Chapter 53 - Chapter 49 - Killing a God

POV: Baldur

Uninhabited Island in the Pacific, 1951

The "rain" of golden and purple energy fell upon the island, destroying anything it touched. If these small drops of energy touched any mortal, they would be disintegrated. Even what remained of my armor was destroyed, leaving me completely naked with only Sigel in hand.

Surviving one of Balthakk's blows and not being disintegrated seemed to have made him furious. Another claw, now twice the size of the first, slowly descends towards me once again. The tip of my blade burns with flames as I spin Sigel above my head, the flames extending for hundreds of meters, forming a whip of fire that I swing towards the sky.

The whip of flames cuts the gigantic claw in half. For a second, everything is silent until it all explodes.

"BOOM!"

If it was raining energy on the island before, now I can only say that a huge waterfall of energy was falling onto it. Not wanting to be caught by the energy, I use the same trick Thor uses to fly, throwing my spear and holding onto it. At high speed, I leave the island behind, and when I look back, I see the entire island illuminated by lights until it simply disappears from the ocean.

I continue "flying" ahead, trying to find solid ground to continue the fight. Fighting in the ocean would be suicide, but my enemy won't simply wait for me to find a place and prepare for the fight. The skies behind me begin to turn purple, Balthakk is covering the entire Pacific Ocean and coming towards me.

The now purple clouds with black spots begin to shoot lightning bolts at me, luckily I manage to dodge most of them. Each bolt that hits the sea creates an explosion of vapor that helps me escape. After a few minutes of flying at high speed, I finally see another island ahead and pray that it's uninhabited. I reach the beach and waste no time in healing my body, which now has several black spots where Balthakk's energy beams hit me along the way.

"You cannot escape, or have you forgotten that you are carrying a part of me with you?"

As before, the entire island is covered by Balthakk's purple and black energy. This time, he's not trying to take over the whole world, he's just sealing off the entire island to avoid the hassle of chasing me. I grip Sigel, and a golden suit covers my body, I feel uncomfortable fighting completely naked, even though it will evaporate in the next exchange of blows.

"Who said I was running away? I was just looking for another suitable place to continue our fight."

"Ants always flee out of fear, you are no different from them."

"To Balthakk, I guarantee you that by the end of this day, it will be you who will be running."

"HOW DARE YOU!"

The sky rages with Balthakk's shout, and the clouds swirl, forming a huge hole from which purple flames fall in the shape of a hurricane, hitting me. I spin Sigel, creating a circular defense in an attempt to defend against the flames covering the entire beach of the island, the flames don't cause much damage to me, but all the sand on the beach has now turned into glass due to the temperature. After realizing that the attack was not working, Balthakk stops it.

"Trying to use flames to kill the god of the sun is a ridiculous idea, don't you think?"

I use rune magic to increase my divine powers, a golden light covers the entire island, causing all the vegetation to catch fire. The flames obey my commands and gather around me in a cyclone of flames that reaches the sky. I feel Balthakk above the clouds, preparing his next attack, but this time I don't wait for him. I gather all my power into my spear and hurl myself into the sky at high speed, another gigantic claw has just formed, and at the same moment, I collide with it, unleashing a huge explosion of flames, light, and heat.

The clash of our blows creates a huge golden and purple typhoon that covers thousands of meters of the Pacific Ocean. With my clothes once again destroyed, I fall right into the center of the uninhabited island. This was the most powerful blow I have ever struck against an enemy, and it didn't even cause any damage to Balthakk.

Balthakk, in his energy form resembling mist, hovers a few meters above me, if he had a face, I would say he was furious now.

"Enough! This game ends now!"

His mist form expands, covering the entire island. This time, I don't try to fight back, as this is also part of my plans. After the island is covered, I find myself in a completely empty space, surrounded by purple energy, everything around me is Balthakk.

(Finally in the belly of the beast.)

The island is now floating in this space entirely composed of energy, it begins to tremble and disintegrate. The energy is turning it all into dust, and if my light wasn't providing some protection, it would disintegrate the moment it entered this space.

"Welcome to my realm, Baldur, son of Odin, here, not even your father can harm me, let alone you."

"You underestimate my father too much, even Galactus would have trouble in a fight against him. But don't worry, I am more than enough to deal with you."

"Proud and foolish to the last second of your existence, worthy of a son of Odin. But I have endured your humiliations for too long. I will take your soul from your body for you to see when I possess it!"

The entire dimension attacks me. I don't know how to describe it any other way, all the energy of the dimension attacks me from all directions, destroying the island in less than a second. There was only a small window of time to defend myself, but I didn't.

I receive the entire attack with open arms, the energy covers my entire body, but to Balthakk's shock, I don't suffer even a scratch.

"How is this possible?"

Balthakk's power cannot harm me, Balthakk's dimension cannot harm me, he never could, in fact. Balthakk tries to attack me in other ways, making several energy beams hit my body unsuccessfully, then chains, swords, and spears. He tried to attack me with various objects created from energy with enough power to destroy entire planets.

"How is this possible? How did you achieve this invulnerability?"

"I am in the same state as at the beginning of our fight, I must say I am a bit disappointed that you have not figured it out yet. I have been preparing for this fight for centuries and only now discovered that the enemy who caused me so much trouble is not that great."

"DIE!"

Another attack with no effect.

"It's time to begin, Amora, it's your turn!"

A silhouette appears at my side, Amora, wearing her green battle clothes, holding her staff made from one of Yggdrasil's branches and in the other hand a silver sphere with a rune engraved in the center.

"This dimension is so dull, there's literally nothing here."

"How did you manage to bring another being into my dimension without my authorization?"

Balthakk begins to realize that the situation is no longer under his control and tries to attack Amora with a beam of purple energy which I easily break with my spear. When I blocked the energy beam, it was possible to see a bit of hidden golden light within the energy.

"You merged your power with mine!?"

Of course, an entity like him wouldn't have weak senses and finally understood why his attacks weren't working on me.

"Wasn't the idea originally yours? Every time I used your power and you tried to insert your energy into my body, I inserted my 'seeds' into the door you opened."

More furious with my words, Balthakk creates several hurricanes of flames and energy around us trying to disintegrate us. I create a barrier of light around us, and his attacks fail once again.

"Using your power only a few times wasn't enough for my power to consume yours, but the seeds made me understand your power. So all I had to do was transform my powers to mimic yours, similar energies cannot 'harm' each other. It was you who gave me this idea by saying that my power and yours were similar during our first encounter."

"So, I cannot hurt you, but you cannot harm me either. This stalemate will only last until I destroy the energy you placed inside my dimension."

"You are right. Given enough time, you could easily find my seeds and destroy them, but I never wanted a stalemate, I want total victory. Now, Amora!"

Amora at my side finally makes her move. She begins reciting verses in an ancient language, and the sphere in her hands levitates above us, the rune engraved on the sphere glows, and it starts spinning rapidly, the rune seems to come to life and grows several meters.

The rune engraved on the sphere is called Dagaz, which means new beginnings and transformations. It was the second rune I created to win my fight against the entity.

"For many years, I was trying to think of a way to kill a being made of pure energy. Energy cannot be destroyed, so I went back to basics. Energy cannot be created or destroyed, but it can be transformed!"

The sphere begins to fulfill its function and absorbs the energy from Balthakk's dimension. As it absorbs the purple energy, it releases a very familiar energy to me, a golden and pure energy.

"Of course, in order to do anything, you would have to bring me to your dimension, that's why I received some of your blows injuring me. In fact, I didn't think that would fool you, but it was easier than I thought to make you bring me here."

Balthakk screams in pain, his energy is his body, and it is being remade faster and faster.

"With my plan made, all I needed was a powerful witch and the knowledge to build the sphere you see now, luckily, I already had both."

In this short time, more than twenty-five percent of Balthakk's energy was now transformed into golden energy.

"As you are a being made of pure energy, having your energy transformed into another must be the closest thing to death you will experience!"

"BALDUR!!! I WILL RETURN!!!"

With no way to attack or defend against the rune that is dissolving him completely, Balthakk transforms into a beam of light trying to escape through a portal, if he escapes, he will lose the connection with his dimension and thus his infinite energy supply, leaving him in a very weakened state.

"Balthakk, I told you before that by the end of the day, it would be you fleeing from me, but I never said I would let that happen!"

I mentally control the sphere, making it appear in front of Balthakk, sucking him inside it.

"NOOOOOOOOOOO!"

It ended as quickly as it began. Balthakk tried to escape in various ways, but unfortunately for him, I managed to thwart each one of them. In the end, the entire dimension of purple energy had now transformed into gold.

"So it's finally over."

My wager with Balthakk had been weighing on my mind for a long time, preventing me from relaxing.

"Are you going to begin now?"

Amora at my side gives me one of her beautiful smiles and asks.

"Yes, why not."

With a mental command, the sphere returns to my hand, giving me complete control over the energy. Now that the entire dimension has been transformed into my power, all I have to do is connect to it to have absolute control over this dimension.

"Then let's begin."

All the energy seems to converge towards my body, enough energy to easily destroy a galaxy. The sensation of this energy coursing through my body is one of pain and pleasure at the same time. Shortly after, the sphere enters my chest right where my heart is located. A golden cocoon appears around me, and I begin to lose my senses, but before that, I hear Amora's voice.

"I'll be waiting for you here, my love."
