Vergil walked towards the dining hall with May following from behind. As he walked, he began to ponder about what to do.
According to his memories, his father is a rather stern yet caring man who always abides by the code of conduct of the family. He places high expectations for his son, yet Vergil was unable to reciprocate, leading to disappointment in his son. His mother is a gentle and caring woman who always speaks up for her son but also wants him to be an accomplished mage.
Speaking of magic, his father is a 7-star Grandmaster-level swordsman, and his mother is a Tier 6 high-level mage. Both his father and mother were considered talented in their time, and this is also the reason for his high talent and expectations.
But still, his parents could not figure out the reason for their son's inability to progress forward.
Honestly, Vergil felt a headache about his situation. Since he has already come to accept this body, he will treat his parents as real parents, as from the memories of his past world, he did not have parents as he was an orphan.
Speaking of his past life, he was considered a relatively smart individual as he successfully graduated from Cambridge University and still in the top division, with a promising job in a multinational company. He does not remember much about his death, as that part is still a bit cloudy in his mind. Nevertheless, he was not as naïve as his predecessor. He knew his condition must have a logical reason as he felt that his body was missing something, which is why his body was not responding despite absorbing a large amount of mana from the environment. He decided to further study his condition later after dinner.
As Vergil thought, he reached the dining room. May came forward and opened the door.
What greeted his eyes was a large room with a long rectangular table, enough to seat 20 people. On the main seat sat a robust middle-aged man with silver hair. From him, Vergil could feel an imposing aura. He was Vergil's father, William Winchester. On the right side of him sat a black haired beautiful lady full of mature charm and a noble, elegant aura. She was Vergil's mother, Martha Winchester.
First POV:
Both of them noticed me as soon as the door opened and looked towards me. I felt slight pressure from their presence but soon got adjusted. I walked towards them and gave them a slight bow as etiquette I learned from the memory.
"Good evening, Father, Mother," I said as I smiled a little and greeted them.
My mother, Martha, immediately smiled brightly and sat up from her chair, coming towards me.
"Darling, why are you being so formal? Come and sit with me," Mother said in a gentle tone.
"How are you feeling, my baby? Are you alright now? You had us worried when you suddenly had a fever this morning," concern was evident as my mother inquired about my health.
"I am feeling fine now, Mother, just a little tired," I smiled, trying to dissuade her concern.
My father nodded towards me, and I sat next to my mother as May pulled the chair for me to sit.
As I sat down, the maids began to put the dishes for us to eat. This was also a novel experience for me, as someone began to serve the dishes.
On the table, we don't have the habit of talking during our meals, so we ate our meal in silence. After the meal was over, my father asked me,
"Vergil, are you ready to enroll in the academy?" My father inquired, his eyes showing a hint of concern.
I raised my head and looked at my father, sensing his concern. He was talking about my admission to the Imperial Arcane Arts Academy. This was one of the most prestigious academies providing professional guidance to all young and aspiring mages and swordsmen. The academy provides a chance for both nobles and common people to enroll and showcase their talents. Those graduated from this academy are highly sought out by the imperial family and the big nobles. The minimum requirement for enrollment is that the student must be a junior mage or junior swordsman above Tier 2 or 2-star swordsman. But the issue was, even though I have talent, I was still unable to become a Tier 2 mage. Another way to enroll was to have an Outstanding Talent or be recommended by a Marquis or above noble. I already had an outstanding talent, so I fit this criterion, but I was still reluctant to showcase my rare space element. The talent was so rare that in the entire empire, you could only find a handful of people with this talent. Our family may be nobility, but we were only at the level of a baron. So, if someone found out about my talent, it may cause a political storm in the empire, and I personally would experience many restrictions despite getting many resources. This upheaval could very well lead to the downfall of the family. Currently, there are still 6 months left before enrollment starts.
"Father, I am well aware that my talent could pose a threat to other families, so currently, I want to go through normal means," I said as I looked at my father.
William's POV
I raised my eyebrow as I looked at my son. He seemed a little different from before. Previously, my son was a little timid and lacked self-confidence, but today he surprised me. He was looking directly at me in the eyes and understood what I was trying to tell him. Still, I was worried about the situation regarding my son, as he was unable to cultivate magic. This world is already very cruel to the weak, but nevertheless, I was relieved as it looked like my son had grown up after today.
"Vergil, I am glad you consider our family's well-being, but you should also know that your current situation will not allow you to enroll in the academy normally," I said to my son as he looked at me.
"I know very well, Father, but believe me and give me time. I assure you I will be able to do something about my situation," he said, looking at me with conviction.
First Person POV
I knew it might be a long shot, but I wanted to give it a little more thought and try to change my situation. I don't know why, but I had a nagging feeling, call it intuition, but I knew I could solve my problem, so I asked for some time.
"Father, give me time. I want to search a little about my situation and try to learn the reason for my condition," I said as I pleaded with my father.
"There are still 6 months before admission. Let me go to the library and look there."
"Hah... Fine. You could access the library, and I will also open the innermost part of the library," my father said as he relented to my request.
My mother looked relieved as she looked between me and my father. It was the first time I talked to my father in a confrontational way.
I knew it was successful as I was able to persuade my father. The first step had already been taken, now I had to follow through with it.
As the situation settled down I breathed a sigh of relief as I sat down began to drink tea and snacks
After dinner, I made my way back to my room, knowing that tomorrow morning I would finally be able to enter the library and begin my studies.
May continued to follow me, a constant presence by my side. It seemed she was designated as my personal maid, her strength evident in her confident demeanor. Though her skills leaned towards that of a 6-star swordsman, specializing in short swords and blades, she seemed more akin to an assassin in her approach.
"May, you can take a rest. I can manage on my own," I suggested as we walked down the corridor.
"Young master, it is my duty to accompany and ensure your well-being," May replied sternly, emphasizing the importance of her role.
"I know I know... Jeesh ... ," I chuckled, realizing her unwavering commitment to her responsibilities.
"Very well, young master," May conceded with a small smile, her demeanor softening as she acknowledged my request.
As we continued our journey to my room, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude towards May. Despite the challenges I had faced in recent years, she was always by my side, serving as a constant source of support in my darkest moments. With her by my side, I felt reassured, knowing that I wasn't alone in this unfamiliar world.
