Chapter 13 - An Invitation & Combat Experience

As Vergil stood amidst the scattered remnants of the mannequin, a sense of satisfaction washed over him. Yet, this moment of triumph was merely a stepping stone in his journey towards mastery. With each strike of his sword, he felt a deeper connection to his newfound abilities, a resonance that echoed within him.

May watched him from the sidelines, serving as his guardian during his breakthrough.

"Congratulations, young master," May said genuinely, her happiness evident.

Suddenly Vergil came to May and hugged her.

"Thank you, May," Vergil murmured, his voice tinged with emotion.

"Uh... Yyy..young Master, it's okay," May replied, surprised by the sudden display of affection, but she returned the hug, her arms wrapping gently around Vergil's back.

"Thank you, May, for being with me through this tough time," Vergil insisted, his voice wavering with emotion, as he tightened his hug.

They stood like that for a moment, the bond between them deepening with each passing second.

Vergil, after waking up from his emotional outburst, abruptly broke the hug, feeling embarrassed.

"Sorry, May, I got a little carried away," Vergil apologized, flushing with embarrassment.

"No worries, Young Master. If you ever need me, I am always here for you," May replied, still flustered by Vergil's action.

"Shall we go?" Vergil suggested, trying to break the awkward moment.

Vergil POV

'What did I do.. What did I do?' Vergil asked over and over in his mind.

He did not know where this courage came from, but in the spur of the moment, he hugged May.

'Ahhhhhhh,' mentally screaming at himself.

They made their way towards the estate silently along the way, the awkwardness that he hoped would go away instead increased with each passing moment.

"So, May, about the sparring I talked about," Vergil finally broke the silence, unable to bear it any longer.

"Uh... Yes... yes, young master, what about that?" May replied, snapping out of her thoughts.

"I was thinking we could start from tomorrow. I have already reached tier 1 mage and 1 star swordsman, so now I need combat training," Vergil said.

"Again, young master, do you really want me to train you?" May hesitated, still uncertain of this responsibility.

I stopped and looked at her. This was the third time I had asked her, and she was still not sure about it.

"May, although I don't know why you are hesitant, I trust you and know you will be a great teacher. I know you are a great Aura user, and I will learn a lot from you," I said earnestly.

"But if you are still not sure, then I will not force you," I said, not pushing anymore.

"No, no... Young master, it's just that I am worried that I will hurt you," May said after some pause.

"May, I trust you and have faith in me. I will not be unilaterally beaten by you," I joked with May to alleviate her worries.

"Okay, Young Master, I will spar with you," May finally relented.

"Yes!" I cheered as May agreed.

After this, I went to my father's study.

Knock, knock.

"Come in," my father's voice came from inside.

I entered the study with May and greeted father.

"Good evening, father," I said as I smiled a little.

"Good evening, Vergil. It would seem that it was a success," Father said, already knowing.

"Yes, Father," I said, surprised that my father already knew, but then again, he would have kept an eye on me during this important time.

"Okay, well done. As expected of my son," Father said with pride evident in his tone.

"Father I plan to learn my aura art and I will train with May for combat experience" I said

father was surprised and he looked at May and then at me

"Are you sure" Father said

It would seem that there is story behind this as father also hesitant this time but I have a feeling that this would be the best for me

"Yes father I trust May" I declared

There was silence in the room but eventually father nodded

"okay do as you see fit"

"then I shall take my leave" I was about to bid farewell but he stopped me

"wait a minute Vergil, before you go I have to inform you Marquis Bellatorius has hosted a gathering for her daughter Eleanor Bellatorius 15th birthday and we are also invited " Father said

"Can I not go...."I said as I felt it would troublesome

"No you have to come it will also serve as your first appearance in the nobility circle" Father denied any possibility of my escape

"haa..Fine I'll go but don't expect anything from me there" I said warning in advance for any accident there

"Try to socialize there a little, there will be children of your age there that will also attend the Arcane Academy" Father told me

"Okay I'll try my best" I sighed helplessly

after that I finally bade farewell and left the study and went to dinner and then to sleep

Next morning I was in the training ground with May as my opponent

Today May is different from usual instead of her uniform she was wearing a black and white sports wear like myself and her hair in a pony tail, A pair of Twin blades sheathed placed on her waist

'she looks like an assassin' I thought

"are you ready young master" May asked

Taking a deep breath I readied myself and took out Umbra from the sheath

"come on lets start" I said as I pointed umbra at her as I took my stance

Third POV

We both stood ten meters apart, weapons drawn and tension thick in the air.

"You first, young master," May offered, giving Vergil the chance to strike.

"Then I shall not be polite," Vergil declared, releasing his aura in a bath of purple light.

Sensing his disadvantage, Vergil knew he had to act quickly. Concentrating his prana at his feet, he propelled himself towards May with a burst of speed, utilizing a basic movement technique to gain momentum.

Meanwhile, May's aura, black as night, enveloped her in a shroud of power. She matched Vergil's movement with ease, her reactions sharp and calculated.

As Vergil attempted a head-on slash, May effortlessly blocked his strike with a single blade. Undeterred, he followed up with another slash, but once again, May's defenses held strong.

Backing away slightly, Vergil attempted a thrust, but May evaded with grace, demonstrating her superior speed. She countered with a slash from a blind spot, forcing Vergil to rely on instinct to block, though he was still pushed back.

"Good, young master," May commended, recognizing Vergil's reflexes. "But in a real battle, instincts alone won't suffice."

Closing the distance with startling speed, May launched a flurry of attacks, each strike calculated to break Vergil's rhythm. Despite his best efforts, Vergil found himself on the defensive, struggling to keep up with May's relentless assault.

She moved towards me using the same technique but it would seem her speed is faster, as she was instantly was in front of me. I was able to somehow block her sword but she anticipated this and changed the direction of her attack as the previous one was a feint pushing prana in my arms and back I tilted back as I tried to evade the attack, but seeing this May used aura projection as a bullet like aura grazed my neck I hurriedly stepped back trying to open the distance

My body was already full of sweat yet May looked like barely exerting anything

"Young master in real fights feints are just as important as fatal strikes as it can break the rhythm of a swordsman so its crucial to detect feints" May said as trying to teach me

I nodded and went to attack her again this time I did a vertical slash she parried with her blade followed by a vertical slash as I alternated between these, she was able to deflect them easily

'Young master is basically repeating the same attacks which is predictable' May thought

As she was going for another strike Vergil changed his strike and backed away as a magic circle appeared at his palm

"Cast lightning: Lightning Javelin"

A lightning spear appeared in front of May caught off guard, May managed to slash through the lightning, but before she could fully recover, Vergil was upon her again, pouring his prana into a powerful sword strike but may being experience was able to react in time as she took out her second blade and blocked it effortlessly

"Got you," Vergil exclaimed, a smile spreading across his face. as he was heavily breathing

Impressed by his adaptability, "you really are a quick learner master "May praised Vergil's quick learning.

"Let's go again," Vergil declared, bracing himself for the next round
