Chapter 34 - The Sergeant with a strong backing

I'm finally done with my end-of-semester examination. Thank you all for your patience. Now, expect frequent releases. Thank you!

.....

An offer? Yebou asked curiously as he stared at the Sergeant before him. He couldn't fathom the kind of offer that would make a whole sergeant leave his abode and travel through the night to his place.

"Are you interested in joining the police? Sergeant Quaye asked, smiling. From the moment he watched the video, he had made up his mind to bring the kid under his wings before another person took notice of his talent.

"The police? Yebou was momentarily stunned when he heard the offer the Sergeant proposed.

"Isn't it against the law to enroll someone below the age of 18 into the police force?"

As a former Superintendent of Police in his previous life, he knew every single law governing the police department and its personnel.

I'm his previous life. Before anyone could be enlisted into the police force, one had to qualify for the criteria placed by the police. That is age, academic records, criminal records, health, height, etc.

However, looking at his current situation, his age would even disqualify him much less his academic records. The only notable ones that he could qualify for are his criminal records and height. Thanks to the system.

As a Sergeant, he should be well aware of the rules and regulations binding the police unit. Due to that, he was curious to know the reason the Sergeant would place such an offer on the table.

"Hahaha, you might not know this since you are young and probably not in the police department. There is something we call recommendation slots.

When applied, It will automatically have one bypass all those criteria new officers would have to pass through before they could be enlisted into the police force" Sergeant Quaye replied.

As a Sergeant, how could he not know the basic rules of the police? It was due to the recommendation slots that he had the confidence to approach Yebou.

Naturally, those with extraordinary talents turn out to be arrogant. Before you could convince them to do something for you, you would have to offer them something enticing.

If not for the recommendation slots, he wouldn't have dared to bring out such an offer since he wouldn't have gotten anything that could entice him.

"Recommendation slots? Yebou was shocked. How could a mere Sergeant get his hands on a recommendation slot." He thought.

As a former SP, he knew very well how recommendation slots could be obtained for their use. Aside from enabling recruits to bypass the enlisting criteria, officers despite their ranks could use them for their promotion.

In addition, to get a recommendation slot, one would have to get a national merit, thus, stop a national threat or solve a national crisis.

Hence, he couldn't fathom how a Sergeant, a subordinate officer could possess one. Solving a national crisis or stopping a national threat wasn't something a Sergeant could do given the resources at their disposal.

"It seems he has a strong backing," Yebou thought as he scrutinized the Sergeant before him.

"Should I accept or refuse? Yebou thought as he pondered over the decision he should take.

Joining the police would be a nice idea since he would earn a stable income which would enable him to have his sister admitted into a school.

However, he would still have one problem to solve. Thus, Joe, he couldn't possibly leave him on his own or also have him enlisted into the police force.

Hence, the best decision is to decline the offer. That is the best way to go if he wanted to have them close by his side where he could monitor them.

Five minutes later, after thinking carefully over his decisions, Yebou finally replied, "Sergeant Quaye, thank you very much for the offer but I refuse!"
