Chapter 58 - Chapter 53 - Captain Marvel Part 2

POV: Baldur.

Imperial Cruiser Kree, 1995.

Mar-Vell's Laboratory.

The five members of Starforce, along with some Kree soldiers in armor, head towards the center of the ship. I become invisible and follow them, staying slightly behind. Along the way, Yon-Rogg easily captures Fury's "Cat." I must say I'm surprised it didn't devour him. We reach the center of the ship. Everyone seems to be having a good time, my group is chatting with the surviving Skrulls.

"Fraternizing with the enemy?"

Fury is the first to draw his weapon, but the only woman in the Kree group is already aiming at him.

Yon-Rogg makes his entrance by throwing Fury's "cat" in front of Carol.

"What happened to your uniform?"

You can see the anger and disappointment on his face because Carol abandoned the colors of the Kree.

"They messed with her head, as we suspected," says the woman I remember being called Minn-Erva.

As well-trained soldiers, they spread out, covering every corner of the room. I stay behind Yon-Rogg, waiting for the right moment to attack.

"The Supreme Intelligence will set her straight," says Korath, a black-skinned Kree who was part of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Talos looks around, perhaps searching for me. I see fear in his eyes, he's thinking maybe I won't make it in time or that I've fled.

"You see they're not soldiers. Release them. I surrender," Talos says, hoping for mercy for his family, though I doubt the Kree would do such a thing.

"And the core?" Yon-Rogg looks around, trying to find the Infinity Stone.

"You lied to me," tears fill Carol's eyes as he says this.

"I made her into her best version," Yon-Rogg says arrogantly.

Yon-Rogg must truly believe this, he was raised that way since childhood. To him, the Skrulls are nothing, inferior beings, an infestation, as he has said before. Carol tries to blast him with energy, but it doesn't work, the limiter is active.

"What is given can be taken away," Yon-Rogg says arrogantly.

Carol attacks Yon-Rogg like a madwoman, but she is easily subdued by his glove, which emits a kind of force field simulating telekinesis. I see one of the Starforce members steal Maria's lunchbox, inside of which is the Tesseract shining with a blue light.

The Kree soldiers in armor begin to mistreat the survivors, hitting them and forcing them to move, probably choosing a good spot for their execution. I know what will happen next, so I head towards them. I made a promise to Talos, and I intend to keep it.

Two Starforce members are scanning Maria and Fury, accompanied by two Kree soldiers.

"Species: Flerken. Threat: high." They muzzle the cat.

"It's a cat, not Hannibal Lecter," Fury says.

(He still hasn't realized that this isn't a cat? How on earth did this guy become the world's greatest spy!)

The Kree now scans Fury.

"Species: male human. Threat: low to nonexistent," says the mechanical voice of the Kree scanner.

"This thing is broken," Fury says, earning a laugh from Maria and me.

"Put the Flerken in Helion," the Kree orders, handing the cat to the two soldiers.

I'm thinking about how I should kill them. Carol didn't seem to kill them in the movie, and that's a mistake. They have the blood of thousands of innocent lives on their hands, Minn-Erva, for example. In the comics, she's a geneticist who participated in a project to create a new, more evolved and powerful Kree race. She didn't mind using hundreds of innocent lives as experiments to achieve this goal.

I appear in front of the two Kree soldiers, one of them holding the Flerken. With a spin of my spear, I cut off their heads, letting them fall to the ground, leaving only their bodies standing.

Minn-Erva is the first to act, pointing her rifle at me and shooting. I dodge her first shot and throw my spear, piercing her heart. Just because she's a sadist doesn't mean I'll prolong her pain, she's still a woman, lucky her.

Her companion draws two pistols and shoots at me several times. I create a golden shield in front of me to defend myself. I make the shield move and collide with his body, knocking him into the wall, leaving him disoriented for a few seconds, enough time for me to reach him and grab him by the neck.

"Noo...."

He tries to say something, but his voice is muffled as I lift him from the ground, using a bit of my power to engulf him in flames like a Christmas tree, golden flames enveloping his entire body. Seconds later, I'm holding only a skeleton. I release the skeleton and pick up the only intact thing on him, his scanner. I aim it at myself, I want to know the level of danger the Supreme Intelligence has placed on the Asgardians.

"Species: male Asgardian. Threat: Extreme," says the mechanical voice of the Kree scanner.

I drop the scanner and head towards Maria and Fury, who are looking at me in surprise.

"Where the hell were you?" Fury asks as I free him from his handcuffs.

"Carol needs to find her own way, unfortunately for that to happen, she needs to confront the Supreme Intelligence."

"You better be right about this. Where's the scientist?" He looks around for the ally who should have been with me.

"He slipped and fell to the ground, he's resting on my ship now." I blatantly lie.

"What a great scientist."

It seems my lie worked, truth be told, we weren't expecting much from the scientist since they discovered Mar-Vell's ship.

"We need to go help Carol."

Maria doesn't wait for our response and heads towards the door, but I stop her.

"As I said before, she needs to do this alone."

"She could get hurt."

"They won't risk losing something so valuable. Believe me, I already control all the ship's cameras, I'm keeping an eye on everything that happens to her."

"He's right, Maria. We have to help the refugees first."

In the end, she accepts what I said, and Fury picks up the Flerken as we walk through the corridors as quickly as we can.

"Where are the refugees?" Maria asks.

"In the containment cells, we're close," I reply.

We encounter some soldiers on the way, all of whom were killed by my spear. Maria picks up one of their weapons, and I must say she's a terrible shot. We reach the cells, and I see that she is being guarded by two more guards. Not wanting to waste any more time dealing with ants, I thrust two golden light spears that hit them both in the head, killing them instantly. I stand in front of the cell and see Talos with all the refugees, who are terrified.

"Lord Baldur... I thought..."

"I made a promise to you, Talos, and a son of Odin always keeps his word."

"How do we open the cells?" Fury looks around trying to find a console or key to open the cells.

"We don't need to. Look."

Shortly after, the lights begin to flicker, and then the cell fails, leaving everyone free. This means that Carol has finally unleashed all her powers, now she must steal the Tesseract and come towards us.

"Let's go to my ship now."

We all run through the corridors until we see two soldiers pointing their weapons at us. When I'm about to kill them, a light hits them. When the light subsides, we see Carol floating in her power, her whole body emanating energy.

"Thank God you're all right," she says.

"You know you're glowing, right?"

"I'll explain later, take the Tesseract, leave the lunchbox."

Carol tries to hand the lunchbox to Fury, who backs away.

"I'm not touching that."

"Want a thermal glove?" She jokes.

At that moment, Fury removes the Flerken's muzzle, and when its mouth opens, several tentacles emerge from inside it, devouring the Tesseract and leaving us all speechless.

"I told you to be careful with the Flerken several times," Talos, who is with the survivors, speaks behind us.

"You didn't tell me this cat was Cthulhu's offspring!"

"Take the Skrulls to the Quadjet and go."

"Fury, take the Flerken with you," I interrupt.

"And you?" Maria asks Carol.

"I'll buy you some time!" Carol doesn't wait and flies at high speed towards what's left of the Starforce.

"Take them all to my ship, I'll go after her."

I walk slowly in the direction she went, leaving everyone behind.

In the center of the ship, I see Carol on the stairs with her lunchbox in hand. The Starforce, along with several Kree soldiers, surround her.

"Hey, folks, arm wrestling over the Tesseract?" She jokes.

"I used to find you amusing, let's end this!"

Yon-Rogg orders the attack, and all the surviving members of the Starforce attack Carol. She then punches the ground, releasing an immense amount of energy that causes the entire staircase to collapse. The soldiers are crushed by the debris, leaving only the three surviving members of the Starforce alive.

A giant Kree with a long beard activates his two gloves, which glow blue. He tries to attack Carol from behind, so I get between them. His punch hits me squarely in the chest, dragging me along the floor.

"Nice punch," I say.

"Another one of your new friends? Doesn't matter, kill him!"

Korath attacks with his two blue-glowing swords. Carol grabs one and breaks it in half, leaving Korath in shock. Without giving him time to think, she fires an energy blast at his chest, sending him flying to the other side of the ship. However, as she still doesn't have good control over her strength, she recoils and hits the ship's wall.

The big guy, whom I think was called Bron-Char, attacks me again with several punches that I easily dodge. His fighting skills are very good, and he is very fast for his size. I grab his wrist and punch his elbow, breaking his arm like a twig.

"HAAAAAAA!"

I spin my body and kick his chest, pinning him to the wall. Korath, who was exchanging blows with Carol, sees the state of his comrade and throws his last sword at me. I catch it in the air and throw it at Bron-Char, the sword pierces his heart, killing him. Korath's shock is taken advantage of by Carol, who hits him with another blast from both hands, taking him out of the fight.

(I'll spare your life because you tried to save your comrade.)

Carol comes towards me with a stern face, if we weren't in a fight, I guarantee she'd punch me.

"Why did you come back?"

"To help, of course."

"I didn't need your help."

She's definitely still angry about our first encounter. She spent a lot of time training with Yon-Rogg, losing several times, but she never lost as easily as when she fought me. Just as I was about to respond, the debris from the staircase starts floating in the air, revealing Yon-Rogg.

He points his hand at Carol, who is floating in the air. He jumps and hits her squarely in the face, then looks at me.

"Who are you?"

"A corpse doesn't need to know my name."

He becomes furious with this and throws several debris at me, I am buried under several tons of metal. When I free myself, I see the two of them continuing their fight.

Yon-Rogg continues throwing several pieces of debris at Carol, who dodges them until he traps her against the wall with his force field. Thinking he has achieved victory, Yon-Rogg approaches her with a dagger. Carol releases a wave of energy that makes him take several steps back. Because of the energy blast, Carol welds the lunchbox shut, causing it to fall to the ground, revealing it was empty.

"Nice distraction," he says, smiling.

"I could have sworn I put it in there," she responds.

I grab Yon-Rogg from behind by his uniform and throw him backward. He gets up and sees that he is at a disadvantage with all his teammates out of combat. So, he runs to the launch deck, and Carol shoots after him at high speed.
