crossing the artist's cheeks.
"Really, you think it looks cool?" Taehyun asked.
"Yeah, the way the flames surround the nine tailed fox is really spectacular, and the way his tails mimic the fire in a way." Kitt leaned down over Taehyun's shoulder and pointed at the tails of the fox. "Really unique in the best of ways." He turned and smiled at Taehyun who happened to be staring back at him. Realizing how close he was to Taehyun's face he quickly took a step back, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
"You have a nice smile; it suits you." Taehyun said, before quickly covering his mouth as he looked at Kitt wide eyed. "Sorry." Taehyun suddenly stood up. Kittichai took a surprised step backwards and then watched as the artist briskly walked outside and leaned onto the railing of the building.
"Is my smile nice?" Kitt whispered to himself.
Two weeks later: "Taehyun-ah!" Kitt called from the second floor of the Penthouse. From the sound of his name, Taehyun looked up from his sixth drawing on the coffee table. "Come on." The brunette made his way down the stairs and out the door of their home. Taehyun was quick to follow as Kitt led him out onto the roof.
Once they were out onto the roof, he held a pair of binoculars out to Taehyun which caused him to stare wide eyed at the brunette; Yeongsu hadn't let Taehyun do anything useful over the past two weeks. Yeongsu had expressed that he thought he was too clumsy, thoughtless, and incompetent to do anything without getting himself or others hurt.
"But Yeongsu said-" Taehyun started.
"Yeah well, I don't care what Yeongsu said.'' Kitt cut him off, "the day this all started, you asked if you could come with me, not Yeongsu. I don't agree with the decision he made," he stated. "I can't say for certain if his decision is right or wrong. I don't know you very well and you very well may be incompetent." Kittichai stated with a hint of aggression which caused Taehyun to look down at his feet with a pout evidently on his face. Kitt put his hand on Taehyun's shoulder and continued what he was saying. "Incompetence is just an excuse, a young person is considered incompetent. Incompetence can come from inexperience, therefore I will teach you what you need to know. If Yeongsu leaves you the way you are, you will just be a burden to everyone else, and one thing I do know about you, is you don't want to be a burden." He gave the artist a reassuring smile. Taehyun cautiously took the binoculars. Kitt couldn't help but smile as he watched Taehyun lift them to his face, large side to his eyes.
"Other way." He chuckled as Taehyun blushed, clearly embarrassment. He then quickly flipped them around, nearly dropping them.
"Woah! This is so cool." Taehyun expressed as he did a few little hops. "Hey, what's that." He pointed and handed Kitt the binoculars.
"What's what?" His eyes followed Taehyun's finger, which led to a vehicle. "That's a military vehicle."
"Do you think it'd be worth checking it out, for weapons and stuff?" Taehyun questioned Kitt.
"I think it'd be worth it, but it doesn't matter what I think, we'd have to discuss that with Hanwoo and Seojun." He responded to the artist as he handed the binoculars back to him.
"I don't think Hanwoo will allow it." He visibly pouted as he returned to looking through the binoculars.
Kitt sat on the edge of the roof as Taehyun looked through the binoculars. He was looking around for quite a while, pointing out specific things and asking about them. He noticed how Taehyun had a keen eye for detail and began to consider ways that he could be useful, even without leaving the safety of the building.
"Do you know how to fight?" Kitt questioned.
Taehyun shook his head sheepishly, "not really, but I know a little bit of self defense."
"Maybe I can show you some of the stuff I know sometime." Kitt smiled as he stood up to leave.
"Hey, there are some people over there and they're surrounded!." Taehyun exclaimed and pointed over to a convenience store. "We have to help them!"
Kitt quickly snatched the binoculars from the artist and looked down at the store. He watched as one of the five people got bit in the neck.
He shook his head. "No... they're on their own." He said indifferently as he started to walk away.
"What do you mean 'they're on their own'.. We can't just let them die!" Taehyun grabbed Kitt's arm, stopping him from leaving.
"Do you want to risk everyone's lives to go down there and save them? They're surrounded and won't even be able to hold out until we get over to them." He stated coldly.
"So you're just going to leave them to die?" Taehyun questioned distastefully.
"Taehyun-ah." He said sternly. "In the situation we are in now, we can not afford to go and risk everything for people we don't know."
"They're living, breathing people, just like us! Humanity could be at stake and you're just going to say 'they're on their own'!?" Taehyun argued. "They could help us!"
"If we go down and save them, could you guarantee they won't turn on us?" Kitt questioned. "I understand that humanity could be at stake, and I understand that they could help us, but not all people are good."
"Not all are bad either! I couldn't guarantee you weren't going to hurt me when I met you, but here we are." Taehyun defended.
"Two of their people have already been bitten; they aren't worth the risk! This discussion is over." He declared.
"No this discussion is not over!" Taehyun shouted at Kitt who was taken back by Taehyun's sudden outburst.
"Taehyun-ssi! You act like I don't want to help those people. I do!" He yelled. "You don't know how to fight yet, Jiwon and Minseok are still too scared to go out, guns will attract attention; lastly, close combat won't work against that many lurkers!" He huffed, pausing to take a deep breath, calming himself before continuing. "If we go out there, can you guarantee that you will come back? What about Yeongsu? Seojun and Hanwoo? What about Minseok and Jiwon? Yongrae, KZ, and Hina?" Kitt took another breath. " How about me? Can you guarantee we all will come back unharmed? How would you feel going out to help strangers and Yeongsu dies while out there? Consider why I'm choosing not to go help those people." Kitt finished; a tinge of sadness in his tone. The brunette snatched his arm away from Taehyun's loosening grip, then turned and walked away while Taehyun remained there for a moment. Kitt went to the stairway and quietly sat on the stairs. He leaned into his hands, covering his face. "I'm sorry..." He sighed in defeat, "forgive me..."
