Chapter 28 - Last wish

"Ethan's point of view,"

"It's up to you, Ethan, whether you accept my words as a challenge or an order. I want Stella to be your wife."

My ears were ringing with Grandma's words.

Exactly what sort of mess has my grandmother gotten me into? I can't tell her I'm not at all interested in girls because if I do, she'll assume I'm gay. Oh no, what kind of foolishness am I thinking? Considering that this is the first time my grandma has asked me for something, I must grant her a last wish. I will soon need to see a different doctor for my grandma's treatment because I can not watch my grandmother die in front of my eyes in this way.

"Ethan, my child, what led you to decide to grant my last wish?" It jolted me out of my thoughts when I heard my grandmother's voice.

"Grandma, please try not to worry about my wedding too much. I don't want you to become sick of thinking too much." I said, assisting her in moving from the bed.

"Don't waste my time with idle chatter; simply respond to my question about whether Stella Parker will become my daughter-in-law." I had never experienced Grandma's dominating manner before.

"We can discuss this in the evening after you have some rest, Grandma." Upon seeing the nurse entered her room, I exhaled a sigh of relief.

"I'll be patient until the night." Grandmother's eyes showed the warning clearly.

Oh my god, I have myself stuck here. I had asked Stella Parker to sell me a tiny plot of land, but she refused. I even nearly bankrupted her business to get her to give in to my demands, but she remained unmoved. I'm not making apologies to me. And according to my grandmother, she will marry me.

But to grant your grandmother's last desire, you must take action. Any means necessary must convince Stella Parker to become your wife. Why is my subconscious so intrigued by my grandmother's ultimate wish?

What do you suppose she would say, even if I approached her about marriage? I questioned my subconscious.

Perhaps she won't agree to marry you because no girl in the world would want to be your wife after the way you treated her. Also, I'm ready to split up with you. The voices in my head teased me again.

What if someone else was already there in her life? How would I fulfill my grandmother's last request if she had already married someone else? I don't know why, but the very thought of Stella having a romantic relationship with another man makes me very upset.

No, it is not possible at all. Since no man in the world could ensure that obstinate girl's temper outbursts, I'm rather certain she can not have a lover. Oh, seriously, are you envious of her fictitious sweetheart? Finally, I get another opportunity to be mocked by my brilliant subconscious.

No, there is no reason for me to feel envious; all I want is for my grandma's last desire to be fulfilled by some sort of miracle. I gave a little shrug as I contemplated the ideas that had been going through my head.

It drew my attention to the call that was flashing on the mobile screen.

"Stella Parker? Why is this obstinate girl calling me?" It surprised me when I stared at the call that was flashing on the cellphone screen.

You're an idiot, Ethan. You won't learn why she called until you answer the phone. My subconscious chastised me once again.

"Miss Parker, did you accidentally dial my number?" As soon as I answered the phone, I taunted her.

"No, Mr. Woods; I simply called your number to speak with you. I don't make big mistakes like this." Her irate voice pierced through my ears.

I'm not sure why, but as soon as her voice reached my ears and a broad smile appeared on my face, my heart experienced a peculiar sense of relief.

"If so, tell me now what the world's most obstinate girl has to say to me." It sated her initiative beyond the measure of my ego to interact with me.

"I can't tell you anything over the phone; it would be better if we could find a quiet place to discuss." She inhaled deeply before responding to my query.

"Do you intend to humiliate me by seeing me once more?" I asked, and my brow furrowed.

She has this habit of slapping my cheek whenever we meet, and I am so utterly speechless that I do not know what to say to her.

Yes, because you are constantly mistaken. Once more, I had a subliminal interruption.

"Well, until now, my intention has only been to relax and talk to you, but if you enjoy getting smacked by my hand, of course, we can do that." Her tone made it obvious that she was becoming thrilled as she responded to my query.

Is she getting the impression that I'm too scared to ask her this?

Of course, she must be thinking precisely this about you right now, you moron. She is not any typical girl who gets afraid at the mention of your name.

You are currently dealing with Stella Parker; why can't you use some brain to communicate with her? And she has no fear of you at all; in fact, she has a great understanding of how to damage your ego.

I clenched my fists to contain my rage and said, "Stop your bullshit."

"Are you threatening me, Miss Parker?" I asked in a furious tone.

"Oh no, Mr. Woods, I lack the courage to threaten the legendary Ethan Woods; who knows, you might even exact retribution on me for this." She mocked me once more.

"Okay, Miss Parker, if that's the case, I don't want to see you, so please say whatever you want to say to me on this call right away." Even after hearing her taunts, I did my best to speak to her properly, but perhaps she didn't appreciate my courteous manner of speaking.

"I'm afraid I'm unable to speak with you over the phone." With a quiet voice, she said,

"So, Miss Parker, as you wish." My male ego had total control over me.

What are you doing, Ethan? If you continue to treat her in this way, she will never consent to marry you. Have you forgotten your grandmother's last wish? I was told by my subconscious to manage my wrath.

So what else do you want from me besides that I continue to calmly listen to this stubborn girl's nonsense? By this time, I was utterly annoyed.

After all, what kind of strange circumstance am I in?

My grandma looked everywhere for a suitable bride and finally settled on Stella Parker.

"Okay, Mr. Woods, pay close attention to what I have to say because I am prepared to sell you my land. But in exchange, you'll need to give me back all the company's shares."

"What?" After listening to her, I could not believe what I was hearing. After all, what has transpired since she so willingly agreed to sell me the land?

"Would you mind sharing the reasoning for your decision?" Out of curiosity, I questioned her.

"It is not at all required to know the purpose behind anything I do; just buy the land directly and leave me forever." She uttered it in a furious tone.

"No, that is not possible. I believe we should meet once." I said this while swallowing my saliva.

This meeting couldn't come at a more crucial time; she's been trying to get away from me by selling her property, and I do not know how to break it to her that my grandmother has already insisted that she be my wife for the rest of her life.
