Chapter 31 - Proposal accepted

"Stella's point of view,"

"What can I do for you, Miss Parker?" He answered my call on the first ring as soon as I dialed his number.

Was he expecting my call and holding his phone out? No, this is not possible. He won't be aware that I am calling him at this moment because he is probably waiting for another call while I have dialed his number.

"Why are you silent, Miss Parker? Why did you call me? Please explain." His deep voice cut my train of thought of.

Oh no, how do I respond to his query now? I called him a lot of bravadoes, but as soon as I heard his voice, all of my assurance seemed to vanish. My words feel as though they are stuck in my throat. I'd never had such anxiety before.

"Miss Parker, are you listening?" Why is his voice making me suddenly anxious?

"Y..ye yes...," It was really difficult for me to speak the words.

"So why are you silent? What's up?" His voice genuinely reflected his unease. It implies that he is genuinely interested in finding out more about me.

"Mr. Woods, I must discuss something crucial for you," I muttered while fidgeting.

"I'm listening, Miss Parker, so speak up." This time, he is speaking to me calmly rather than taunting me like he usually does. His altered demeanor shocked me.

"After much consideration, I've accepted your proposal," I spoke hesitantly.

"What? Please repeat what you just said." I could tell by the thrill in his voice that he must be overjoyed right now with his success.

This conceited man's laughter was piercing my ears like a needle. If I had the option, I would never, ever accept this man's proposal until the day I passed away. But I must now submit to Ethan Woods because of my fate.

"Miss Parker, are you kidding me?" His laughter abruptly ended, and I remained silent after listening to him. This time, the terror he had been suppressing came out of his query.

I still don't know why this guy wants to marry me. This proposition of his must undoubtedly have some very significant justification. He considers every choice he makes in terms of profit and loss, so what advantage will he gain by marrying me?

Maybe, like my dear Lily Aunty, he's interested in running my company, but he's not interested in marrying me because he already runs it. If that's the case, then why does he want to marry me?

"Oh, Miss Parker, I thought you were joking." He repeated his question in a dejected tone.

Is it so crucial for this man to marry me?

"No, Mr. Woods, I'm being completely honest," I replied after taking a long breath. How am I supposed to tell him that right now, because of the joke that my life has played on me, I am not in a position to joke with anyone?

"What prompted your unexpected acceptance of my proposal?" He asked in a doubtful tone.

"If I have learned anything about Ethan Woods, he is solely concerned with winning, regardless of how that win is accomplished." His questions make me uncomfortable.

I can't explain to him why I've been married to him at the last minute.

"Yes, of course, but considering how abruptly your intentions changed, I'm curious about what led to this recent choice."

"What exactly is your problem? You threatened to ruin my business completely if I didn't accept your proposal, and now that I have, you are still having difficulties.

What do you want?" This man's silly inquiries have only added to my already extreme annoyance. I was struggling to keep my wrath under control at this point.

"You shouldn't be so angry with me. You must respond to my inquiry: Why are you accepting my proposal?"

Oh my goodness, this man is obstinate.

"No, I won't share any information with you about my choice, and if you do, I might change my mind and reject your offer once more," I yelled at him.

"That's not an option because you'll have to marry me." He stopped pestering me with his pointless questions when I threatened him.

"Miss Parker, what are you waiting for?"

"What do you mean?" I asked in a perplexed tone.

"Why don't you offer me an apology?"

"I will not apologize to you.

Do you not immediately understand what I said?" This individual must have had a severe brain injury, which makes it likely that he has trouble understanding things at once.

"I won't give you your company's shares again if you don't apologize to me first.."

"You are currently cheating on me." I have no interest in feeding this man's pride. However, God has not provided another path for me.

"Have you forgotten that everything is fair in love and war, Miss Parker?" My ears were torn by his devilish laugh.

"Do you want to fight me, then?" I asked in a furious tone.

"Any reasonable person would realize that someone with such a stony heart could never love. You will undoubtedly need to apologize to me."

"I have some more essential things to discuss with you, Mr. Woods, so we can talk about this together." When I saw Avery waiting outside my door, I motioned for her to come in.

"As you wish, Miss Parker, but if you slap me in this meeting once again, I won't just watch silently; I'll slap you as well." He yelled at me.

"So, Mr. Woods, if you don't want to receive another slap from me, you'd better keep your mouth shut." I don't intend to slap him, but after hearing what he said, my hand just wants to slap him with no provocation.

"I'll see you soon, Miss Parker." He ended the call.

"Stella, you can't possibly do this to him, can you?" Avery handed me the envelope she had brought with her and asked.

"Yes, my darling P.A. The same thing that I'm going to do with him." I opened the envelope and read the documents inside.

"What if he rejects your terms, though?' She asked in a fearful tone.

"No, it won't happen. I'm confident that he will readily agree to my demands because he must be marrying me for a specific reason." I said as I would keep the paper in the envelope.

"Stella, I am glad that you have a life partner like Ethan Woods, regardless of the reason he married you. I've prayed for God to prevent you from marrying David, and he has finally answered my prayers." She gives me a warm hug.

"Do not bring up David again, Avery; I do not want Ethan to find out the real reason I chose to marry him," I asked her to keep this a closely guarded secret.

"Stella, don't worry at all; I'll keep this a secret that I've buried deep inside of me." Her gaze reassured me.
